Video emerges of Lewand arrest

On Saturday, Lions president Tom Lewand was arrested on DUI charges.

On Monday, video of the incident emerged.

9and10news.com has the footage.

The 1:50 clip shows police immediately reacting to the smell of alcohol on Lewand, Lewand repeatedly denying that he had consumed any alcohol, Lewand being patted down, Lewand stumbling through the initial portion of a basic field sobriety test, Lewand debating whether to submit to breath testing, Lewand opting to do so, after authorities explained to him that, if he hasn’t been drinking, the result will be “all zeros,” and Lewand ultimately being handcuffed.

At one point, the police seem to be exasperated by Lewand’s inability to decide on whether to provide a breath sample, giving him the My Cousin Vinny-style admonition that the next words out of his mouth should be “yes” or “no.”

The video doesn’t change the fundamental nature of the prior reports, but the availability of images of the Lions president lying to police and otherwise engaging in conduct that we never expect to see from someone who runs an NFL franchise makes it even more important that the league office apply to Lewand the same standard that would apply to a player who has engaged in identical conduct.
