I hate the Falcons but Meier ran an official 4.62 at the combine and then a 4.51 at his pro day. His 3 cone drill of 6.52 is awesome. No, he isn’t a sprinter, but his 40 times are a lot better than the player he most resembles, Anquan Boldin.

Writer basically makes it seem like Meier isn’t good enough to make the team let alone be any good in this league besides on kickoffs. Screw that ATL has horrible WR depth and Meier should definitly make the team. Granted Michael Jenkins and Harry Douglas stay heathly AND productive he might see limited snaps but don’t count him out just yet… we are way too far away from season to do that to anyone at this point.

Lets work on our ability to understand what we read.
“Meier isn’t going to be a dynamic player in the pros. ”
“IDK how you can justify the fact that Meier won’t have a succesful career” He didn’t say he wouldn’t have a successful career.
Lets also not point to the rare exceptions like Rice, Welker and Ward to make the writer seem stupid. Do you really want to compare the relative handful of stars in the league who ran “4.7″ 40′s with the laundry list of guys who ran that time and didn’t stick? (often because they wern’t an asset on special teams either)
The Finneran comparison makes sense. Possibly looking to replace him with a similar skill set. But really, did you ever feel the Falcons were going to go far with Fin as a major factor in the offense? He was a reliable role player who you knew would do his job. Certainly not dynamic.

With Brian Finneran’s career coming to an end Meier could be a nice replacement. Finn ran a 4.59 coming out of college, which was his fastest recorded time, he’s 6’5″ instead of 6’3″ but both players are essentially the same guy.
With the potential starting line up of White/Douglas/Jenkins and Gonzalez a player like Meier could be a great 4th WR. Funny enough Finn has been a great special teams player over his career, there’s no reason Meier can’t play both WR and Special Teams.
To those mocking this pick by the Falcons, $487,500 a year for a player with the upside of Meier is a deal I’d take any day of the week.

Running a 4.6, Jerry Rice was never going to be as explosive a player in the NFL. Wes Welker ran a 4.7. The 40 means nothing.

Brian Finneran was always a reliable target in Atlanta and that was with two torn acl’s. It takes hard work and determination in this league to be successful and IDK how you can justify the fact that Meier won’t have a succesful career when he hasn’t even taken a snap yet. I suggest Silva you give the kid a chance before you find yourself eating sand outta your toes.

Kerry is a football player. He might now WOW anyone with his speed but he knows how to get open and catches everything in sight. He will be a good number 2 or 3 WR in the league.

Hines Ward isn’t a burner, and he’s at 10,947 yards and 895 receptions, and he’s the most prolific receiver in the history of a storied franchise…
Not saying this guy’s going to be Hines, but running a 4.6 isn’t a career death sentence.
