Brian Hartline's pickup abandoned after crash

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that a 2008 Ford pickup truck registered to Dolphins wide receiver Brian Hartline was discovered abandoned following a crash on highway I-595 earlier this month.

The accident reportedly took place at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 3.  Hartline’s vehicle collided with a parked 2002 Cadillac Escalade just east of I-95.  The pickup was ultimately towed from the scene.
“His vehicle ran off the road and hit the parked car,” said Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Mark Wysocky.  “We don’t know who was driving the vehicle.”
An FHP trooper attempted to contact Hartline’s wife, and the call was returned by Hartline’s attorney.  The lawyer assured police that his client was uninjured, which was probably a little less than what authorities wanted to know.
Florida Highway Patrol still hasn’t heard from Hartline, and a Dolphins spokesperson says the team is unaware of the incident.
In Miami, Hartline is considered the heavy favorite to start opposite Brandon Marshall this season.  A fourth-round pick out of Ohio State two Aprils ago, Hartline impressed as a rookie with a 16.4 yards-per-reception average.  He ranked second in the league to only San Diego’s Vincent Jackson in percentage of catches for first downs.

  1. lmao…maybe he was just practicing his routes!! And you guys talk about the Jets cast of ‘Goons’?? You guys are clearly the salt of the earth!

  2. I thought with Brandon Marshall there he would take the double team and Hartline would not get “jammed” up.

  3. Wow!!!!! You must be psychic Evan. Your headline says Hartline fleed the scene. The FHP says they don’t know who was driving the vehicle. I’m impressed. Well, unless maybe it was YOU driving the vehicle and you’re trying to put the blame on Hartline.

  4. And the Dolphins front office says, “No comment, as usual.”
Hartline was reached for a statement three days after the crash and said, “My cousin borrowed the truck, crashed, and didn’t know what to do, so he left.”

  5. 1. Nobody but Hartline knows who was driving.
    2. If he did drink and drive, although it’s a serious offense, it’s not like killing dogs or…eh people, or having sex with little girls.
    3. JETS SUCK!

  6. He did the right thing. Now he can claim whatever he wants and I’m sure the alcohol is out of his system by now.
    Thugs and hoodlums 2010…

  7. If you’re drunk this is the smartest thing to do. If they can’t get you at the scene the case gets fuzzy.

  8. if Florio wrote this instead of Silva I am sure Ronnie Brown would have been mentioned as well as Tony McDaniels and others. Also he would have ripped the team.
Thank you Silva for keeping it to the news at hand.

  9. It probably was Hartline, but as others have said already, this headline is definitely the wrong way to go. Reads like libel to me.

  10. Relax, all right? My old man is a television repairman, he’s got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it…All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I’m fine.

  11. It’s the Pete Prisco effect. Everything that little greaseball touches turns to crap. In record time.

  12. “Brian Hartline flees scene after car accident”
    -=-=-=-=-=-
So if the FHP accept that Hartline wasn’t driving does that mean he can sue Silva?

  13. Isn’t it funny that no matter the situation or who it involves, you can always count on one thing. The fans of the player involved will refuse to look at the situation in a logical and objective perspective as to what probably happened. None of them must have ever successfully passed 1st grade “connect the dots” class. Brandon Underwood, L. Taylor, Vick, Hartline, Burress, Johnny Jolly, M.Harrison, JaMarcus Russell, the Raper, etc. etc……..we can always count on 2 things happening 1) the player’s lawyer looks forward to their “day in court and 2) the fans of the player will defend him out of court…..LMAO

  14. Ahhh Evan Silva, Im suprised he didnt try to somehow mention Jamaal Charles in this article.
If Brian Hartline was black their would be no doubt from the commenters that he was driving, but since he is white some of you are confused so let me clear it up for you. Brian Hartline was driving truck, sorry.

  15. Ken LaVicka looked it up on Twitter. According to Hartline’s tweets he was in California as late as June 29th, and was heading to Ohio as of July 6th. The crash happened on July 3rd.
Cmoney2o your an idiot….and this headline is just plain stupid…..he wont miss a game its nothing sorry yets fans

  16. “So if the FHP accept that Hartline wasn’t driving does that mean he can sue Silva?”
Only if Silva KNOWS what he wrote is untrue, with malicious intent. Wicked hard to prove…

  17. Maybe his pitbull was driving him to an open b-day party and he had to stop at the golf course

  18. where are all the Devone BEss supporters now? a few months ago he was god like and now its hartline?
and for the love of god! when a person’s vehicle is found like this, why, why, why, do people insist that it is NOT the player who was at fault….i highly doubt the cousin would have run when HRtline would have had every reason to run and not get caught… face it Miami, you just cant handle the thought that u are more mediocre than u think….
Miami fans knock the jets and yet they are doing exactly what the jets are doing…..
decent drafting, young qb solid running game and high profile free agents – it is a copy cat league
…. dont knock the Jets criminial players, the phins have the one player who has recieved more chances than any body in sports history with ricky williams

  19. I writing this email from California, actually Arizona, somewhere other than Foxboro so if my truck is found at the scene of an accident, it couldn’t be me.
And when the police call and my lawyer answers, it definitely wasn’t me.

  20. Purple drank strikes again!!!
I hope Goodell makes an example of this dummy. This type of behavior can’t be tolerated.

  21. “Only if Silva KNOWS what he wrote is untrue, with malicious intent. Wicked hard to prove… ”
    Thanks for the info.

  22. Maybe it’s due to the statement of the lawyer, that “his client was uninjured” which leads him to believe that Hartline was driving. I would guess the lawyer would say that Brian had nothing to do with it in his statement if he did not….

  23. Hartline’s lawyer said that his client was uninjured. Not a legal scholar, but if he was heading to Ohio according to Hitman22, why would the attorney say that?

  24. …Dude, that’s my SKULL. I am so wasted!…
    [crash]
Uh…oh, Rickey, we better get outta here…

  25. LOL AT MIAMI AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN….
Jesus. Just shut it down and put some bars on the windows, Parcells is really selling his sole to these Hoodlums…..

  26. Billsfan1, follow a relevant team first than we’ll care about your opinion. Hartline wasn’t even in the state at that time, I hope silva changes the title to something more accurate instead of going for one poised to generate comments.

  27. You can tell Florio did not write this piece, there was no mention of Miami thugs and Parcels

  28. Well, I can gurantee he won’t get a dui or anything of that nature 😛
and the comment from the attorney.. I haven’t seen a direct statement/quote saying he was there… from any news source yet hrm
anyway can tell it’s not Florio.. tho I’m sure hell post something in response to this spewing thugs and hoodlums across the world. granted, he still has yet to explain what a “thug and hoodlum” is in his eyes.. since he could possibly be determined to be one.

  29. The accident actually took place around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 8. Hartline’s vehicle collided with a parked 2002 Cadillac Escalade, with the license plate DWADE, just east of I-95.
An FHP trooper attempted to contact Hartline’s wife, and the call was returned by Hartline’s attorney. The lawyer assured police that his client was unable to answer the phone as he was burning his LeBron jersey.
Hartline’s from the Akron-Canton area. I bet he was PISSED.

  30. Haha, Hartline and brother Mike (a good guy, QB at Kentucky now) grew up, on my street. Brian’s dad still owes my buddy for hitting his car while we were in high school.
Also amusingly enough when Brian was in town over the summer, he drove around in a Ford Explorer that had his Ohio State number and name as well as his Dolphins number and name on the back window.

Not to mention his heel, as well!

  32. Well fleeing the seen with no witness is less of an offense than DUI. Brian has a good head on his shoulders. It will pay off when the season begins.

  33. “In Miami, Hartline is considered the heavy favorite to start opposite Brandon Marshall this season.”
    ******************
I think you meant to say that he “WAS considered the heavy favorite…”

  34. RE: Well fleeing the seen with no witness is less of an offense than DUI. Brian has a good head on his shoulders. It will pay off when the season begins.
What if he beat a pregant lady on the way home as well?
    Miami : NO COMMENT!!!!

  35. Pete Prisco of CBS predicts that WR Brian Hartline will win a starting job in Miami.

  36. hahaha u fools. “i hope goodell does this wha wha whaaaaaa” somebody call the whambulance.
this is a victimless crime. Smart move on whoevers part to leave the scene, as i am sure if the cops came at the time, the driver wouldve faced harsher penalties than that person will if hes ever caught (which he wont be). Goodell cant do jack! neither can the cops!
give credit when credit is due. this guy saved himself and his entire organization a headache by presumably leaving.

  37. Thugs and hoodlums! 😀
but seriously, if he was drunk, at least he was smart and fled the scene….although it’s sounding like he wasn’t even in town.

  38. Well it looks like you finally changed the headline, after your reckless and unsubstantiated reporting. I can’t believe you’re letting facts get in the way……

  40. I’ve been saving screenshots of all their terrible reporting… and manipulative nature. It will go up on my site 😛
they flip on Crowder and then just think they deleted all evidence after making fools of themselves for simply always trying to jump the gun on people.. and now you have Hartline. First it was he fled the scene… but now it’s changed since they have no idea what happened yet. “:)
It’s great watching these guys squirm

Where does it say he was driving it?!?!? It only says it was his truck.
    Wow. Just wow.

  42. @jetsareajoke & cnelson13:
My apologies. I did not see the original headline.
    My bad.

  43. Truck stolen by thugs & hoodlems, jets WERE a fluke & the bills & patsies suck!!! Miami Dolphins AFC East champions 2010!!! GO FINS!!!

  46. I cant believe you people……your actually acting like your not sure if Brian Hartline was driving the truck…..Wow just Wow. And then its funny he ran away drunk, because he’s white. Wow the most racist site ive ever witnessed. Sad commentary on our society, sad.

  47. Since the vehicle in question was a Ford pickup, Hartline will face a misdemeanor littering charge and a $150 dollar fine. Plus the cost of towing the Ford to a place it belongs.

Wow, you really got me there. Geeesh.

  49. seriously? how does this even make headlines? there really is nothing going on the the nfl right now because no one outside side of miami or ohio has any idea who hartline is or gives a crap. CMON MAN

  50. Driving can kill nor save lives, depending on how the driver see’s his importance. Sometimes when your automobile has a problem, the biggest challenge is getting it to a repair shop. There are many temporary fixes you can do to get your car up and running long enough to drive it from point A to point B.
I read this here: Offbeat auto fixes for the DIY road warrior
Soap, pantyhose and twigs, can really fix some very small issues and get your automobile where you need it to go. If you can get your car to the auto shop with a twig, there is no reason to take out personal financing for a mechanic.
