As previously reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the NFL has officially suspended Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson three games for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. The suspension arises from two guilty pleas to DUI charges.
The Chargers issued an announcement regarding the suspension. No mention was made regarding whether Jackson has any remaining appeal rights.
It’s possible, if not likely, that he already has appealed the decision. Typically, the appeal hearings are held and decisions are made before training camps open.
“Obviously we’re
disappointed,” G.M. A.J. Smith said in a statement from the team. “Vincent made a mistake and now must deal with the
consequences. It’s unfortunate, but we’ll deal with it and
move on.”
The suspension will serve only to make Jackson less likely to accept his restricted free agency tender before the start of the regular season. Even if he signs the contract, he’ll already miss the first three games of the year.
He will sign it when he sobers up.
So, I guess he’ll be sitting out 2 years (lockout) and 3 games?
Smart move.
Can he report for the minimum number of games this season and still serve out his suspension? Or does he have to report for the suspended games plus the minimum for his contract?
He is less likely to sign the tender, but his holdout leverage is dropping also
I’m so bored with this, I want to see a story that he got traded or signed. Before morons start posting the “if it’s so boring, than how come you commented on it?” I will respond. I am commenting my displeasure at this story, not in support of the story.
He has to sign while standing on one foot and touching his nose with the index finger of his other hand.
Not hatting Charger Fans, but what other WR is going to catch the balls down there?
Antonio Gates can’t carry this offense.
If Jackson signs, you are looking at my favorite to take the AFC. Seriously, how does this team not get the respect they deserve?
Still yet, no Jackson and this team takes a huge hit. Bolt fans, he is a dick, but you need him.
Also I’m not sold on Matthews. Can anyone tell me how he looked in OTA’s?
Nothing like pissing your career away…..nice job Jackson, way to let your weasel money grubbing agent dictate your career…..i guess we’ll see you on the field again in 2014….no way AJ lets you on the field after you report in Wk 11 this year (2010), lockout next year (2011), AJ slaps franchise tag on you in 2012, and then slaps the tag on you again in 2013 just to PROVE A POINT. I guess we’ll see you again in 2014, nice job moron. Do you realize you’re a total JACKASS off the field and were just suspended by the NFL??? Do your realize EVERY team in the league had the opportunity to sign you to a FA deal this offseason and NOBODY took the bait??? Do you know what GM you’re dealing with? Do you know he would rather spend 5 years winning the pissing contest with you rather than making a trade or letting you go??? Wake up Jackson, take control of your career before your weasel agent makes you IRRELEVANT!!!
This guy just wants to mess up his career..

How convenient that Goodell sidestepped the personal conduct policy. Ben Roethlisberger got hosed, and he was a chump for accepting ANY discipline from this idiot.
@ this class sucks
then why are you commenting on it if it’s so boring .
So if the GM was talking as if they’d play the season w/o Jackson why the hell does he care if he’s suspended for three games? Talking out of both sides of mouth.
I cannot STAND how PC nation calls deliberate and multiple bad decisions “MISTAKES”. STOP IT!!!!!!!
Getting behind the wheel drunk and without a license multiple times is NOT A MISTAKE…IT IS A DELIBERATE DECISION. DO NOT MINIMIZE IT BY SAYING “MISTAKE”!
“If Jackson signs, you are looking at my favorite to take the AFC. Seriously, how does this team not get the respect they deserve?”
Because they choke in the big games. Look at their playoff history. Lots of talent, lack of focus and a good kicker…
@ somefans
I wouldn’t call it choking, it’s all professional football. The single game where the Chargers gave it away was the Pat game but the Jets came to SD last year and took it from em in convincing fashion. Nevermind Kaeding, who is the most accurate kicker of all time and had a bad Jets game, but this team had some huge holes last year. No running game at all and inconsistent run stopping. If Rivers could get some yards on the ground then it would be scarier than the 06 year. That, mixed with a swarming defense, and the Chargers have the mixture for a elite team.
People talk about the Jets’ offseason with all the big talent but big drama guys, but the Chargers seemed to have filled the gaps where they needed to and are poised to make a HUGE run this year.
