Mike Tomlin's new deal raises some interesting questions

Another PTF reporter not knowing what their talking about. Ben was not sued he is being sued the case is not over. And Tomlins not a babysitter so how can he be the blame unless he there and dose nothing then yes. The PFT ppl need to get a life and learn facts before talking

  2. haller0 says: Jul 14, 2010 2:51 PM

I keep trying to get to PFT the Football site, but keep getting redirected to TMZ.
Why the Steeler’s have to answer any of the questions raised on this video is beyond me outside of the dollar amount of the new contract.
Tomlin can’t tag along with Big Ben when he is out raping underage women and pissing on golf courses.

    Stop it florio!

  4. Philly Cheese says: Jul 14, 2010 2:58 PM

Ridiculous to think that the Steelers would expect the coach to babysit a grown man that they themselves are paying millions of dollars to lead their franchise. If he needs a babysitter, then they probably should not be employing the buffoon.

Ben showed signs of horrid judgment and irresponsibility and lack of responsiveness to advice years before he even knew Mike Tomlin.
I don’t remember anyone blaming Cowher for his motorcycle incident. Stories of his arrogance and classlessness were common in Pittsburgh before Tomlin became the coach. Was that Cowher’s fault?
Ben has shown it doesn’t matter who his boss is; he’s irresponsible.
You’re acting like if Tomlin would have sat Ben down one night and said “You know, son, forcing yourself on women is wrong” it would have been some sort of revelation and he would have responded to it.

  22. HandsofSweed says: Jul 14, 2010 4:06 PM

Guys, don’t get mad at Brownsfan! It’s JULY. Everyone has a chance in July and Pittsburgh always looks like they’re falling apart in July. Every year since 1972 has been “the year” that the Steelers will finally fade into oblivion forever. Hell, why not just add this year to the last 38?
Looks like we have no chance, boys. Everyone on our schedule might as well just not prepare and assume that bc fans hate the Steelers and predict demise, that there’s no way in hell they could possibly lose to such a historically awful team like Pittsburgh.

You’d be surprised if the Browns ever had a good team in your lifetime? Well, then I’m guessing you must be about 14 years old, because the Browns got into the second round of the playoffs in 1995. Usually, “good” teams make the playoffs- especially ones that at least make it past the first round. Or maybe you’re only about 7 years old because they were in the playoffs after the 2002 (or was it 2003?) season as well.
Maybe you’re about 19 and don’t remember the Browns going to the AFC championship in 1990.
Either way, it would be great if we could get these little kids off of PFT :)

  27. Deb says: Jul 14, 2010 4:28 PM

Good grief, Florio, this is getting sad.
Wondering what Tomlin’s making? NFL Network has been reporting for at least 24 hours the deal is worth $5 mil/year.
Wondering if the Rooneys blame Tomlin for Ben’s off-field hijinks? Did they blame Cowher? You think Roethlisberger suddenly started acting the idiot when Tomlin showed up? You think they blame him for Reed beating up towel dispensers? The oil leak in the Gulf?
    Geez, honey, get a grip.

If the steelers organization claim to have such high moral standards, why is Ben still on the team?

  29. JimmySmith says: Jul 14, 2010 4:35 PM

The Rooneys have officially taken leave of their senses. Their first order of buiness should be to get rid of Rapesagirl and return some level of professionalism to their franchise.
Then see if Tomlin can actually get back to the playoffs before they extend any contract. I say the Fixsburgh Steelers are heading for some dark days ahead but karma is a bitch.

Honest question. And actually anyone can answer who would have an answer… Why do you care about the professionalism of the franchise? Why do you care if Ben is playing or not? Many folks have them going 0-16 this season with Ben behind center, and the Steelers all but folding the year after and the Rooney’s getting busted for child porn. Karma will have been served, an extra playoff spot to fight over, and the Browns move up a spot in the division by default.
One would think you’d want things to remain as they are.

  36. ItalianArmyGuy says: Jul 14, 2010 5:28 PM

If the Rooneys start firing head coaches because they can’t “control” Ben Roethlisberger, Steeler nation is in big trouble.
I would much rather see Ben go than Tomlin, if it came to that. Ben has shown no ability to control himself – coaches should be X’s and O’s geniuses and leaders – not babysitters.

  39. Socrates says: Jul 14, 2010 6:38 PM

Only 2 playoff berths between ’33 and ’71, since then, one 4 year stretch (’85,’86,’87,’88) one 3 year stretch (’98,’99,’00) other than that no more than a 2 year gap between playoff seasons and that’s only happened twice.

So, uh, yeah. I know you Steeler fans love to rewrite history and think that the only times in the NFL worth shit are the 70s and parts of the 90s/00s. It’s my pleasure to remind you of all the other times they *did* suck and how, like any other team, you can expect to experience a long bout of suckitude pretty much anytime now.”
I love how you think you’re being so clever…rewriting history? How do you figure?
No, sorry I don’t remember 1933 through about 1980. I do read history though, and I know the Steelers have more Super Bowl championships than any other team. My memory is short, but I don’t have to think back very far to the last team that’s won two titles in four years.

Yep, that’s what those 6 rings say to me.
Every other team who has been to or won a Super Bowl or Championship? Totally legitimate (and that includes the Bengals and Ravens). The Steelers? Ehhh.. not so much.

We aren’t rewriting history. I do suppose that you were little more than an itch in your daddy’s pants before the seventies arrived? Yes, the Steelers went from perennial door mats to one of the greatest teams in the history of football. But let’s not dwell on the past. Is your team on their schedule this year? I’ll be looking forward to that game.
Mr. Florio is like “Hercules Unchained!” when it comes to criticizing the Steelers. The amount of Coach Tomlin’s contract is already known and of course, Coach Tomlin is not responsible for Ben when Ben is off the playing field. Ben is a grown man who has to stop looking to the past when it comes to future relationships. College girls in a bar? There used to be a term for that when I was growing up. It’s called JAIL BAIT!

Funny how he just ignored both of my comments to him. He brags about ’95 and ’03 without knowing that the Browns lost to the Steelers in the playoffs both of those years, we beat them 3 times in ’95.
