Manning and Brady aren’t going to get new deals until there’s a new CBA. Teams are going to want to know what the new cap is before they commit to a very large longterm contract. If they guess wrong they could immediately go from championship contender to missing the playoffs or worse due to being in cap hell.
Another thing to consider is that there may be no football in 2011. Owners are not going to be eager to give away a huge signing bonus, and then have no games being played next year.
The players and their agents are looking for contracts based on what could have been expected with last year’s salary cap. The owners know they are going to force that cap to be scaled back. If they give in to what the players want, they’ll overpay and be forced to cut other players under the new cap. If they offer a salary based on what they expect the new cap to be, the players and their agent will feel insulted by what they perceive to be an unreasonable offer.
Bottom line is that it makes more sense for the owners to wait to get these big money deals done, so if McNabb is waiting to see what Brady and Manning get, he’s probably going to be waiting till next year.

McNabb better sign now before the skins really see what he brings to the table.
Kolb will bring to the Eagles what McNabb could not. That is the short game, the slant pass for 5 yards that turns into the 20 or more. Our defense is getting younger and faster. Romo and Manning can’t handle the pressure they can’t throw if they get sacked. Kolb gets us 11 wins

As much as I would love to see the Skins do better, the schedule is brutal this year. Maybe the Skins and Giants can flip flop, but Nukes’ prediction looks pretty accurate to me.

Well said, I have been telling all my friends this for years. These rookies come in and expect to be paid Millions of $$$$, it’s ridiculous. If the NFL wants to succeed in the future they definitely need to regulate how much money goes to Rookies!( who have even stepped foot on the field) let only got hit by Ray Lewis at 100mph!

Right now this is a game of chicken. Who blinks first will determine the next few years af the NFL.
The Players Asso. needs to be realistic with their demands. The economy is well, in shambles. Brady and Manning will deserve max contracts.
Tom being a union rep. hopefully doesn’t effect his perception of reality! That being said, Brady deserves the biggest contract. He has the rings and records. He’s been very loyal to the Krafts and the Patriots taking less in the past for the teams sake. It’s his turn to get paid and should get a 5, 6 year deal.100-120 mil. Retire as a Patriot, a best case scenerio.
Manning is in that elite catagory, but more for individual accolades 4 MVP’s, total yds and 1 SB..
Polian will keep him and try to continue to turnover the roster with draft picks. However, you know what you’re going to get with both players. Smart, accurate and overall winners.
Donovan is not worth Brady, Manning contracts. He’s been close but, not able to close the deal. He’s had several chances and yet to prove he can close it out!
The first thing the Players Asso. needs to realize is you can’t give Rookies outragious amounts of money, that have never taken an snap in the NFL. Any business would go under paying employees like that! It’s assinine. You’re paying for potentail that 50% of the time that is never realized. Pay the veterans first. Set a fair Rookie scale. 1st round 4 year deals at 3 mil. a year. 2nd round 2 mil. annually etc… Keep the middle class strong. Was Jamarcuss worth 40 mil..ouch! The NFL is a business and depending on the union could be strong or go under? As a fan I hope that can reach a win, win for both sides! Why are guys that have 4 years left on their contract want to renogotiate? Pay your dues. Rookies holding out after 1 year of their contract? WTF?

McNabb’s contract could not be restructured until July at the earliest anyway, because he restructured it in June last year with the Eagles. The CBA states there needs to be a full 12 months between contract restructures/changes.

As much as we disparage the Danny, it can never be said that he is cheap when it comes to paying players. There is also the need to have a sense of where the CBA is going to go. You don’t want to structure a contract that hamstrings you a few years down the road. If ANYBODY knows that pain it is the Redskins. This could be yet another sign of the new leaf turning over.

I think McNabb is holding off and might not really want an extension. He loves Arizona and he might be waiting to see Matty Leinart fall short.
McNabb could step into a much better situation in the state where he holds all of his off season training.

I can understand this. If you think you can get 65 or 70% of a Brady/Manning type deal, I think you wait it out if you think those deals could be in the 19-20mil/year range. I think the dollars per year is probably decently established (both are likely to be between 17 and 20 mil per year), but the guaranteed dollars are probably what he’s really waiting for. Is it 30% guaranteed? 50%? 70%?

Though a very good QB he is not at the same level as Manning, Brady, or Brees.
