Darnell Dockett rips Roethlisberger

Cardinals defensive end Darnell Dockett is a wordsmith of sorts, and unafraid to speak his mind no matter the topic.  We’ve seen this recently in his observations on Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, Dockett’s Redskins thoughts in general, and even his offseason warnings to new teammate Kerry Rhodes.

Dockett was back at it Friday in an online chat for ESPN SportsNation, turning what was intended to be a player-fan meet and greet into a brief roast of suspended Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
Asked which NFL quarterback he has the most trouble bringing down, Dockett replied “The toughest QB to sack is Ben Roethlisberger.”
Asked which NFL quarterback is easiest to bring down, Dockett answered “The easiest QB to sack is Ben Roethlisberger if you can catch him in a bathroom stall.”
Dockett took another shot, though more subtly, at Vikings quarterback Brett Favre in response to a question about the possibility of Kurt Warner making a surprise, last-minute return to football.
“No, I don’t think Kurt Warner searches for attention like Brett Favre,” said Dockett.  “I think Kurt will tell us ahead of time if he is going to play with us and not pull a circus act and tell us two weeks before the season.  I think Kurt gives us more respect than that.”
As for Dockett’s long-tenuous contract situation?  The two-time Pro Bowler says he’s “waiting like Rip Van Winkle.”

“Darnell, that comment about Roethlisberger in the bathroom stall was hilarious, do you think the NFL will fine you for that?”

    Why? What did I do?
    hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Love Dockett’s comments. He is spot on regarding Brett Favre’s narcissism and the lack of respect Favre shows his teammates/team.

Now we have a strong suspicion who is responsible for the weakest of the Roethlisberger cracks on this site.

Good heavens. Not even proofreading/editing by Spellcheck?
That Florio must really run a sweatshop out back of the house in the PFT World HQ/ lawnmower shed!

and in related news, charles woodson happens to think that a. rodgers is the best qb in the nfl…….can’t wait for the season to start when the games become the facts and the preseason bullchit ceases. As the “esteemed” denny green once said, “what’s good about america is that everyone is entitled to their own opinion”……isn’t he the same guy who said, “they are who we thought they were”, LMAO

    Really digital bath?
Arguably one of the top DL in the NFL…2-time Pro Bowler…set/tied the Super Bowl record for sacks two years ago with 3…
He’s been pretty quied I’d say for his standard. Until rececntly with some humorous comments I dont think he’s done anything wrong.
He hasn’t verbally attacked anyone. These comments are harmless.

Speaking of being owned, what does your 2008 NFC Championship ring look like, Darnell? Does it have as many diamonds or carry the same significance as a Super Bowl XLIII ring?
Damn. Maybe you should have stopped Ben from driving 88 yards on you. You played a damn good game that day. You just weren’t quite good enough when it mattered the most.

———————————————————Exactly how is he a fool? Because he’s hilarious, I guess. He’s a pro-bowler DT and he tied Reggie White’s record for sacks in a Super Bowl with 3 sacks on Roethlisberger. As a DT! Just because he doesn’t play for an East Coast team doesn’t mean he’s not relevant.

    …Well…gotta give him that…

  15. TylerRDunn says: Jul 11, 2010 1:30 PM

Dockett’s mouth is getting bigger than his play. I’m getting pretty sick of hearing about the guy. The only thing getting “pwnd” here was our intelligence.

  16. slutnuts says: Jul 11, 2010 1:37 PM

“No, I don’t think Kurt Warner searches for attention like Brett Favre,”
the statement should have ended with “or myself”..this guys ripping on the attention whore that is favre, but has no problem seeking attention throwing public jabs at roethlisberger…
and has this site really gone to the ridiculousness that is the word “pown”, and its childish text-like spelling?

  17. steeltownpride says: Jul 11, 2010 1:38 PM

Seems to me Roethlisberger pwnd Dockett in Superbowl 43 . Its ok though Darrell you always have your nfc title ring to look at when your retired . Ben will have 3 or 4 SB rings to admire .

  18. Turd_Spelunker says: Jul 11, 2010 1:39 PM

You guys really don’t know that “PWND” is a word? Really?

  19. JimmySmith says: Jul 11, 2010 1:40 PM

While funny, its not true. Rapesagirl did not get sacked in a bathroom stall, he got away with it. Most likely some money changed hands and the cops could have at least nailed him for walking around with his junk hanging out, (its called Indecent Exposure but around Ben’s police pals, its considered foreplay).
Pittsburgh must be so proud, their star QB the subject of cheap jokes, sort of like their team this year.

  20. Phyxsius says: Jul 11, 2010 1:44 PM

You Steeler homers really need to get a grip and learn to laugh a little at the situation. These jokes on your QB will never go away. Better just loosen up and roll with the flow.

  21. NationalFelonLeague.com © says: Jul 11, 2010 1:55 PM

Hard to bring down a QB that weighs more than you do.

  22. Adam-Chris Schefterson says: Jul 11, 2010 2:02 PM

Florio goes fishing and we have the first ever appearance of “pwns” in a PFT post. The old saying is true… Be careful what you wish for.

  23. Cruells says: Jul 11, 2010 2:08 PM

“pwns” Way to geek it up..

  24. Sociofan says: Jul 11, 2010 2:09 PM

Okay Fvan, as a writer you just lost all credibility with me. Writing a headline with “pwned” in it means I cannot take seriously anything you write afterward. Seriously, is pitching into PFT a middle-school internship or something?

  25. BlitzburghGator says: Jul 11, 2010 2:10 PM

Dockett is a POS, and has no room to talk about anyone else.
While at FSU, Darnell broke a guy’s leg in a pile up, then later the same game tried to stomp on the QB’s hand twice.
The only thing Dockett is qualified to comment on is dirty play and how to be a cheap shot artist.

  26. Matt Cribbin says: Jul 11, 2010 2:13 PM

Funny, he’s messing with Favre about wanting attention. What the hell is this guys deal? He seems to crave attention desperately with his not funny, completely obvious remarks. “Waiting like Rip Van Winkle,” what the hell does that mean?

  27. Burning River says: Jul 11, 2010 2:17 PM

If you Steeler fans really, really care about your sociopathic QB on a personal level, maybe you should write to the Rooneys. Tell them to put down the soccer team long enough to fill in the holes in that swiss cheese, called an “offensive line.”
Maybe all of this skank-fondling is due to his brain getting bounced off the inside of his thick skull on Sundays.
Not to mention a car’s windshield.
Anyway, if I was Rockthisberger, and saw THAT shitty bunch of never-were’s blocking for ME on game-day, I would probably retire.
But I just don’t see him being that smart.

  28. Onderin says: Jul 11, 2010 2:29 PM

Why are people acting like they they’ve never said “pwn” before? It’s a funny term that applies in this situation. PFT has already shown that they don’t go by the traditional rules of journalism so who cares if they say “pwns”?
If you changed it to “rips” for professionalism, I understand. If you changed it for the nerds pretending like they aren’t nerds because it’s a sports site, then screw them.

  29. this class sucks says: Jul 11, 2010 2:31 PM

I think you guys throw around the word “rip” too easily. I would say ripping someone has to actually attack their talent, not make a joke about something that happened.

  30. FoF says: Jul 11, 2010 3:06 PM

Yep, Favre the attention whore. The guy practically locks himself up in his compound in seclusion all off season, very rarely talks to the media, but yet is an attention whore.
You want to see an attention whore? Look no further than Erin Rodgers who tries to get his picture into the Hollywood tabloids every week.

Ben will have to sell his rings to get jail money to buy Cup Of Noodles in the commisary.

  34. Deb says: Jul 11, 2010 3:56 PM

  35. khall says: Jul 11, 2010 4:11 PM

At least Roethlisberger doesn’t have a criminal record Darnell!
Or did you forget that little incident you had a few years ago? No, not the one where you showered in an online video and had to apologize to the kids later on…the other one —
“Dockett, 21, turned himself into the Leon County Jail and was released on $1,000 bail. He was charged with a third-degree felony, which has a maximum penalty of five years in jail.
“According to Tallahassee police, Dockett visited the Sports Fan-Attic, a store co-owned by the Falcons’ and formerly the Bucs’ Warrick Dunn, who played at FSU, at Governor’s Square Mall on Dec. 17 and was told by employees Kambe Roberson, 19, and Taisha Bailey, 21, he could obtain merchandise for a “discount” and a “fee.” Two days later Dockett returned and was captured by store cameras paying $107 for three items:
    – A LaDainian Tomlinson jersey (value of $259.99).
    – A Priest Holmes jersey ($229.99).
    – A Philadelphia 76ers shooting shirt ($520).
    With items worth $1,009.98, that’s a 90 percent discount. “

He’s just trying to get some attention now. Once the season starts noone will be talking about the lowly cards. Mabye he will blow his knee out this year and join Lavar on his show…seems all they want to do is bash players and giggle like little school girls.

I suppose those pictures of Favre’s ankle somehow escaped Favre’s compound on their own? I’m pretty sure after taking 50 sacks Rodgers had a few bruises. I just can’t find any evidence of them on the intergoogle.

  39. GB3Pack4 says: Jul 11, 2010 4:24 PM

Evan, being a wordsmith implies a certain level of skill in the use of words. There’s a difference between that and just taking cheap shots at people because somebody sticks a mike in your face and you can’t resist the opportunity to show everybody how clever you are. Darnell would be better off resisting the temptation and focusing his attentions elsewhere, like on football.

quite, really, not a chance, the dude hasnt shut up all offseason since he was bounced from playoffsthats fine if you want to list his stats, but let me know when he is doing into his 10-18th season, ben and favre combined have 3 rings and worlds of experience more than this dude who only wants headlines, guess he needs to be loud now cause when the season starts and the cards go without warner,he wont say much when they are once again the bottom dwellers of nfcwest,he is just a big mouth, miss the good ol days when guys didnt talk till they had accomplished something. Now every tom dick and harry want to have twitty pages to talk smack after they lose, talking big is for guys who cant play big,MIKEY!!

  43. Laxer37 says: Jul 11, 2010 8:09 PM

The jab at Ben was hilarious on its own, until you realize it came out of the mouth of a guy that had his heart ripped out by Roetlisberger.
Then it just looks like bitterness.
(Kind of like when you realize Matt Leinart or Derek Anderson will be your starting QB.)

Arizona has prepared for the season as if they expect Warner to come out of retirement. They certainly haven’t addressed the quarterback situation.
