Hines Ward, a rare constant in the Steelers passing game, notices a trend with preseason predictions.
“It seems like every year we won the Super Bowl, nobody gave us a chance
to win the Super Bowl, and when everybody thought we were going to win
it, we didn’t make the playoffs,” Ward told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
The same newspaper called the Steelers a six-win team in a ridiculous column a few days earlier. Ward will use that as motivation, in addition to all the questions about how much longer he wants to play.
“People are so quick to bury us
and put us in an old folks’ home like we can’t play,” Ward said. “I still caught 95
balls [in 2009]. How can you explain that? Next year if I only catch 40
balls then you have a legitimate story to write.”
With Santonio Holmes off the team, the Steelers need Ward to be a high volume receiver once again. We’re not putting him in the old folks home yet.
