Joe Flacco: This year's Ravens team "is the best team I've been on"

J. flacco3.jpgEven Joe Flacco is buying the Ravens hype.

“I’m pretty excited, and I want to say it’s the best team I’ve been on,”
Flacco told Jamison Hensley of the Baltimore Sun on Saturday.

We like the Ravens’ offseason plenty, but it’s too early to say this group is any better than their last two playoff teams.  Flacco, however, puts stock in non-padded OTA practices.

“We’ve got the talent to go as far as we want to,” Flacco said. “It’s
about playing up to our capabilities. I think we’ve done that for the
most part.”

Flacco put in extra work during his time off the last few weeks by throwing to Anquan Boldin a few times and flying out to Arizona to toss the ball with Todd Heap.  That’s encouraging.

Ultimately, Flacco controls whether his words prove prophetic.  Adding Boldin was nice, but Flacco’s development ranks as the most important factor towards to determining whether the Ravens can make it back to the Super Bowl for the first time in a decade.

wow that saying a lot seeing as this is like you THIRD year!!!!!!!!!!

With training camp around the corner, Flacco will go through his normal preseason ritual. He will be flown to a castle in Transylvania, strapped to a table, and have clamps attached to the electrodes on the side of his neck. Joe will be ready to go with the first electrical storm.

  3. football spirit says: Jul 17, 2010 6:06 PM

From what I’ve seen, if he gets better protection this year accompanied Boldin, and Stallworth as a deep threat the Ravens could be a very entertaining to watch.

  4. steeler560 says: Jul 17, 2010 6:09 PM

Fallacio and the secondary will doom this team from getting too far in post season. He’s not quite there yet as a QB, need proof? Watch how he did against better defenses…

  5. Deb says: Jul 17, 2010 6:10 PM

Bless his heart … that’s kind of sweet coming from a guy who’s only played on two previous pro squads.
Definitely expect the ’10 Ravens to be much improved over last season. But if they’re better than their ’08 team, they’ll be contending for a Lombardi. Oh joy.

  6. Burning River says: Jul 17, 2010 6:11 PM

    Gregg…
You left out the word “Pee-Wee” in your headline.
It goes between “Best” and “Team.”
    You are welcome.

Superbowl loss to the Vikings for Flacco.

  9. SteelDawn85 says: Jul 17, 2010 6:15 PM

He’s been on 2 previous teams… I wonder if he’ll stand by that once the always underrated Bengals sweep the division again?

  10. BlitzburghGator says: Jul 17, 2010 6:23 PM

He probably thought he could eat out Tyler Palko in college too…
This guy sure is wrong alot.

  11. OJ SIMPSON says: Jul 17, 2010 6:23 PM

The Ravens are what the Jest want to be.
Except the Ravens handle their business with out all gum-flapping.

  13. BlitzburghGator says: Jul 17, 2010 6:25 PM

Just in case the mods edit my last post, that should read “thought he could beat out Tyler Palko”…….not “eat out Tyler Palko”.
Then again, both may well apply to Mr Flacco…

  14. Poo Flinging Monkey says: Jul 17, 2010 6:26 PM

What else is he going to say?
Flacco: I dunno, the 2008 team was better on defense…

  15. bobinpuertorico says: Jul 17, 2010 6:27 PM

Wow, an aged veteran like Flacco, who has played in the NFL for so many years, considers the Ravens to be the best team that he has been on. I understand that C.J. Spiller also believes that the Buffalo Bills are the best team that he has been on. This means we have two teams for the ages!

  16. steeltownpride says: Jul 17, 2010 6:28 PM

What is he going to say ? This is the worse team ive ever been on ? lol Talk is meaningless in the offseason . Lets wait till the hitting starts and the games count before we proclaim anything . Hopefully he got that unibrow taken care of .

  23. Nick says: Jul 17, 2010 6:55 PM

It’s not totally true that Flacco has to do better for the Ravens to win. Pittsburgh won in 2005 with the worst QB rating for a Super Bowl winner EVER, with Ben playing awful.
It does make it much easier though.

  24. jkiddrock says: Jul 17, 2010 6:56 PM

It’s his third year in the league.
    This is huge news.

  25. Free Ben 7 says: Jul 17, 2010 7:18 PM

  26. Dixon29 says: Jul 17, 2010 7:28 PM

    Shut up and play.

  27. sdloc619 says: Jul 17, 2010 7:28 PM

For someone who is only entering his 3rd season as a QB those are some meaningless words. Now if Lewis said it then I might be worried…. However, they will still win their division.

  28. habibfromnewdehli says: Jul 17, 2010 7:33 PM

Ummm, no it’s not. It might be the best OFFENSE he’s been on. But the overall 2008 Ravens were better than the overall 2010 Ravens.
Flacco better play his ass off this year to compensate for the horrible special teams and horrible secondary. The pass rush might be a tad better this year. But I’m not going to hold my breath.

  29. Randy1 says: Jul 17, 2010 7:39 PM

  30. 8man says: Jul 17, 2010 7:40 PM

All of Pittsburgh sucks a$$! Well all of it except for Kim Diulus…long story…
There was a time when the toothless masses gave Cleveland a hard way to go because their river caught on fire, despite the fact the air in Spittsburgh could have combusted at any time.
I’ll get to watch the Ravens roll them twice and my Patriots do it as well. Should be a good year, but no hurry, its still baseball season.
Though this story would have been better if Flacco had said something like, “We’re better than the Steelers. And we’ll beat them to prove it.”

And to even the score with all the incredibly bitter and always juvenile Steeler fans……Ben has issued a statement, to counteract Flacco’s statement….It reads…..”This is the the best team i have ever been suspended from” See….now everything is all better.

  37. 7370355q$ says: Jul 17, 2010 8:01 PM

    @habibfromnewdehli
Provide me with a statistic that would indicate that the ravens secondary is awful, even with adding two veteran corners this offseason, and 2 injured players who were out for most of the 2nd half last year coming ready to play in camp. I believe you’ll be hard pressed to find that stat.

  38. ccoolahan14 says: Jul 17, 2010 8:28 PM

Yet another anti-Raven PFT post. He’s not saying this based on what he’s seen in the offseason you idiots. He’s saying this based on the roster. Hey Gregg, why don’t you tell us how the Ravens are WORSE this year than they were in Flacco’s previous years? They are the exact same team, except they’ve added Boldin, Stallworth, Kindle, Cody, Dickson, Pitta, etc.

  41. MrONE50 says: Jul 17, 2010 8:48 PM

Joey Flacco Flame has been on 2 more NFL teams than any of you haters. So if the worst thing you can say about our QB, is that he has acomplished something twice that you never will, then he is in pretty good shape.

  42. BigOx says: Jul 17, 2010 8:54 PM

You haters amaze me. What the hell do you expect him to say? “oh yeah – I think my team blows donkey dick. i realize it’s tough when you are employed by Mike Brown, but this is the year win have two winning seasons in a row!” Or how about ” I did not have sexual intercourse in the bathroom with that woman!” Or even – Hell this is Cleveland, we’d be happy to go 500 a couple of years in a row.
Flacco has more tools to work with this year than ever. As much as I can’t stand the miscreant Ray Ray is soft, I will agree with him in this instance. It’s on Flacco. The third year tends to be when QB’s blossom and start to find their upper limit potential. We’ll find out this year just how good Joe Flacco can be.
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. If we can stay relatively healthy, we will go deep in the playoffs. Then Deb can be nauseous, RayRay is soft can commit suicide and Habib can finally go back to New Dehli. And finally my buddy Frank Burns can disappear forever.

lets make 2 things clear here:
ALL SHITSBURGH FANS: The Ravens defense was ranked 6th overall in passing defense last year. They gave up 5 LESS passing TD’s than the Steelers. They played significantly better the last 2 months of the season and that was with 2 starters injured! And no more Frank Walker to give away yardage on PI calls, so tell me how terrible our secondary is now?
and Flacco has taken the Ravens to the playoffs 2 years in a row. with Derrick Mason. and Todd Heap. No other WR or TE ANYBODY would take on their team. Dude has weapons now. Say what you want about Stallworth and Boldin. The AFC will be eating their words soon enough…

One thing is for certain. The AFC North is going to be the most competative divison in the NFL. With the Football season right around the corner it amazes me how vile and embarassing some people are about this sport and the men who PLAY IT!! I love Football, PeeWee, High School, College, Pro, etc. I root for my favorite teams and enjoy watching the competition at all aspects. What I have never figured out is how people can rip at these players, good, bad or whatever. I hope The Ravens win the Super Bowl this Year. Just because it will tear at the souls of all this negativity. Flacco Believes its the best team he’s been on O.K. I bet there is a Detroit Lion player who thinks His team is better this year also. He could be a rookie or a 10 year vet. Is that so bad? My question to you all is, What team, which player, GM, or owner are you gonna rip next year when there might not be any Football…. Just love the sport and enjoy the play!!

  71. golongboyee says: Jul 18, 2010 10:28 AM

of course, as is MOST of the time, the PFT idiots miss the point. The point ISNT that this is only his third year so saying this is the best team means little………ah……….NO. The fact is, the teams his first 2 years have been pretty good…so…….the fact that he thinks this is the maybe the best DOES mean something given their production.
I would love to see the results of an IQ test of the majority of PFT posters becasue it is pretty obvious it would be laughably low!

  73. Danwhitmer says: Jul 18, 2010 10:41 AM

As soon as I seen the title of this post I knew the idiots would be posting! I am sure the “question” was posed to him and he was not spouting off at the mouth like most players in the NFL. Anyone who has watched Flacco over the past 2 years sees he is not like that.
Ray Lewis has 2 kids by the same woman, So who ever it was who said he has many babies momma’s and should knock up Joes mom is and idiot….
Finally I am not sure WHY anyone would leave them out of playoff talk… I am never one to predict Super Bowl and honestly Playoffs due to injury’s during the season. BUT they have been there the past 2 years ( under Flacco ) and even though he played bad in the playoffs which he needs to improve he does have a 4 – 2 record in the Playoffs with the winds in 08′ all coming on the road ….. Until a team that made the playoffs the prior year is knocked out then i do not discount them!
PS: Those of you Bengal fans who seriously think you will go 6-0 in the Div. again should get your heads straightened out! Remember you beat the Ravens twice BUT by 13 total points. There is not much room for error there. Oh and tell Chad Johnson to shut up, He obviously does not know what he is talking about and will be a cancer in your locker room when you start the season 2 – 4!

Of course houshmanzadeh sucked with the hawks they didn’t have any weapons to surround him with to take the coverage off of him. That is the classic reason i hear that boldin won’t succeed with the ravens even though he succeeded without fitz with jeff blake at quarterback!!!

  77. ppdoc13 says: Jul 18, 2010 11:46 AM

@Deb – nothing against you kiddo, you are my favorite Steelers fan. But if the Ravens win, I’d expect you would be as unhappy as I am when I watch Roethlisberger elude someones sack and throw another game winning freaking TD.
What bothers me is the guys acting like Flacco is breaking some kind of rule. He didn’t disrespect anyone. He made a statement that he expects his team to do well if they play to their ability. What the hell does anyone expect him to say.
He’s not like Chad Johnson (i refuse to call him ochocinco) who is a loud mouth moron and says everyone sucks. He is a hard working guy who wants to win. And this is his third and we shall see if he has the cojones to step up and become one of the top 5 qb’s in the NFL. If he does the Ravens are rolling around like pigs in shit for the next ten years with a franchise QB. If not, back to the drawing board.

No problem ;) No, I didn’t see disrespect in Flacco’s comment either. It was an honest perspective. Kinda sweet because he hasn’t been around long, but as golongboyee says, he’s been on good teams during his short tenure. I still think the 08 Ravens were the second best team in the league that year. If this one’s better … yikes!
My adoration of Rod Woodson and delight at seeing him pick up a much-deserved ring soothed the pain of your first SB win. I probably wouldn’t be thrilled for the Ravens to win another, but better them than the Pats or #85. I’m with you on that guy.

Just curious who you are a fan of….. Because if it is a NFL football team then you have NO room to talk about criminals on another team.
Ray Lewis was not charged with murder or even suspision of murder. All he was charged with was tampering with evidence. You also need to brush up on your stallworth knoledge. You obviously do not know the entire story there either….
I am just curious, where are the Ravens any older on defense then any one else ? Reed is 30 and will be 31 before the end of the year, The defensive line is young with the exception of Pryce, and the secondary is the youngest it has been in years……. Oh and the backer position is getting younger as well….. so please tell me who the old farts are that I am missing ?

@Danwhitmer – Please read my earlier post more carefully, Sir.
    ———————————————-
“Browns cast-off and drunken vehicular homicider Donte Stallworth makes the Ratbirds better?!?! LFMAO!!!!
I guess Stallworth and fellow criminal/accused murderer Ray Lewis will become best friends and swap crime storys.”
    ————————————————-
Do notice you I said “ACCUSED MURDERER”. I did not call him a murderer. I know fully well that he tampered with evidence, which is a crime a hence the label “criminal” get attached.
Regarding Donte Stallworth, as a Browns fan, I am fully aware of what he did. He ran over and killed a pedestrian while legally drunk after a night of partying. YES the pedestrian had no business crossing a high speed divided highway late at night…..but still it does not change the fact the Donte was drunk when he ran over the dude.
Even on the field Donte never did anything of consequence for the Browns while he was with them, so I was not sad to see him cut (Yes, I am a life-long Browns fan)
Yes the Browns have 2 players that faced misdemeanor gun charges, so you don’t need to mention that, I did that for you.
Hope you are a little more clear on my previous post now.

hey ray ray is soft. i am just paying back go long boyee and ravensmuscle for always coming over to the cleveland post and running there mouth. and to correct you my father was from baltimore. and when i met my family from baltimore at 22 they took me on a tour of the city and should me the good and bad. there was alot more bad then good i can tell you that. baltimore should know what it is like to have your team stolen . it hurts to watch your team be stolen and win a superbowl and then giving an expansion team who hasnt really ever did anything. my anger comes from the fact the browns were stolen from cleveland and move to baltimore. finding my biological father living in baltimore as a ravens fan didnt help matters. but 85% of my anger comes from cleveland being stolen from us

  92. Ray Ray is soft says: Jul 19, 2010 1:08 AM

You can walk anywhere as long as you carry yourself with respect? While that may be true. But if you go somewhere and no one knows you or at least see you around. You either getting robbed or worst. With the fake Bloods and Crips around here,no one is really safe.As for Brownsfan.I understand where you coming from.I’m a Redskins fan that lives in Baltimore.Try wearing a skins jersey down the harbor.

Oh, that’s right. And the city of Cleveland is such a beautiful city with zero crime rate, zero drugs, and free money for all who need it. Not to mention the ladder in the middle of the city that takes you straight to Candyland!!!! America should be so lucky to have their cities modeled after Cleveland.
    @Ray Ray is soft:
Isn’t it interesting how we hate you, but you don’t hate us? My friends, who are redskins fans, bring that up all the time. Then I tell them to suck it.

  94. guitarkevin says: Jul 19, 2010 1:02 PM

All this hate for Flacco and the Ravens only proves that people know they are going to be a tough team to beat.

  95. CurseofBoJackson says: Jul 19, 2010 1:54 PM

I would just like to point out a complete lack of Bengals fans trolling this comments section making snide, negative and asinine remarks. I will likely ride a high horse about it for the duration of the pre and regular season.
On task, I tend to agree with Flacco, and most Ravens fans. This year you have a squad (not that you haven’t in the past) that has every opportunity to continue and possibly build on the very recent success of the franchise (hold your horses gun jumpers, I didn’t say the very recent past was the ONLY success the franchise has had). AFCN would be a scary place if the Steelers or Browns had a shot. (Sorry PItt, just don’t see it).

@ Deb…. I never once mentioned anyone having their souls ripped out. I said, as you so eloquently quoted “Souls of all this negativity”.. Hoping that maybe a few on here would understand that People are inherently good, its just being overwhelmed by negativity and hate that hides the good!! Evidently you are not able to concieve of such deep understanding.
Yes Love(sp) the game, root for your favorite team. However, how about some Sportsmanship and respect also….. Dallas fan, Pittsburgh fan, Seattle fan, etc. I will sit with anyone and watch a game. Just check your feelings at the door please!!

  97. letsgonattyjoe says: Jul 19, 2010 2:46 PM

Wow, I’m excited about football and this Ravens team looks fun to watch, but some of you guys take this stuff too seriously.
At the end of the day these are millionaires who are conducting buisness. They don’t give much of a damn about us. They put a good entertaining product out on the field and I love to watch them do it. To attack someone elses class, and home city over a comment made by the quarterback of that city’s football team is laughable and frankly a bit disturbing. Go home, hug your mom, and be thankful that we ALL live in a great country together where we can enjoy such a great sport. Sheesh, after reading some of the crap you guys spew… I feel a little sick.
    Deb,
I always enjoyed your level headed comments last year. It’s fun to discuss football with like-minded fans, even if you do root for the steelers. Good luck to you guys this season.
    Go Ravens!

  98. Deb says: Jul 19, 2010 3:30 PM

    @letsgonattyjoe …
Thanks so much!! I feel the same about discussing the game with good fans of every team. Good luck to you guys as well–though I think the stars are already aligned in your favor. I’m starting to get that tingling feeling. I’m sooo ready for some football!!
    Go Steelers!

This is the most complete Ravens team EVER. If Flacco progresses under Zorn like I expect him to and we stay healthy, then we will be the best team in football. Write it down.

  100. Deb says: Jul 19, 2010 5:21 PM

    @It$footballdamnit …
Your name is new to me, so perhaps you did land on this thread blissfully unaware that Ravens fans also direct vile and embarrassing things at fans of other AFC North teams. If your post was sincere, please excuse my cynicism regarding your lecture on the vile and embarrassing behavior of all other fans in the division … and how the solution is for YOUR team to win the Super Bowl because that will tear the soul out of all this negativity. That just seemed more self-serving than sportsmanlike.
In case this is the first PFT thread you’ve seen, let me clue you in: Every team has its share of jackasses, mine and yours included. Having someone make fun of your QB’s unibrow is NOT the most vile and embarrassing thing that’s been said on PFT. And we are ALL here because we LOVE the game. (Yes, I do know how to spell “LOVE.” I was being facetious.)
Sorry if you were trying to be genuine and I rained on the parade. But if you stick around PFT, be aware that the banter on this thread has been mild. I expect the Ravens to be very good this year and hope it will be a great injury-free season for all. But if you win the Super Bowl, do NOT expect the negativity to end. Winning makes it worse. Ask the Saints. Disgruntled Vikes will torment them until the end of days.

Ravens Fans ” Flacco took us to the playoffs the past 2 years”!
What a Raven fan really means to say…” Flacco cannot get the job done”! Us Raven fans are proud to go to the playoffs and watch other teams win the Super Bowl. As long as we have Flacco, we will be in the playoffs, but thats about it. So proud we are of Flacco, hes an elite QB that gets us to the playoffs. Thats all we pay him for. No need to get to the Super Bowl right? We are MIGHTY Ravens fans that wear the Purple with pride and passion. Besides, someone has to have a fan base that constantly brags about getting to the playoffs and coming up short! Don’t mind the fact we are really the old CLEVELAND BROWNS, we are Purple people eaters that make the playoffs. Our city is full of championships, No seriously… We have a guy that makes Cakes thats on TV. Real men we are in Baltimore!
Did I mention that Flacco took us to the playoffs? ….

@wegot6doyou – you sir have the personality of a used condom. The BALTIMORE Colts were winning championships before the Pigsburg Squealers were a football team. So the city of Pigsburg has 6 while we in Bmore have 4. But then again, you have to live in Pigsburg or cheer for a QB who is a sexual predator. I’ll stick with the purple.

  103. Wegot6doyou says: Jul 19, 2010 8:20 PM

PPdoc… Ironically you would mention condom when your name starts with PP??
Yet alone 13? Is that the age group in which you look for?
I believe Baltimore is a waste land for football fans. You get the left overs, no originality what so ever. EX, Colts, Browns.
As far as our QB situation is concerned… Call the DA’s office in Georgia and tell them you have the evidence needed to charge Ben of any wrong doing. Well PP, IM done playing with you now.
