First of all, I never called anyone any names such as what you have done, everyone hear for the most part has been intellectually thought out and well written. When you call people “insular and socially retarded” you destroy your credibility and turn people off to your point.
My “bigotry”as you call it, isn’t what directs my thoughts or preferences. What I think doesn’t matter, It’s what God commands. Instead of using conversation ending words such as “bigot” “hater” “left/right winger” try to elaborate on your thought, because you do in fact come across as a “bigot”.

Well it’s true, in America we are far more accepting of alternative lifestyles than most, try reading websites from the Middle East and see what they do to gays there. Gays in this country couldn’t pull off in Iran, Iraq or any other Muslim theocratic countries. People hear fear Christians trying “force” religion on people, try living over there. You would be very thankful for America and our freedom of religion.

Ok – I think you’re really trying to be sincere, so I am going to try to be nice to you.
I cannot hate something that doesn’t exist. I have plenty of joy and peace. I am mentally strong enough to bear my own trials & tribulations. I don’t need a supernatural being to solve my problems because humans evolved with brains that are quite capable of doing their thinking for them.
I do not accept your bible as a word of a god. I do not believe in Vishnu. I do not believe in Mohammed. I do not believe in Jesus. I do not believe in a Creator. I do not believe in fairy tales or mythology – which to me, all religions are.
It’s nice of you to offer “help”, so I thank you for that. I just don’t happen to need any. I am very familiar with Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism and even Wicca. I’ve read the bible front to back. Twice even. It is not for a lack of information about religion or your god in particular that I do not believe. It is because I have explored these topics and STILL don’t believe. You’re not going to change that.
So do not worry about me. I do not believe in hell because it doesn’t exist. The only accounting I must give about my life is to my own conscience on a daily basis. Rest assured, I live a good, prosperous life filled with purpose. A god isn’t required for that either.

I really do come here for football news and a break from other things in life. There are other sites I go to discuss Christian veiws and other related topics. I usually enjoy the banter and sports talk and rarley get excited, except when Italinarmyguy attacks the Patriots…:D

Oh please. What a ridiculous statement to even make. This country is going to fail because it is run by corporatists and GOP empire-building freaks. Corporations, thanks to the conservative activist SCOTUS, now have the same rights as people for campaign funding. And it won’t stop there. We’re still in 2 Republican wars that are draining our resources – both financial & human – all for the profits for the military industrial complex and to ensure that we pillage the resources of third world nations. The military budget, including Homeland Security and other ancillary departments, now sucks up 54% of our budget. While we’re out trying to make COIN work, our BRIDGES are falling down – right out from underneath us. Becoming a third world nation ourselves is not inconceivable.
Stop reading the bible and start reading the news. And make sure to avoid FOX News so you at least have a chance at getting actual facts.

Well first of all, I have to assume your entire post is a joke do to your SN, which is very funny.
Before I begin, I would like to say, I mean you no offense. Your response was largely, coherent and as polite a response as I can expect from PFT. I don’t know you, and I don’t dislike you. I’m not going to insult your intelligence , or anything like that. I would simply like to offer my rebuttal.
Lets start with your “theology is the study of god” idea. While its true the term finds its roots in the Latin term theologia (meaning litteraly the study of god,) the modern English definition is usually stated as “the science of things divine.” Theology is used in myriad ways in today’s culture. The most common ways are; to explain, test, and critique religious beliefs. This includes, but is not limited to, modern Christianity.
I at one point was a devout catholic. That was 10 years, ago and I now consider myself agnostic. I worked in several programs and studies during my college studies and for my thesis, I spent a week in the Cincinnati Restoration Church. The CRC helps people struggling with addiction get off the street and into the service of god. My paper focused on the preachers in this church and there misinterpretations, misunderstands, or general lack of knowledge of biblical verses and ideas. It was astonishing to see how little these preachers knew. Mostly they were just exploiting addicts as a form of free labor, but that’s another story for another day.
The bottom line is the bible, when looked at from a modern stand-point has become an archaic and unreliable guide to life in today’s culture. Case in point; homosexuality. The bible is a very discriminatory book to begin with, and following its rules today would be akin to teaching history with a book from 1946. It was never a book of true stories to begin with. When the books of the bible were compiled (the largest sin of the christian church was the exclusion of the book of Mary Magdoline.) it was intended as guide. A moral compass if you will. It can still serve that purpose, as long as you do not try to match every situation in today’s world with a passage from the bible. but I digress.
We agree on the gays in football part of this so there is no need to bring that up.
As for your last musings, I’m not trying to see some dude’s dick or anything, but anyone who passed high-school gym should have no problem letting his privates hang out. I don’t care if a dude wants to go down on me, that’s his business. We see girls we would like to screw every day right?

first of all you blaspheme his name,then claim He’s not real, then studied theolgy in college( theology,the study of God).
If you studied you would know that sooner or later we would have to give an account for our lives,( I would cut and paste from the Bible but PFT wouldnt post it, I tried ) so to say that our Bible is “archaic” wouldn’t make sense, because, you know, you would have learned that during your studies.
But to get back to football, peoples personal live should make no bearing on what or how they preform on the field(especially Tom Brady). It ‘s what someone does on the gridiron is what is important….
But lets face it, there is alot of people who are just as uncomfortable getting undressed in front of a gay man as people who hate going to church singing praises to Him.

Just because some archaic book was printed thousands of years ago, doesn’t mean it has a baring on today’s society. It’s not like any of you actually understand anything more than 1/100 of what the bible says anyway.
I was a theology major in college (UK) and was involved in studies based on finding the percentage of Americans who even understood some of the basic language in the bible. You would be surprised to know, that its less that %2. Really, just one of you tell me what revelations means? You can’t because no one has a f’ing clue.
As for gay people, do you think the Patriots would get rid of Tom Brady if he was gay? If you do, you are stupid. Would Al Davis still have drafted DHB if he was a known packer? Yes, but that may have more to do with ol’ Al being a crazy ass bastard.
Its just that typical American “lets force our opinions and way of life on the rest of the world” view. Let gay people get married and boof each other all day long. It doesn’t effect you, so why bother.

Personal thought and religious preferance DO take precedence over freedom, because it is the purest form of freedom. Here in America, we have freedoms to follow dreams, passions regardless of reigion, gender or preferences. All I am doing isjust bringing up a point that one day, we will all die and face our Creator and give an account for things we have done, hence the invitation to all,gay, straight,black or white, whatever…..God is forgiving if we are willing to repent which I have done 14 yrs ago. First of all, toughness and homosexuality are not inversely proportional, so toughness of the game doesn’t have anything to do with sexual orientation.
Second of all, personal freedom takes precedence over “personal thought or religious preferences” seven days out of seven. That is to say that you’re certainly entitled to your personal thoughts and religious preferences, but that does not mean that other people should have to surrender personal freedoms to suit your religious tastes. For example, a Jew, Muslim, or even a conscientious vegetarian may feel that eating pork is a sin, much as you feel that homosexuality is a sin. Do you feel that eating pork should be a big no-no in America, or at NFL functions? I sure don’t. I think pork is disgusting, and would never eat it myself, but I’m not going to expect others to entirely surrender the freedom to eat the filthy animal, because it’s a freedom. By the same token, you should not expect others to surrender their freedom to be homosexuals, or to openly live homosexual lives, just because you believe that homosexuality is a sin.
Thirdly, you may want to realize that no man, even you, can say for certain whether your standard is higher than another man’s standard. A secular humanist has every bit as much moral standing as a religious person, and considering the histories of those two belief systems, secular humanism might actually have a better record. But secular humanism, religions, and all other belief systems are imperfect, and deeply so, because we as human beings are imperfect. As such, I would suggest that you consider your own imperfections before demanding that others to live according to standards you’ve established for your own imperfect belief system. Worry about the log in your own eye, in other words.
