Hollis Thomas' career could end with suspension

Free agent defensive tackle Hollis Thomas doesn’t want to go out this way, but he may not have a choice.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that Thomas was suspended eight games by the NFL for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances.

The boisterous 36-year-old already faced an uncertain future after spending 2009 primarily with the Carolina Panthers.  It’s hard to imagine him finding his way back into the league now.

Thomas also violated the league’s policy in 2006, thus the long suspension this time around.  He played the first nine of his 13 seasons with the Eagles.

Feel free to share your favorite Hollis Thomas career memories below.

Stay in shape by playing the full season in the UFL and then join a team with a need in the hunt for the playoffs. Injuries happen every year.. if he stayed in shape, he could latch on somewhere.

My favorite Hollis Thomas memory is this post right here.
It is also my only one aside from kinda recognizing the name.

Remember when Hollis caught that interception and his pants fell down and he ran all the way intot he endzone bare-assed naked?
Remember the time when Hollis Thomas showed up at halftime and led the Mud Dogs to win at the Bourbon Bowl?

my favorite is when he speared Mike Vick in the 2004 NFC Championship game that sent the Eagles to the Superbowl

Yep, this is pretty much it. Other than I do remember thinking that it sounded like his name was backwards.

    Really?
    What happened next?

Hollis Thomas was hilarious – in a good way. His laugh, his attitude, his pranking and clowning were a breathe of fresh air.
Interesting how tough the internet crowd always is.
Brock Lesnar? Alistair Overeem? The Last Emperor? Shane Carwin? They’re all pussies compared to the unfailingly “hard ass” internet rabble.
I wish Hollis the best — really enjoyed that cat. His personality had some real pizzazz.

Hollis wouldn’t be earning enough to pay for the performance enhancers any longer in any case.

I will always miss Hollis Thomas’s stomach hanging out of his 9XXL jersey lol

By far my favorite Hollis Thomas moment was when he broke his foot running out of the entrance tunnel before a game.

Actually, Hollis Thomas played at a high level for the Carolina Panthers last year and stabilized the inside of the defensive line. After struggling in the first four games, he helped the Panthers win 8 of their next 12. He was a funny guy who was great with one liners and showed a quick wit in interviews. I’m sorry his career is over….hope the guys the Panthers have this year play as well.

nobody, i mean, nobody could sniff out a screen like hollis thomas. and wasnt his nickname like cheeseburger or something?

He played for the Saints for a little while and was pretty decent. I remember his last suspension and he claimed that it was from a steroid he had been prescribed for his asthma. I gave him the benefit of the doubt then…not so sure now.

Too Bad…Hollis is a great guy that got messed up financially and needed desperately to play last season. He was able to do so at 36 and overweight probably due to the use of steroids.
Bad decision Thomas, but we still love you.
    Be good- Spongebob T

Hard to like an Eagles player, especially ones that had a hand in so many defeats of the Cowboys, but i liked him. He was a pretty funny guy, and whom ever said he could sniff out screens was 100% correct. The guy wasn’t all-pro, but he played ok.
BTW- he’s not the only player to ever get caught taking performance enhancers. After the Williams wall suspensions, you never know how harmless some of these “performance enhancers” are.

Dear NFL Athletes: A playing career and the salary that comes with it is not like Herpes – it doesn’t last forever.
    Bye Hollis.

hollis was one of the best on those “game of the week” shows they did a few years ago when they really let the sideline microphones turned on a lot

The tools who consistently engage in ridicule of professional athletes were typically ‘watchers’ rather than ‘players’ through out their lives.

You are right on there! The man was a genius when it came to disrupting the screen. But if I remember correctly, his nickname was “The Thing”
