Pats get seventh-rounder under contract

The process of signing non-first-round picks to rookie deals continues.

The Patriots have added seventh-round defensive end Brandon Deaderick, according to Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald.

Deaderick was the 247th overall pick in the draft.

The Pats now have six of 12 draft picks under contract.  Like every team but the Jets, they haven’t signed any players in the first two rounds.

  1. This is the guy that got shot in the arm and played the following week! What a steal in the 7th!
Good luck Brandon. Talk about toughness. Role Tide.

  2. YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
The only thing that would have made this story cooler was if he was a DT.
    YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

  3. He is a 3-4 DE Ralph. Kid is 6’4 295lbs. He was a key member of Bama’s 2010 NC team. He was a definite steal for the Pats.

  4. Any team with a brain is not making significant financial commitments as they wait for the economy to collapse. Once that happens they can sign these players chosen in the higher rounds for peanuts. Not to mention signing vets for peanuts as well.

  5. If the economy tanks again I doubt it will have much of an effect on NFL salaries. The main thing keeping the higher rounds from contracts right now is that no one has any idea how or if the CBA will turn out.
