Vikings fans visit Brett Favre in Hattiesburg

As if there were any doubt that Vikings fans want Brett Favre to return for his 20th NFL season, a group of them traveled from Minnesota to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to pay Favre a visit today.

That’s always nice,” Favre said after talking to the fans following his regular workout at Oak Grove High School. “That makes you feel good.”

The Vikings fans — whom the Hattiesburg American identifies as Todd Glocke, Darin Troftgruben, Diggz Garza and Herman Abrams — gave Favre a thank you card and talked to him for about 15 minutes.

It’s probably safe to say those fans will get a chance to see Favre on the field in Minnesota this year. But if they wanted to see him sweating through summer workouts, they were wise to head to Hattiesburg, and not count on seeing him at Vikings training camp.

    Pretty sad commentary regarding Viking fans. I realize that they are a desperate bunch eager to get a championship prior to their move to LA but don’t they realize that genuflecting and worshipping the God of INT’s is the job of the head coach, not them?
    I would say this is as low as they can go but there is a couple more levels before they hit groveling and begging, previously known as foreplay in the homes of Viking fans, at least those in hetrosexual relationship, a minority segment if there ever was one.

  19. Brad Miller says: Jul 16, 2010 2:31 PM

And how stupid you will look to the Packer fans for talking so much and not being able to back it up? It’s inevitable kids. Without Favre, your team is average at best. T-Jak will never lead you to the promise land.

  52. VikingsPrincess says: Jul 16, 2010 4:07 PM

    As a Vikings fan (of which there are more than 10, thank you), I feel this may be a little over the top. At least for me.
    Nevertheless, we are talking about a group of guys who are very passionate about the Vikings (their motorcycles are purple & gold, they’ve been season ticket holders for years & years, etc.) and as we all know, Brett gave us a hell of a season. Plenty of excitement & extraodinary performances. So, if it made the guys feel good to ride their bikes down to thank him and Favre enjoyed the visit, then I say good for everyone involved. Skol.

  53. Gregjennings85 says: Jul 16, 2010 4:13 PM

    Speaking of his ankle: Those photos from last year were purported to have been taken of HIS ankle. There was absolutely no visual evidence to support that (Immediately, almost defensively, Bus Cook said something to the effect of: Trust me, these are of Brett’s ankle) so I’m calling it now: They were fake.
    CHOKED against the Saints = Ankle
    CHOKED all year for the Jet = Arm
    CHOKED against the Giants = Too cold
    CHOKED against the Eagles = Aw shucks

    I agree wholeheartedly. The Vikings posters go on and on about how “we beat you twice last year…” as though that were the goal for the season. You are forgetting that the Vikings were supposed to win it all, and were only missing just that one special piece. I wanted those two victories for the Packers. I wanted the bragging rights that you are now flaunting…and I wanted them badly. You got them…good for you…I would be enjoying them too, but when Favre threw that game-changer, just as we knew he would…that leveled it all off. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, was sweeter than watching him go down in flames at your expense. We’re laughing last and we’re laughing best.

    Trust me, after 2 years of reading posts by the likes of you, I have absolutely no desire to ever be considered a Packer fan. Maybe I didn’t see it before because of the green and gold blinders, but honestly, the majority (not all) of Pack fans are ignorant, disrespectful, unappreciative jack asses, as evidenced by the 100+ replies on every single Favre related thread.

    You’re laughing best because you’re watching slow motion reruns of Aaron Rodgers with the game winning kick… right into the hands of the opponent. I gave him a “10” for creativity with that one.
    You Packer fans are something else. Hang on to the distant past, because that’s all you’ve got. Aaron Rodgers is in his 6th year. What does he have left? Maybe 8 years tops given how many hits he takes? You’re 4 – 5 years away from drafting his replacement.

    No one hates Brett — but we are endlessly amused and fascinated with the way he is playing this for his own purposes at the expense of Chilly and his team.
    There is a wall out there for a 41 year old QB (ask George Blanda or Warren Moon!), and Brett is going to hit it one of these days.
    In the meantime, enjoy the show — because the Vikings are doing NOTHING to prepare for that inevitable day when Brett reaches the endof the line.

    Packer fan logic. Vikings could lose the Super Bowl and the Packers go 0-16 but since the Vikings lost their last game later than the Packers, the Packers would of had the better season and the Packers fans get to laugh best. Brilliant!

    Let’s see now, who was the last QB to throw up an INT that just ripped the hearts out of the Viking fan base in the NFCCG? I really wish I could remember. Does anyone here know? Really, I just can’t remember. Oh wait. I think it’s coming back to me now. Why you know what, I think it was the same QB that threw up an INT that ripped out the heart of Packer fans in a NFCCG just 2 years prior. I also think it was the QB who tossed up an INT to keep the Jets out of the playoff the last season prior.
    I think.
    Ahhh, but he did win a SB for the Pack–oh wait, that doesn’t count, that was 14 years ago.

    You, very kindly, reiterated: “Rodgers took a hit that knocked him off his feet, had a guy hanging on his facemask, and he still had the presence of mind to try and keep a loose ball in play by getting a foot on it. A very athletic maneuver indeed.”
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Excellent. So, if I’m going to cut your QB some slack on this “very athletic maneuver”, perhaps we can stop talking about my QB’s interception in the NFCCG. After all, with a taped up ankle that he later had to have surgically repaired, Favre was repeating a throw on a broken play that had connected successfully the week before for 20 yards (you can find highlight videos of him rolling to the right and connecting with Sidney on NFL.com during the Cowboys’ game). Sometimes things just don’t work out… like trying to keep a ball in play during a playoff game using a foot that was connected to an uninjured ankle. For example.
    How would that be? We can stop talking about one of the mistakes made by the Vikings and one of the mistakes made by the Packers. That will leave us more time to debate other things.
    Since I don’t read about other teams outside the NFC North, I don’t know if other fans dislike each other as much as the Pack/Vikings. It makes me feel bad since the Pack have a great history and the Vikings are hoping to build theirs. I can’t forgive the Pack and their fans for their shameful treatment of Favre after he left. No, you do not have to cheer him, but some recognition for what he did would be nice. He sold millions of merchandise for the team and brought more fans out to the road trips too. Yes, the Pack did need to move on to Rodgers, but you don’t have to tear down Favre to support Rodgers. Thompson’s treatment of Favre before the trade was a disgrace. Dogs are treated better than that.
    Who’s a big time free agent, TO? How about Chester Taylor, was he a big time free agent? More often than not, a guy is a free agent because rightly or wrongly, a team wants rid of him. And more often than not, your big time free agent turns out to be Albert Haynesworth. Teams that are rebuilding are not where free agents want to go. Most of them want to play for a winner. Teams are built through the draft. Once you’ve got a complete team that is a contender, like New England, you can play with the free agent market. but this isn’t the 1990’s. there are no more Reggie White’s. The obsession of some fans with signing a “name” guy, a free agent whom they are already familiar with, is just the product of a lazy mind.
    Whereas the Pro Bowl free agents the Vikes have signed or traded for include Hutchinson, Winfield, Pat Williams, Jarred Allen, Brett Favre…
    That is why we had 8 Pro Bowlers last season and 4 All Pros, most in the NFL. You guys just don’t have enough good players to compete with us because Ted Thompson ONLY uses the draft to get players and he misses enough (Harrell, Hawk) that your team always has holes (O LIne, secondary).
