Class act on the Chargers part to remember one of the best offensive innovators in NFL history.
Why Don Coryell isn’t already enshrined in Canton is beyond me. I hope it isn’t because he never to a team to the Super Bowl. A coach of his caliber should not be judged by whether or not he got his team to the SB. It is an entire career that is supposed to be the judge. Just ask any former Cardinal or Charger player and/or players who played against “Air” Coryell. To a man they’ll say he should already be in the Hall of Fame.

As background – Viejas Arena is the Aztecs’ basketball arena that sits where Aztec Bowl was (the old football field that Coryell coached at for some of his tenure.)
Coryell would go to SDSU sports even when his health was failing (hell last year he went to the spring game).
SDSU always appreciated him and it was reciprocal and that is why the event is at Viejas – I doubt the chargers had anything to do with it and his kids (at least one of which is an Aztec alum) I’m sure wanted it there.

Coryell made football incredibly fun. I remember more about games he was involved in than I do about most Superbowls. There are very few coaches you can say that about. And he was a good man.

For those who don’t know what a “Celebration of Life” ceremony is – it is usually done instead of or some time after a funeral.
Instead of an event for mourning the loss it is a celebration of having that person in your life for the time that you did.
Virtually all of my friends and family are choosing this route after having been a part of a few.
Usually there is a video or pics of the person throughout their life and people get up and talk about what that person meant to them or tell funny things about them.
It’s a great way to celebrate and honor a person and Don certainly deserves that.
