Flozell Adams visits the Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers are meeting with free agent tackle Flozell Adams today, moving quickly after losing Willie Colon to a torn Achilles tendon.

Adams was at the Steelers’ practice facility today for a workout and a physical and could be the player the Steelers sign to replace Colon.

The 35-year-old Adams is a five-time Pro Bowler who started all 16 games for the Cowboys last season, but Dallas decided to release him in April rather than pay him a $2.5 million roster bonus and the $5 million salary he was scheduled to make.

Colon started all 16 games for the Steelers in 2009 but will miss all of 2010.

Jets will still rock the Steelers on Dec. 19th.

What do you have the Meadowlands swamp fever. There a cure for that you know.

  2. ROFL, it had nothing to do with the money.
Adams was horrible last season, easily the worst O lineman among the starters. He allowed 8 sacks, 7 QB hits and 34 QB pressures along with being the 5th most penalized lineman in the NFL. Mostly because he’s now too slow to handle the speed rushers so he trips them as they go by or holds them. The only thing he can do now is run block, he’s awful in pass pro.

  3. Good move…. He’s a capable starter.
Hopefully this won’t be a “operation shutdown” type signing… any Pirate fans out there catch the reference?
I promising rookie would be ideal, but that’s not going to happen.

  4. What kind of a name is Flozell???? I would disown my parents for that one….
Of course there are many others that I would do the same, here is a few examples…
LeBron, Kobe, Santonio, Hines, Braylon, Gosder, and my personal favorite D’Brickashaw, I mean come on, could you imagine the torture in grade school…

Flo will be missed in Dallas
Just not by Cowboys fans! The human drive killer is welcome to join the Steelers.

That’s OK. Colon is the world leader in false start and holding calls.
Adams would be a nice 1 season pickup, and let’s face it, the steelers have no depth at line.
I would be shocked if he got any more than 1 year at 35 yrs old.

  7. Flo will do whatever it takes to protect the QB, except maybe with Roethlisberger he want get as many penalties.

  8. He’s a perfect fit in Pittsburgh. He always gets beat so he holds everyone, yet he’s going to a team who’s games are rigged to the point where they will NEVER call holds in big moments. If you want proof, just watch Jonny Jolly of the Packers get held by TWO different players (on a 3 man rush) on the Steelers “game winning* TD” or watch Antwan Barnes get held, then pushed squarely in the back when he’s about to sack the rapist, only for the RAVENS to get called for a penalty on the biggest play of the game.

  9. He’s definitely a beast, but the Squealers will be disappointed with all the penalties and dumbdumb decisions he makes.

  10. It’s the perfect match…….The man who draws the most yellow flags signs on with a team who’s fans wave yellow towels in support…Hollywood couldn’t write a better script.

  11. it would be crazy to expect flozell to block suggs and kindle. i think most of the steelers protections would only require him to block one. also after suggs down year and kindle being an untested rookie i would like tony hills, trai essex, or any other person the steelers plug in for willie. also the holding and false starts won’t really change anything colon was good for one a game anyway. finally to the person complaining about holding it happens every game, no doubt it happened in the instance you are talking about and it is going to continue to happen, similar to the way that james harrison is held a lot in every game. part of the game get over it

Sorry to tell you but the Paper champ jets will be out fo the playoff picture by then! Enjoy an 8 win season…

James Harrison is held every single play.
Get of your couch and experience life a little and stop whining about a holding non-call from a season ago. Sad.

  14. STLsteel: “Adams would play Left Tackle and Starks would move back to Right Tackle.”
No he wouldn’t. Starks plays best at LT. Fozell is deaf in his right ear. Dallas has apparently been really stupid keeping him on the left. The deafness must have contributed a lot to his penalties. The fit would be pretty good to put him at RT.

  15. @jb1996 … An old tackle for an old tackle? Who’s the other old tackle? Colon is 27.
@ccoolahan14 … Gee, that’s a lot of whining. Almost mistook you for a Vikes fan. Need to borrow a Terrible Towel to dry the tears?
Flozell was a great tackle in his prime, but if he needs to pull the kind of moves he used on Justin Tuck last season to get the job done, no thanks. That trip was blatant enough to be an SNL sketch.

  16. Anything’s better than what they’ve got going on. Colon was the king of the holding call anyway.

  17. Replacing one piece a crap with an even bigger piece of crap – literally & figuratively

  18. @ccoolahan14
STFU U useless piece of garbage. A whining Packers fan; now I have seen it all.

Sounds like excuses to me. Pittsburg got raped with bad calls in the divisional round against the Colts in 2005 ….. anyone remember Polamolu’s INT against Manning that got reversed? …… yet they overcame and won the game and Superbowl. Get over that bullsh*t, you sound like a whiner

  20. Good move, they gotta get a tackle. They were lucky nobody signed him yet, Buffalo needs a tackle or two real bad.

  21. @funi, Ray, kingpin
with my luck -all bad after all I root for the lousy Jets for past 31 years, they probably will go 8-8…
can’t I get just one decent season out of these bums?
    Just one???????

  23. LT – no; RT – yes. He could still run block but he had a big problem with the pass. It would be a decent pick up since he probably would trip less people from the right side.

Hey genius, you think there might be a reason that nobody signed him yet?

  25. @GreenAsGrass …
Aw, now … the Jets were good to you last year! And if nothing else, your coach is hysterically funny and I thoroughly enjoy watching Sanchez’s postgame press conferences. Though that’s probably a girl thing 😉

  26. I’m not crazy about the idea of Flozell Adams starting for the Steelers. It may be the Steelers are in the due diligence mode. They brought him in just to kick the tires so to speak. The guy that should be starting at Right Tackle is Ramon Foster. I believe he played RT at Tennessee.
    GO STEELERS!

  27. Flozell at RT for the Steelers would be a huge upgrade in the run game…Colon is so overrated, he is an average RT at best..I don’t understand why the Steelers make a big deal of him…Besides Hartwig, Colon is the weakest link..Ramon Foster is a solid backup for a year, and he will be ready to start..Jonathan Scott? i dunno..
