Chris Zorich still can't account for his charity's money

Former Bears defensive lineman Chris Zorich says he still isn’t sure what happened to $864,645 that his charitable foundation raised, weeks after he vowed to find out when scrutinized by the IRS, the Illinois Attorney General and the Chicago media.

I haven’t found the statement yet. When I do, I’ll let you know,” Zorich wrote in an e-mail to the Chicago Tribune.

During his playing career, Zorich was well known for raising money and giving his time to causes related to helping poor families and disadvantaged children. Zorich says his Chris Zorich Foundation shut down operations in 2008, although it only stopped soliciting donations on its web site in the last couple of weeks.

“I’m in the process of hiring an accounting firm to help me sort through all of the information,” Zorich said. “The attorney general’s office has contacted me. Other than that, that’s all the progress that has been made.”

For those of you who have lost faith in the Chris Zorich Foundation, luckily the Robert Ethen Foundation is able at this time to step up to offer an alternative site to send your donations.

“I’m in the process of hiring an accounting firm to help me sort through all of the information,” Zorich said from a luxurious veranda overlooking his private beach in Monaco. “You all are trespassing,” he added.

Wow… didn’t take long for some fool to try and play the race card here. Gee.. Mike Vick had his day in court and was found guilty of his crime. Chris Zorich hasn’t even been indicted on any crimes… sure it looks pretty bad, but nothing has been proven and he gets the benefit of the doubt for the moment for 2 reasons… #1 He’s done alot of good in the community in the past and has typically shown good moral character, #2 closely related to #1… he isn’t a convicted felon who repeatedly makes bad choices. If he’s guilty.. he is going to jail… hell they sent Martha Stweart to jail. It’s not a race thing.. it’s a character thing. Also..PFT DID report the story… not bury it.

  20. AlanSaysYo says: Jul 9, 2010 4:20 PM

How is PFT not having a field day with the fact that the foundation shuttered in 2008 and its website was accepting donations as of June 2010?

  21. Jungle Juice says: Jul 9, 2010 4:31 PM

Why would you need a statement? If you don’t have records, i.e. canceled checks, bank statements, check register etc. you can get it all from your bank in a couple of days.
Plus, with that much money rolling through there – wouldn’t you have it all in an accounting software program or spreadsheet on your PC?

  22. RED GRANGE says: Jul 9, 2010 4:31 PM

It’s his white side that stole the money. He couldn’t suppress that side and the need to steal. Just like Bush and all the other BLANCO DEVILS!

I have volunteered for the Chris Zorich Foundation, after working at a facility that Mr Zorich would visit and spend time with the kids (Wards of the State – 5 y.o to 18 y.o.) and He is a man of good morals and a caring soul. People should not be so quick to judge, nor so ready to slander and tear each other down!

When he says he can’t find the statement, he meant “I can’t find where I buried the incriminating evidence, as in the falsified statements I had made”. And when he says he has hired an accounting firm he means “I quickly phoned my cousin Arnold, who incidentally once took an accounting course and was acting as the foundation’s accountant, to leave the country because the feds were on to us”.
And when posters here say “but he did a lot of good things” they mean, “I’m so friggin’ retarded I can’t put two and two together and come up with fraudster because no legitimate charity has this problem”. Bernie Madoff did a lot of good things too. Did that make him innocent?
