Chris Zorich still can’t account for his charity’s money

Former Bears defensive lineman Chris Zorich says he still isn’t sure what happened to $864,645 that his charitable foundation raised, weeks after he vowed to find out when scrutinized by the IRS, the Illinois Attorney General and the Chicago media.

I haven’t found the statement yet. When I do, I’ll let you know,” Zorich wrote in an e-mail to the Chicago Tribune.

During his playing career, Zorich was well known for raising money and giving his time to causes related to helping poor families and disadvantaged children. Zorich says his Chris Zorich Foundation shut down operations in 2008, although it only stopped soliciting donations on its web site in the last couple of weeks.

“I’m in the process of hiring an accounting firm to help me sort through all of the information,” Zorich said. “The attorney general’s office has contacted me. Other than that, that’s all the progress that has been made.”
