Saints to parade trophy around Gulf Coast

The extended victory lap for the New Orleans Saints isn’t over yet.

For the month of July, the organization has invited the rest of the Gulf South region to join the party.  They are calling it “The Championship Tour” and they’ve even found a noble sponsor — the U.S. Marine Corp. and The National Guard.  (Tour dates and locations can be found here.)

The traveling exhibition will include the Lombardi Trophy and many other items of memorabilia from the team’s victory over the Colts.  It’s free to attend.

It’s also a smart move by the Saints to consolidate their considerable support throughout the South at a time when the team’s popularity is peaking.  The bandwagon has plenty of room for more fans.

They need the officials to help them carry the trophy around too. Just like they helped them make the Super Bowl.

whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Viking fans whaaaaaaaaaa..give it up..fumble the ball 5 times, 12 men on the field and a lamebrain interception blew it not the refs..grow up and get over it already.

  4. geaux says: Jul 3, 2010 8:23 PM

Mrsteve, you sir are a moron.
Did the officials turn the ball over five times? Did they put 12 men in the huddle at a crucial time? Did they throw an ill-advised pass across the field? Did they fumble at the three?
Did the officials force the Saints to turn the ball over just once, on special teams?
Gee, it’s amazing how the Saints were penalized by 56 more yards than the Vikings in that game, and called for four more penalties.
And it’s amazing how the Saints were 100% in converting scores in the red zone, versus 66% for the Vikings.
The win was legitimate, as was the Super Bowl victory.
    WHO DAT?

  5. MACK DADDY says: Jul 3, 2010 8:24 PM

Come on Rosenthal, do you post this stuff just to hear Viking fans cry?

  6. joe hvw says: Jul 3, 2010 8:29 PM

Ignore the environmental devastation, Sean Payton is coming to steal your pills and drink your booze while distracting you with the trophy. Then he’ll sleep in the next day with that stupid smirk on his face. People called for Andy Reid to step down or be fired when his SONS got in trouble with rx drugs, but no one seems to care when Payton does it.

  7. GeauxSaints53 says: Jul 3, 2010 8:29 PM

A Saints article wouldn’t be complete without the generic Florio stab at the organization. Screw you Florio.

  8. Kay Bee says: Jul 3, 2010 8:31 PM

I wonder why the Vikings have never done something like this.
    Oh yeah, that’s right…

  9. Mrsteve says: Jul 3, 2010 8:54 PM

Offensive holding repeatedly not enforced. Defensive holding not called. Hitting Farve low on an INT (the Brady rule) not called. Fumble in OT & stopped short not called. 1st down given on dropped pass. Phantom PI.
Who Dat. AP Dat dropping the ball on the 4 & Longwell pooch kickoffs.
    Pathetic officiating.

theyre probrably gonna celabrate this superbowl win up until about halfway through 2013 season. then theyll say ok lets go to practice.

  11. mikemcsaint says: Jul 3, 2010 9:22 PM

joe hvw is the typical Saints hating idiot. Ass wipe, someone ACCUSED Sean Payton of taking vicodin. It has not been proven. But keep hating and Sean Payton will keep carrying the trophy of the WORLD CHAMPIONS!!

  12. mikemcsaint says: Jul 3, 2010 9:35 PM

Is it Mr Steve or Mrs Teve? Read the stats. The Saints were penalized more than the Vikings.

  13. joelvis72 says: Jul 3, 2010 9:41 PM

“extended victory lap,” “bandwagon,” all code words from someone who probably licks the steelers’ arses, or those of a team which gets waaay more “pub” but has yet to win a Super Bowl (Vikings, Eagles, Browns, Bengals, Bills, Falcons, etc)

  14. Bob Nelson says: Jul 3, 2010 9:47 PM

How can anyone not appreciate the Saints winning a World Championship the old fashioned way; they earned it.
It is their first one and they now have 2 trophies that the jealous vikings losers never will; the George Halas Trophy and the Vince Lombardi Trophy. They are named for the 2 greatest coaches in NFL history.
Weirdo jealous vikling losers only try to pollute all that is great about the NFL. No matter how pathetic they act they can never change history.
The New Orleans Saints are the World Champions and the viklings never have been or ever will be World Champions.
No photograph exists of a vikling team holding a trophy; they zero.

  15. mikemcsaint says: Jul 3, 2010 11:29 PM

Hey Mrs teve, I’m a season ticket holder for the Saints for 22 years. What team do you root for? The Saints are in the 2nd smallest market in the NFL and have sold out every game since 06 without corporate handouts like the Vikings. Their pathetic fans won’t fill their stadium unless the tickets are given away. Once they move to LA maybe they won’t have that problem.

  16. Fire Ted says: Jul 3, 2010 11:30 PM

Mr Steve, what about theh home playoff game a couple years back where 3M had to step in and buy tickets to avoid a blackout…for a PLAYOFF game. Fair weather? Look at the team that can’t get their fans to support a new stadium.

  17. dieharddolfan6493 says: Jul 3, 2010 11:31 PM

@bob nelson no one is hating on the saints winning the championships. No one likes how spend all this time celebrating when they should worry about defending their title youd be suprised how fast everyone would forget about this hard earned championship. And who cares about vikings. But while brees peyton and bush are out dancing around the gulf recruiting bandwagon fans the viks are suited up and getting ready to go to work in two months. if u have a bipolar division like the nfc south defending a championship is gonna take some work

Now that the place is covered in tar, the fitting thing to do is wait for a real hot day, fill some cargo planes with feathers, and release them from 50 feet above ground level. A salute to New Orleans from the rest of the country.

  19. c.carterhof says: Jul 4, 2010 1:11 AM

    Dieharddolfan-
Bob Nelson is a Packer retard. And he cares deeply about the Vikings. He doesnt care for the Saints, but since the Vikes lost to them…well, that is all it took for Bobby. Anything to take a shot at us.

  20. c.carterhof says: Jul 4, 2010 1:17 AM

I agree about the celebrating. But hey, I hope they keep it up. One last time, congrats on the championship N.O.
But Sept. 9th approaches, and I cant wait.

  21. CaptainMarvel says: Jul 4, 2010 2:06 AM

So the Vikings turned the ball over. So what. It was still the officials that had 5 straight horrible calls in overtime. Not one bad call. Not 2. Not 3. Not 4. Five. Not to mention the lack of calls on the late hits on Favre.

You’re a complete IDIOT if you think the Saints aren’t preparing to defend their title. How can you assume that they’re not? Funny how you criticize Brees, but as a Dolphins “fan” don’t you wish your dumb organization would’ve signed him instead of Culpepper?

i have been coming to this site for years and have never been interested in registering and commenting on the articles. however i just did because i have had more then enough of the vikings fans jumping in everything that has to do with the saints. if you hate the saints so much then stay out. do we go post on vikings articles? we were upset after the bears game in 06 but we got over it.(although i did see a bears fan posting on a saints article last week that kinda rekindled that fire). you crybabies all need to do the same and get over it. will you stop the crying if the saints win the season opener? seriously though. now we got away with holding on both sides the ball? i haven’t heard that one before. c’mon man. i bought the dvd and have watched the game numerous times. the only play i maybe would question is mccray’s low hit. other than that, there wasn’t cheating. yea favre got beat up but if they were dirty we would have had alot more penalties. you know the refs are going to protect the old man. as far as the saints celebrating too much and not focusing on the upcoming season, i’m sure its front office decisions and the ones that count are doing what needs to be done to defend the title. waaa!!! waaa!!! waaa!!! ENOUGH ALREADY!!!

Viking fans will not have to worry about any of this next year when their team moves to LA. You have one year to get a trophy. Good luck. Do not be mad at the Saints, NFL or the Saints fans they did not loss the game your team and your over the hill QB did.

officials miss calls in every sport. yeah it really sucks but we all know this. you have to hope your team can overcome them and not make mental mistakes of your own but the vikings failed to do so. hope brett favre does come back so you guys can just win in the regular season and watch favre chuck up another INT in the 4th quarter or overtime of a big playoff game. i understand the guy is a warrior and all but the man just cant get it done in the big moment. just take a look at his stats in all his playoff losses since 2000. vikings fans are not gonna stop the whining for a long time. they have no chance with brett favre and they sure as hell dont have a chance without him this year

It is not surprising that their right wing Obama-hating owner Tom Benson would parade the trophy around right now like there isn’t a oil spill in the Gulf that is hurting an unprecedented number of women and minorities, who are losing their jobs at a rate triple that of white males. Of course, since Benson is a hard core Republican, he doesn’t care about poor people and I would not be surprised if he planned this tour in an attempt to either distract people from what his buddies at the oil companies did to our Gulf or to make sure everyone sees the oil spill and blames it on Obama personally, because after all both Obama and oil are black, as Fox News keeps reminding people.

  35. cheeseweasel says: Jul 4, 2010 1:46 PM

Saints wont even make the playoffs this year. fat and happy and still hung over.Like Tampa they will reclaim their throne as one of the worst franchises in the NFL, thanks to their owner.

I will be there to see it this week in Shreveport. I am not a bandwagon fan. I have watched and rooted for them since I was a kid in the 70′s. It will be nice to see. For the still whining Viking fans they will also have the George Halas trophy. I will snap some pics and send them to you if you want.

Yea, it’s George Bush’s, Tom Benson’s, & Fox News fault, lol. If you know anything about the state of Louisiana then you know it has been ran by the democrats for the last 100 years, not counting the current governor. If they care as much about the poor & minority population as they lead you to believe then after this long the state should be a garden of Eden. I wonder why it is not?

As for you idiot, the Saints players and coaches themselves will not be on this tour. It is strictly for the fans to get a look at the trophys and other items from the SB victory and is free to the public. You would know that if you took the time to read the article before you posted. But I see that you are a Dolphins fan so I can assume that you are still bitter also.

    the new Vikqueen fight song
know all there is to know about the crying game
I’ve had my share of the crying game
First there are kisses, then there are sighs
And then before you know where you are, you’re saying goodbye
One day soon, I’m gonna tell the moon about the crying game
And if he knows, maybe he’ll explain
Why there are heartaches, why there are tears?
And what to do to stop feeling blue, when love disappears?
First there are kisses, then there are sighs
And then before you know where you are, you’re saying goodbye
Don’t want no more of the crying game
Don’t want no more of the crying game

Well that’s what you get for commenting on a post that had nothing to do with your team, especially since you have no room to talk.
