The difference here is that Favre himself was disclosing the injury info while in the Brady case, it was someone NOT affiliated with the team. If one of Favre’s buddies had disclosed it, then the Jets could have denied it, and they would not have been punished. But because Favre can’t keep his yap shut, the Jets got punished.
As far as the idiots saying the Pats won’t be penalized because the league coddles them, aren’t you the same idiots who rebutt Pats’ fans who “defend” Spygate by asking why Goodell fined them the most in NFL history–which is inaccurate–and why he took away a 1st round pick? The argument being that because the Pats were so severely penalized is the rationale for claiming that they “cheated”, thereby saying their titles are tainted. Bunch of hypocrites!
Stop with the tuck rule too. IT’S A RULE IN THE RULE BOOK. Walt Coleman is on record as saying that as soon as he saw the replay, he knew right away he had to enforce the tuck rule. It may be an obscure rule to most fans, but it’s still a rule. It had nothing to do with coddling the Pats. Woodson should have got to Brady faster!

Umm, looks like the Pats complied to me. They listed his finger and ribs as injured, which they were. Much different from not reporting an injury at all, which is what the Jets did.
Oh, and being a lawyer you should know this part: BB did NOT deny the injury. What he did was insult a reporter. NOT the same thing. He aksed how often is that reporter correct. He did NOT say that he was incorrect on this occasion. Finally, we do not know the status of the injury. All we have is a person who works with Brady saying his ribs were broken. Is this guy a doctor? Did he look at the X-rays and MRIs? Or did he ask Brady, and Brady said they were broken, or busted up, or cracked? We simply do not know. This isn’t a doctor reporting on a player’s condition.

I’m going to continue saying this until people get it.
Every time someone brings up filming as cheating.
I figure if some forum haunts can spit venom constantly, why not spout truthiness.
This will be fruitless but, here it goes.
In a 2006 playoff game, Patriots’ security prevented a Jets camera crew from filming. The crew was there in addition to the cameramen already recording game film from end zone and sideline angles. New England security didn’t confiscate the footage and turn it over to the NFL.(last time that happens!)
At a press conference, Mangini said the extra camera was there because he wanted game footage from both end zones.(Cheater!!)
The next meeting (2007), Mangini sells out the Pats.
Cheaters of the Past:
Tom Landry—a Giants assistant —tuned into the Browns’ radio frequency, allowing him to call the right defensive plays. Loss of a first round draft pick? 500k fine? Nope, they banned QB Radio helmets. Tom Landry CHEATS? No, this became a ‘Ha Ha put one up on the Browns’ stories.
Jimmy Johnson said teams could tape signals from the press box, but sometimes the press box was on the wrong side of the field. In that case, the cameraman filmed from the sidelines.
No worries it is the Cowboys, so It’s cool. Tx football is far better place for a Dynasty than those grumpy New Englanders..what do they know about football up there?
The Infamous memo misquotes the rules “Videotaping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent’s offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines, in the coaches’ booth, in the locker room, or at any other locations accessible to club staff members during the game.”
There is actually nothing in the rule book against stealing signals. Why? Because every staff has done it since the dawn of time. It is part of the game. Halas was known for subterfuge that bordered on criminal–or so the stories go.
The rule states this:”No video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches’ booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game.”
Yep guilty..but then the punishment? If the team does better –supposedly without ‘cheating’ it gets fined more?
If the Pats made the playoffs, they lost a first round pick. If they didn’t, they lost second and third rounders. Interestingly, Goodell based his punishment on how well the team did without the camera. The better they did without it, the worse the punishment got.
So why the issue? Simple really. Parity. It is not pretty but the league prides itself that worst can go to first, that .500 is what half the teams should be. Watch, some other team is going to go on a decade tear, and remember this, when some ‘scandal’ puts a dent in their armor.
OK you may now return to Cheateriots, and Rapelsburger. Cuz, that is very constructive football talk.

Don’t tell me that a double standard doesn’t exist. Just like how everybody thinks it was “cute” that Golden Boy Brady cheated his way to three SB wins.

The article is comparing apples to oranges. Favre was said to be hurt the last 4-5 games of the season and said nothing.
In the 11 games before the injury:
245/347 (70.6%), 20-13 TD/Int ratio, 7.09 yds/comp, 94.1 QB rating Jets Record 8-3
In the 5 games he was injured:
98/175 (56%), 2-9 TD.Int ratio, 5.78 yds/comp, 55.2 QB rating Jets Record 1-4 with the only win against the lowly Bills.
After they realized his injury was affecting his play, they lied 4 more times.
In contrast, Brady in the game in question went 23/26 (89%), 4-0 TD/Int ratio, 10.3 yds/comp, 149 QB rating.
Keep in mind that the record for completion % set by Kurt Warner was 24/26 (92%).
Clearly, Favre’s injury was affecting his play and the team didn’t report it on 5 occasions, Brady’s injury wasn’t affecting his play and but the Pats took the conservative approach and reported that he was injured.
To all the people that just spout off saying the league never punishes the Pats, or the Pats get away with everything, review your history and then realize that this time they followed the rules and are still catching crap for it.

Jets made a false injury report, failing to list a player that was injured.
Patriots made a completely accurate injury report and then was evasive with the media regarding the extent of the injury.

#1 – let’s not forget… Brady was listed as probable to play, and he played.
Where’s the harm in that?
We’re not talking about a situation in which a team didn’t plan on playing a star player but wanted everyone to think he was playing
Now let’s look at what the NFL would LIKE to have happen if all teams fully disclosed injury information
#1 – The NFL would put Brady at risk – inviting defenders to target his ribs, putting his very life at risk
#2 – The NFL is seeking to assist the Mafia in their point spreads
#3 – The NFL wants teams to divulge information important to game strategy… what’s next? The NFL requiring that teams divulge what plays they will call and when in the interest of “fairness”?
There’s a scandal here alright – the scandal of the NFL in bed with the Mafia and putting players at risk in the process.

Hell yeah, if I’m an NFL player I want my opponent to know exactly what is hurt so they can try to F it up some more and put me out for the season. Maybe the league should force me to post my CT scan on Facebook so the opponent can practice the best tactics to mess me up.

I guess I don’t understand what the issue here is. The league requires teams to disclose that a player is injured. The Patriots did that. They require teams to indicate the body part that is hurt. The Patriots did that (all 3 of them). They require the teams to indicate the liklihood that a player will play (doubtful – 25%, questionable – 50%, probable – 75%). The Patriots did that. I don’t get it. What’s the issue?

I think it is all BS that they report anything.
Without knowing, I am guessing they report, so everyone who gambles has the same info to gamble with….and not just insiders.
Well, do you think BRADY wants everyone to know he has broken ribs? If they do, the poor guys ribs are going to be targeted during the course of the game. The reason for this disclosure rule just stinks of too many damn many attorneys! The same thing that is screwing up our country. Too many attorneys influencing law for the sake of making money…
I used to train race horses. I never had to report to anyone if one of my horses was training a little sore(er) . If the football teams are required to report this kind of stuff why doesn’t everyone in all sports? Especially in a sport like football, I think it is an idiotic rule……and Floria is making way to much out of nothing.
