Former NFL player Kevin Ware arrested for theft, escape

Former Redskins and 49ers tight end Kevin Ware was arrested Sunday and charged with theft and with escaping police.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Ware was initially apprehended by police after he was accused of assaulting a valet at a Houston bar, and that after he was put in a patrol car, he forced his way out and ran down the street while still handcuffed. Ware’s mug shot shows that his face was bloodied and bruised when he was taken into custody.

Although Ware wasn’t charged with assault because the valet refused to press charges, he was charged with escape and also charged with theft in a separate case when he ran out of a bar without paying his tab.

Ware, who played for the 49ers in 2003 and the Redskins in 2004, is being held at the Harris County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

  1. Oh wow – a player who was arrested that at one point did NOT belong to the Packers.
Its no matter – the Packers still have the lead in criminal activity.

Dude looks like he ate a large slice of pavement.

    Either pavement or cop fist.
Either way, this story is awesome. I’m picturing a 6’3″ 255lb (presumably) drunk guy running down the street with his hands cuffed behind his back, thinking he’s gonna get away. Hilarious!

  3. Posting bail is a lot less painful. Cops seem to take it personal when you run.

  4. Contra, what is your favorite team?
I’m sure a lot of posters could find a list of players who have been ‘naughty’ from that team.
Packers, Vikings, hell, whatever team you name will have dirtbags.
Only kids like yourself will keep up the high school attitude on these boards. People like myself will just have to wait for school to come back into session.
Unless, of course, you are a high school dropout, meaning I’ll have to pay for your groceries via taxes-turned-into-foodstamps.
Sometimes the painfull truth has to be said. Anyone else have something to add.

Umm, well obviously, he didn’t escape. So how is that charge even possible.

Read it again. The escape charge is related to a previous incident where he ran out on a bar tab.

  6. @ Realitypolice
Maybe u shuld read it again, because it cleary say, and also charged with theft due to skipping out on a bar tab in a seperate case. Not escaping a bar, thats not illegal last time i looked, and not called escaping, its called leaving. Kinda funny someone with the name realitypolice missed all that.
