One more nugget from last year's NFC Championship game

Sean Payton’s new book Home Team, if nothing else, has provided a lot of fodder for the PFT rumor mill during the ssssslow period of the offseason.

Payton talked about a literal Super Bowl hangover, he imitated Bill Belichick, and revealed Reggie Bush wanted no part of New Orleans.  Now comes a story from Bob Glauber of Newsday, who also spoke with Payton about his time in New York.

Payton had the flu for the NFC Championship game against the Vikings.  He approached Favre before the game, gave him a fist bump, and said “I don’t want to give you guys the flu.”

Favre smiled and nodded toward Vikes coach Brad Childress. “Go over there and give it to Chilly.”

Payton adds, “He [Favre] was joking. I think.”

The only downside to leaking all these stories is that I’m no longer sure I need to buy the book.

  8. Ambrose says: Jul 5, 2010 5:08 PM

Expect Favre to feign retiring, then ask for his release, then try to play for New Orleans this year. This would be the path of least resistance to the SuperBowl, one in which he would not so much as even have to meet his teammates before the first snap of the season.

Hey Franchise, you meant the sound inside that stadium would make anyone sick because, unlike Minnesota, it’s all real noise made by the fans. We don’t have to pump fake crowd noise in because our fans are too pathetic to make enough noise.

A stadium where 1 guy jumped to his death from the terrace, no rapes confirmed (though I could be wrong), and where people shit all over the place when they were stuck in the dark for 2 days.
Damn right we’ll cheer in it; we basically rebuilt the MF and said “screw you” to the hurricane. Most of us did, anyway.

Glass houses, stones, etc. Didn’t the Saints have something like 2 playoff wins in franchise history prior to last year? If last year showed us anything, it’s that sometimes if you dream a little harder than normal, a turd can float to the top.

    1) The viklings have won 12 games in a season only twice since they became an indoor team. Twice in almost 30 years, well you can do the math.
    2) Every time the viklings have won 12 games or more in a season, they have never bettered it the next season, and only once did they win 12 again the following year but that was back when Nixon was President.
    3) Since 1977 every time the viklings have lost the Conference game they have not made it back the following season.
You’ve seen the last of the viklings for awhile and their bitter trophyless followers. After the season starts the ignorant vikling trophy envious bozos will disappear.
Payton and the Saints had the illness but were still better the viklings.
Here again Brad Childress gets no respect because he has never earned it. The players walk all over him.

They should’ve demolished the Superdome after Katrina..in fact the whole city should be moved and turned back into the swamp and wetlands it once was.

  42. CaptainMarvel says: Jul 5, 2010 9:50 PM

Everyone knows the only reason the Saints were given the victory was because of Katrina. The refs made sure Favre didn’t get the ball in overtime, because he would have scored for sure. 5 terrible calls to put the Saints in field-goal position. No one can argue this – go back and look at the overtime.

  43. buhbay1c says: Jul 5, 2010 9:52 PM

Kay Bee there’s no denying the Saints are world champions and the first call I made after that game was to my friend in NOLA(where I lived for a year) and told him if anyone was going to beat the Vikes I’m glad it was the Saints. Having said that, you should refrain from ripping on the Vikings, any unbiased NFL fan would agree that the Saints were handed that game. And don’t disrespect our fans, I lived in NO when everybody in the city wanted Tom Benson’s head on a platter after Katrina, so don’t act like your fan base is the greatest around.

Is it any surprise that Favre doesn’t think highly of his coach? Maybe Chilly doesn’t service him that well or Chilly’s beard gave Favre’s nuts a rash, who really knows. The bottom line is that any time a player runs the team instead of the coach, that team is not going to win and to prove my point, the Vikings lost that game.

I hope you Vikings fans still whining about the NFL or refs giving the game to the Saints know how pathetic you sound. If the NFL is fixed then when you win the Big One, will that be the exception? Or should we all assume that the NFL felt sorry for you and Brett Favre and let you win it? I’m sure then it won’t be a conspiracy or bias, and you will have legitimately won it all, right?
I don’t believe the NFL is fixed, but it’s funny to me how people who do make these crazy claims only do so when their teams LOSE. When they win, different story.
