Eagles take issue with characterization of Vick "confrontation"

The Eagles’ quest to maintain leverage in possible trade talks for Mike Vick and/or his replacement apparently continues.

Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the Eagles take issue with the comments of Virginia Beach prosecutor Harvey L. Dent Bryant regarding Vick’s involvement in several “confrontations” at his 30th birthday party.  (Maybe one of the other kids tried to open one of Mike’s presents.)

Per McLane, an Eagles source calls Bryant’s description of the incident a “mischaracterization.”  The team, McLane reports, has conducted its own investigation.

So, apparently, the Eagles can do a better job of investigating potential criminal misconduct than a state-level prosecutor in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Actually, based on the skill displayed by a different state-level prosecutor in the Commonwealth of Virginia three years ago, it’s likely that the Eagles can do a better job of investigating potential criminal misconduct.

Have you guys ever considered that they honestly want to keep him, I feel that you guys hate him more than anyone. You have been speaking negative about M. Vick every since he first got accused of Dog Fighting. He did the time for his crime. I read thousands of little jokes while he was in Prison. Seriously guys give it a rest! (Maybe this reply will get posted.)

except they also have a vested interest in vick not being in official trouble.
buster poindexter wouldnt ‘bust’ vick because he and vick are both black.
the eagles wish to not look stupid (fail), and keep vick out of official trouble so they can develop and sustain some trade value for him (also, fail) before some other team gets a qb injured in camp.
it is rapidly approaching the ‘cut your losses’ scenario.
at the end of the day, it’s a business. and idiot employees are bad for business.

  4. Meat Tuperello says: Jul 8, 2010 12:43 PM

Philthy just trying to put perfume on a turd. It’s not going to work.
There is no trade market and it would take 20+ qb’s suffering ACL’s in camp for there to be a small trade market. With that said most teams would turn tot he back up as opposed to signing the POS known as Vick.

dont you think its possibe they are just standing by thier player? and a stand against people throwing words and reports out there without base, because in the end what the media feeds us usually becomes perception even if its not true.

  8. TexasBubba says: Jul 8, 2010 12:50 PM

Come on Eagles just give Mike Vick that 5m so that he can pay most to the IRS and bankruptcy court, and child support. Ron Mexico will find it hard to live on whats left of 750 thousand, he can hardly support his entourage on that.

  9. Jon Evans says: Jul 8, 2010 12:51 PM

Look at Florio spining words again. he never once said Vick was involved in several confrontations. He said there WERE several confrontations between groups and that Vick was involved in one.

It used to drive me crazy how well the Eagles organization was run, now there beginning to look more and more Oakland everyday, this has to be the worst attempt to salvage a player that no one wants, accept your mistakes like the raiders and cut him like they did Russell

Mischaracterization? That’s helpful — now I’m sold that we should keep Vick after all.
Hey here’s a request: if it’s not too much trouble, how about someone from the organization come out and characterize it in the proper light. Anyone care to take an official stance on this anytime soon? Andy? Joe?

As, a life long Philadelphia Eagles fan, far be it from me to question what the boys in the Kremlin, er I mean down on Broad Street, have to say.
But, how can the Eagles be so sure the prosecutor, (who presumably is going off of police statements), is “misrepresenting” but, that Vick the serial liar, is giving the Eagles, the truth???

    Memo to all Eagles fans:
Andy Reid did not want to trade Donovan McNabb!
He fought it tooth and nail.
Jeff Lurie and his mentally challenged protege Howie Roseman MADE Reid trade McNabb.
Now, Lurie and Roseman are doing everything they can to prop up their dog torturing moron, who they felt was a better fit for the team, than the guy who holds just about every passing record in team history!
Jeff Lurie is a moron! I knew this the moment he hired Ray Rhodes and let him bench Randall Cunningham for Rodney Pete!
Jeff Lurie would be the most hated man in Philly were it not for Andy Reid and Donovan McNabb.

Why don’t you just add an extra tab at the top of your page for Legal issues. You can put all of the legalese, tar & feathering, stoning and public lynching opinion pieces there.

It is a shame that this has to be explained over and over and over again.
    NO. HE. DIDN’T.
It is a shame that so many people do not understand what probation is.
He did SOME time for SOME of his crimes. He is STILL serving the remainder of his sentence on probation.
Not to mention that he wasn’t charged with any of the dog killings or any of the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia that he broke while running his gambling operation.

  21. TheDPR says: Jul 8, 2010 1:10 PM

I also wanted to comment on the Eagles “investigation” of this incident.
They didn’t investigate squat. They spoke with Vick and apparently believe every word he told them.

  22. steelerhypocrite says: Jul 8, 2010 1:12 PM

Does it really matter…like the rest of the league doesn’t really know what Mike Vick is? He was a free agent for a while, and nobody else wanted him. Whether they keep him or trade him, it doesn’t matter – other teams aren’t craving for him.

  23. RyanT. says: Jul 8, 2010 1:13 PM

Howie Roseman was so intent on trading McNabb to puff up his own ego.
Andy Reid was against trading McNabb until the very end!
It took his boss Jeff Lurie to insist on it before Reid would budge!
If the Eagles go to crap don’t blame Andy Reid!
It is all Lurie and Roseman’s doing!
I detest them for trading McNabb and then standing by the no talent Michael Vick!
What hae you wrought Lurie….back to the Ray Rhodes days….

  24. LAEaglefan says: Jul 8, 2010 1:13 PM

While the Eagles may honestly think that Vick is their best option at the backup QB position, you can’t help but think that they’re sorry that they ever signed him in the first place, with all of the grief that he’s causing them now. Their goal now is either to shut people up and let him play peacefully or to get rid of him in the most graceful way possible under the circumstances. Any way that you slice it though, the Eagles come out of this looking like fools.

    Coming soon to SPIKE TV:
It’s Jeff and the Fat Man, starring Jeff Lurie and Andy Reid!
There’s nothing odd about this couple when it comes to fighting crime!
They’ll leave no stone unturned or doughnut uneaten to get to the truth, or to undermine a prosecutor to protect the trade value of their unwanted back up QB!
Watch as they don their all-white club outfits to infiltrate the parties in the soft underbelly of Virginia Beach, risking their lives in a tangled web of ex-dogfighters, sexual abusers, and tax cheats.
See them interrogate reluctant witnesses, garnering the truths that escape the so-called “law system majors” and bioneurological intel analysts from Rutgers!
If you’re trying to trade an unmarketable, washed up thug, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire JEFF AND THE FAT MAN.

The thing is, Joe, I think standing by their player is exactly what they’re doing. That doesn’t make it right.
“People” (the state prosecutor) throwing words and reports out there is doing his job, asking for members of the public who can help him prove with a fuller basis what he already may suspect.
Go ahead and blame the media. But last I checked, the prosecutor isn’t on a media payroll.

  29. John El Way says: Jul 8, 2010 1:21 PM

“Doing your time” doesn’t change the fact that Vick is\was a big dummy, and will continue being a big dummy. A smart man would know that once out of jail, there would be a bigger spotlight on him. Before jail, he could get away with stupid decisions because no one cared, not because he was smart enough to avoid getting caught. You can’t teach dumb, it’s a gift.

As an expert in the “Law System” as you call it, don’t you wonder why federal racketeering charges weren’t filed. And don’t you think less than two years served was light for operating a crime ring?
