The Oakland Raiders have announced the signing of rookie linebacker Travis Goethel. A sixth-round pick in April, Goethel is expected to focus on special teams during his first season.
He may also end up on the practice squad.
The former Arizona State Sun Devil was a three-year college starter, seeing most of his time at strong-side linebacker. Goethel received honorable mention All-Pac 10 accolades as a senior, recording seven tackles for loss and finishing third on the Sun Devils in stops.
In Oakland, Goethel will likely slot in behind Kamerion Wimbley. Wimbley is the Raiders’ projected starting strong-side linebacker.

Cool beans. Now let’s lock up Lamarr Houston and Rolando MacClain
Stop improving yourselves. As a PATS fan I want Oakland to suck as much as possible this year (Want that pick high).
Travis Goethel will also back up Rolando McClain, when he gets signed.
I was first to say it on PFT, back in april.. But w/ this new look Raiders team w/Jackson as OC , 10-6 is not out of range…
GO RAIDERS!!!
Hell yeah Anthony. When McClain gets signed, Raiders are going to the top of the division! I gotta say I feel sorry for the Donkey fans out there…
