New article only confirms Revis' value to the Jets

Things have been quiet of late regarding the efforts of Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis to get a new contract.  With Shaun Assael of ESPN The Magazine doing the talking, Revis doesn’t need to say much at all.

An article in the July 12 edition of the publication makes clear (as if it already wasn’t) the value of Revis to the defense.  Assael characterizes the fourth-year pro as the “most critical defender on the field” in Rex Ryan’s system.

And then there’s this quote from Ryan, which demonstrates the importance of Revis to the franchise:  “Most teams use their best corner on the second-best receiver and
double-team the No. 1.  But with Darrelle we can man-to-man
their best.  It makes you feel like you’re playing with 12 guys.”

But take heart, Jets fans.  Revis once again explains that he doesn’t want a $100 million contract.  Instead, he wants only “50 cents more” than Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha.

So Revis wants only 45.3 million (and 50 cents).  Over three years.

Evidently Fixing a hip socket is easier and cheaper than fixing a hip pocket.
    Signed-Brandon Marshall

Too bad the Jets can’t afford anyone because they are fricken idiots.

Asomugha already offered to give Revis the 50 cents. Don’t know what the Jets are waiting for.

The jests are a joke, and well on their way to a 7-9 season.

Back when you could only guess as to what players really made, Bill Russell demanded to be paid $1 more than what Wilt was supposed to be getting and the Celtics eventually gave it to him. Years later when Wilt wrote his autobiography, he let it be known that he was actually making more than what Russell thought he was making and he actually was still the highest paid.

    Asoumugha > Revis

    What’s a Darrelle ???? Is that like a Shawntay or a Dontrell?

  8. OJ SIMPSON says: Jul 5, 2010 7:03 PM

Ummm since when does 2 good years of football mean you deserve almost 50 million?

  9. The Bee's Knees says: Jul 5, 2010 7:28 PM

Revis may be slightly better but Revis doesn’t realize Nnamdi gets that contract because that was the only thing keeping him with the Raiders. Nnamdi also has done well without the support cast Revis has

  10. NYJALLFINGDAY says: Jul 5, 2010 7:54 PM

I’ll resume caring when training camp starts and he’s still not signed.
Revis and Aso have two different styles of play. They’re both great cornerbacks. Revis doesn’t deserve 45.3M because Aso doesn’t either.

  11. snnyjcbs says: Jul 5, 2010 9:32 PM

With every penny guarenteed. Next year Nnamdi will be pullung just under 17 million per year. The Jets have a history of telling players that they are going to do this and that and in the end give them the shaft and they move on.
When you look at the number of times NFL QB’s threw the ball at Revis last year the NFL QB’s do not seem to shy away from him much. You would have to add all the ball throwed at Nnamdi during 2007, 2008 and 2009 to reach the number of times NFL QB’s threw at this kid in 2009 alone.
He is a good corner but the best?, no way. Nnamdi is a tackling machine and is good against the run. Many of the passes that are completed on Nnamdi and there are not many are for a loss or a couple yards.
They use to talk up Hall, when they put him across from Nnamdi and he had to play true man to man the QB’s lite him up like a Christmas Tree and made him look foolish. Revis may be good but is no Nnamdi and the Jets will never pay him the standard set in salary for a top man to man corner by Al Daivis.

6-10 but Revis will lead the league in picks and make the probowl…..about the only thing loser jet fans will have to live by when the season is over….wake up a-holes!

  15. SomeFans says: Jul 5, 2010 10:40 PM

Jets will lose the AFC East- like every year.

  16. smithopher says: Jul 5, 2010 11:41 PM

Does anybody understand why Darrelle is so good? He gets thrown on way more than anybody and averages 3.5 yards per attempt, the guy is an animal. He plays single coverage on guys like Ocho Cinco, Randy Moss, Andre Johnson, etc… The QB is going to be baited into throwing at his best WR, but the truth of the matter is that most of those passes are defended by Revis. Asomugha doesn’t do the things Revis does. He doesn’t play in the same scheme. When he’s actually on man coverage he’s not playing on the #1 WR on the field, and when he does he’s got safety help over top. Revis is a monster, I dare anybody who actually knows football to really watch him play and say he isn’t a superior player. People can say whatever they want, the Jets are gonna be good this year. At least when the Jets open their mouths they back it up with an AFC Championship appearance. Where was your team that weekend?

    @ Marino13
This coming from another sad and depressed dolphin fan who cant seem to face the reality that his team sucks and will never get anywhere with the personnel they have now. Your just a bunch of self loathing idiots who cant seem to get over the marino glory nsyears 20 years ago. And you know whats even more pathetic is that they still didnt win a superbowl with marino. Its actually pretty comical to have these dolphin fans come in here and start hating on the jets. The dolphins had 1 playoff appearance in the past decade.
Say what you say about the jets getting lucky about making the playoffs but no team gets lucky and makes the afc championship. Never happened and never will. They were that good. Thats something the dolphin fans could never say about their sad pathetic team

smithopher ok i feel you right, revis is good, really good! but i watched those games where he supposedly shut down the three wrs you named in your comment.. if you looked close enough the jets blitzed hard and the the safety shifted over the top of revis and the man he was covering. so please saying he shut them down. the safety was always on top to help. that being said he is one of the three best ASomugha Bailey are the other two.

BKjetsfan101 – wow u make it seem like they jets have had success like the pats have had for years and years. U had one decent season and all you morons feel like you are gonna be the best thing ever and that the jets are gonna win it all this year. All I can say is remeber when Mangini came in and had some success after the first season…..all you a-holes could think about was how many SB victorys you were gonna have. At least I am a realest and dont think they Phins will win anything this year but at least they are young and headed in the rite direction…more then u idiot jet fans have to look forward to.

  21. BKjetsfan101 says: Jul 6, 2010 9:46 AM

    marino13-
More than all us jet fans have to look forward to? The jets only got better. their run game will be just as dominant due to the offensive which is of the best in the game (yes, even without faneca), and their defense only got stronger. They went all the way to the afc championship last year, and this year, with an even better team, we have nothing to look forward to?? all u dolphin fans are the same.
and do me a favor the dolphins are far from heading in the right direction. they have a qb who has yet to prove himself and ricky williams who will be gone as soon as he make enough money to buy as much weed as he could besides the fact that in a year from now he’ll be done anyway

  22. Marino13 says: Jul 6, 2010 10:00 AM

r u really serious about ur running game, I’ll tale Ronnie Brown for half a season and ricky over ur young unproven rookie and LT?!?!? I think everyone on this board would talk Ricky oveer LT anyday of the week – you have no clue what the hell u ae talking about. And I think 99% would take Henne over Sanchez – look at the numbers dumbass. What the has Sanchez proven to anyone except you idiot fans…..oh and JT he was REAL happy to sign on with the jets -that press conference was hysterical to watch, he was crying. I guess having young wide outs adding Marshall, two great RBS, great young corners and great corners, and cameron wake who will be replacing the unwanted JT – oh and adding dansby wasnt a move in the rite direction either – yeah we have nothing to look forward to….wake up asshole

  23. BKjetsfan101 says: Jul 6, 2010 10:15 AM

just the classic below average team the phins have always been

  24. Marino13 says: Jul 6, 2010 11:13 AM
