Report: Darrelle Revis prepared to hold out past August 10

D. Revis5.jpgWith time waning before training camp and no progress apparent in negotiations, Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis’ camp is ratcheting up the rhetoric.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News writes that Revis is “fully prepared” to hold out of training camp and isn’t worried about the 30-day rule that could put Revis at risk of losing an accrued season towards free agency.  Translation: Revis says he’s ready to hold out past August 10 if he doesn’t get a deal.

“Simply put, Revis isn’t bluffing,” Mehta writes.

D’Brickashaw Ferguson’s contract extension is ultimately irrelevant here, unless it frees up time for the Jets front office to start making concessions to Revis.

Ultimately, we expect the issue to get resolved before the season, probably with a new deal. But Revis will likely have to follow through with his holdout threat to get there.

    NYJ’s are heading south.

    Good times!
Miami 1 up’ed new yawk once again in signing Lebron. Jests are in disarray with their best player… let the excuses roll.
BTW- The Sun shines brightest in Miami.

  4. BengalsDouche2 says: Jul 9, 2010 11:24 AM

Yep. NYJ thought they were building the ultimate team with all of those wash-ups they’ve signed and now all they’re doing is pissing off their talented young players. Enjoy the limelight while it lasted NYJ because once the season starts you’ll be irrelavant again.

  5. The Real Shuxion says: Jul 9, 2010 11:29 AM

Hey Revis, threaten to head up route 95 and play there. That will light a fire under their asses.

  6. BoltsFan says: Jul 9, 2010 11:30 AM

I am NOT a Jets fan, but I hope NY’s front office let’s this prima donna sit. Revis is a GREAT player, but a contract is a contract and someone has to slam the floodgate shut or the League is going to be undone by the greed of the inmates.

  7. Jonky says: Jul 9, 2010 11:31 AM

Its funny that Revis is quoted a lot and he has never been quoted as saying anything close to what Florio is trying to sell. Four anti-Jet stories already today and when was the last Mankins story? Three weeks ago? The yellow journalist makes his agenda very obvious.

  8. thegoldengod says: Jul 9, 2010 11:32 AM

Just throw him a bunch of $ up front and have another “verbal agreement” to update the contract again in 2-3 years—b/c there is no way they can meet his long term demands w/o a CBA.

  9. InBBWeTrust says: Jul 9, 2010 11:35 AM

As a DIE HARD Patriots fan, naturally I HATE the Jets more then anything else in this entire world.
With that being said… I suggest all fans of every team in the league should tune out for the next month or so because there is going to be a TON of BS floating around your team. The media loves to just make up lies geared towards getting hits on their site and driving fans nuts. Lets all just see how this plays out on the field. Revis will be on the field and doing what he does day 1, just like Tom Brady will get a contract extension.

Maybe in three years he can do that, but I don’t think it will be much of a threat by then.

  11. wope says: Jul 9, 2010 11:37 AM

Lmao at all the drama queen athletes these days. Let him sit. So tired of seeing these guys SIGN CONTRACTS and expect to not have to fufill the duties related to it.

  12. nflhof says: Jul 9, 2010 11:38 AM

Just give him some incentives to kick seven 60 yard field goals and he should sign and be a happy Jet.

  14. Tom says: Jul 9, 2010 11:47 AM

Why do they even sign a contract? Some of these players always believe they are getting screwed ten minutes after they sign the last contract. A damn promise is a promise so live with it you morons.

  15. GRpatriot says: Jul 9, 2010 11:47 AM

I guess Revis and Ty Law are more alike than I thought. It’s one thing to build your game on your hometown hero! It’s another thing to ask for that kind of deal….Oh wait a minute, I forgot!
Rex has told him a million times he’s the best there is, so it makes total sense to me now!

“the suns been shining on your 7-9 seasons for as long as i can remember ”
Sounds like you have a short memory to go along with your other body parts. Dolphins won the AFC East 2 years ago… time to kick the weed boy

  19. Wet Paper Bag says: Jul 9, 2010 12:30 PM

Why is it that folks keep saying that Revis is a “great” player? He’s only played ONE season. Guys like Nnamdi Asomugha, Champ Bailey, and Charles Woodson are “great” players because they have strung together MUPTIPLE seasons of “great” play.
I say let Revis sit. He WILLINGLY signed his rookie contract. His lack of a payday compared to his level of play is HIS fault…NOT the organizations. REVIS should have had better faith in himself when he negotiated his rookie contract.

“Simply put, Revis isn’t bluffing,” Mehta writes. Well no one knows that until August 10th. If he shows up, then he was in fact, bluffing. Mehta may be a great writer and he may have won our fantasy football league last year but he’s still a clown.

  21. Securb says: Jul 9, 2010 12:36 PM

Anyone can look great covering Ginn twice a year. Lets see how Revis does this year covering Marshall.

  22. bigbolt says: Jul 9, 2010 12:38 PM

Hey buddy, I’m glad LeBron signed with you guys, now you actually have something positive to look forward to.
Revis will get signed, he’s too vital to the team to let him sit. Once again, I am not swayed by his threats. Once training camp comes around then I’ll start really paying attention.

  26. HOI says: Jul 9, 2010 12:56 PM

the team came to him after last year and promised a new deal. They created this problem themselves…he still has time on his rookie deal. And relax Fish fans he’ll be here this year…dont order those division champ t-shirts yet.
And please Somefans with the Lebron BS…Its amazing how everyone in Miami became a Heat fan around 930 last night. Did you order your jersey this morning? Maybe people will show up to the basketball games now…but who knows…its Miami you guys cant even sell out a football game.

  27. tryagain says: Jul 9, 2010 1:04 PM

Jonky says: Four anti-Jet stories already today and when was the last Mankins story?
Good point, there definitely seems to be an agenda. That one post that Florio did about Ferguson’s contract was pathetic in it’s ‘we’-ness. I swear he’s turning into Perez Hilton and that’s not compliment in the slightest.

  28. Jonky says: Jul 9, 2010 1:11 PM

Now if only they could get fans to attend sporting events in Cryami. Dull-fins couldn’t sellout playoff games; Marlins couldn’t sell out the World Series and now the newest playoff team Cryamians will ignore the LukeWarms.

  29. TheSleepness says: Jul 9, 2010 1:19 PM

you could be a jet fan or a non jet fan but don’t sit there and tell me Darrelle Revis isn’t the best defensive player in the game today. You lose me @ that part. F the Jets but they’re damn lucky to have Revis. This is a passing league and what better deterrent than having a complete lock down corner?

  30. tacious says: Jul 9, 2010 1:24 PM

“the team came to him after last year and promised a new deal.”
How do you know they ‘promised’ him a new deal… b/c his agent said so? How do you know they didn’t say something like… “we’ll have to work on getting a little more $, instead of that $1mm you’re set to make?”
Everyone’s a god damn agent these days… you all know everything, don’t you… naturally, b/c you were in the room with them, right HOI?

  31. Marino13 says: Jul 9, 2010 1:33 PM

Another wannabe fan that has been snorting too much. Revis shut down all the elite WRs this year including Moss, TO and OchoCinco twice, Andre Johnson, VJackson, etc. Covering a good, but hardly elite, reciever like Marshall, Revis could do blind folded.

  36. NFLFokker says: Jul 9, 2010 2:18 PM

The bust, Ted Ginn burned one CB for a TD in all his time in Miami, Darrelle Revis. With or without him, the Jets will implode with their lack of chemisty and “me first” attitude. You alwyas have Joe Namath.

Okay there buddy, we have plenty to cheer about here in Miami. The Dolphins and Heat are building teams to contend for Championships for years. No desperate one hit wonders here.
As for Revis, I think he’ll back down and play too. He may be unhappy but he really has little leverage.

———————————————-Actually, the jests and revis had trouble with Ginn. Speed kills and he got behind them for TD several times over the past 3 Dolphin wins.
As for Marshall, he’ll simply out muscle lil revis like a rag doll. He too big and strong and revis will have his hands full trying to tackle the Beast. He will be expolsed this year- a good corner, but not as good as the noo jersey’er think.

its offical…you’re retarded. Andre Johnson isnt big and strong…Vicent Jackson isnt big and strong? Revis shut both of them down. But I forgot…once you guys signed Marshall he instantly became the best WR in the universe. So what do you guys have Marshall at now??….6’10 275….3.9 4oyd dash? Can you guys get a cape that big to fit this super hero. Better be careful he doesnt get one of your guys shot.

  40. SeriousRadio says: Jul 9, 2010 3:27 PM

I realize thaqt Jet players are cognizant of the serious injury that Washington suffered last season before getting an extension. I am wondering if players/teams don’t cover themselves with insurance against serious injury to key players. It seems all the rhetoric regarding injury risk before an extension is moot if insurance is available to protect against such an incident. But is it available?

Dolphin fans are such losers, you guys are all cooked, too much sun or sitting around being jobless idiots. On the bright side of things, South FL just got a nice little stimulus package called the LeBron Effect that might actually give you guys some jobs so you aren’t sitting here pressing F5 every minute refreshing the comments so you can amuse your dumb asses. To truly appreciate Namath you need to see the facts in the proper perspective. He was a 5 time Pro Bowl QB. He set and still holds the record for yards passing in a 14 game season(1967, 4007 yds) Come back player of the year 1974, Afl player of the year 68 and 69. Not bad for a guy who sometimes had to have both his kness drained at half time to continue playing.
Oh, don’t forget Super Bowl MVP.
