Someone stated above that the agent gets 3% of the contract. Not sure what “MIO” is as that person stated, but last year’s #18 pick got 9.7 mil guaranteed on a 18.3 mil deal. Even if he only gets the guaranteed money, that’s $291k (not 100k as stated). Add in the fact that this year’s salary will be slightly higher, and he has a twin brother that would be likely to sign with the same agent next year, it seems like a pretty decent business decision to “secretly” give him or his family $100k (whether it is a loan or not).
Now the real question is what does this do to the Sugar Bowl record? Do the Bearcats win by forfeit?

tatum32…..the game against Seattle was admittedly a “pig of a game” (to paraphrase Alexi Lalas re: Netherlands/Spain). However, the Steelers were the better team that day. Seattle had an awful performance.
1. The offensive pass interference call in endzone was called by myself and at least 3-5 other people directly around me and we were watching in 2nd level of that endzone….He CLEARLY pushed off.
2. Ben’s TD….the tip of the football CLEARLY MET the start of the goalline (all that you need)
3. Hasselbeck….there was a penalty on him that was bogus but I can’t remember it….that was the one call against Seattle…..
The 2005 Steelers will go down as the first 6 seed to advance and win the Super Bowl, and they did it the hard way beating the #3, #1 and #2 seeds in AFC and #1 seed in NFC.
ALL of the holdings were just that. The reason for the public outcry is that they came during critical plays and the general public wants a close Super Bowl…..Just think, the Colts had no answers for a dominant blitzing Steelers scheme and Peyton was sacked relentlessly and forced to throw his offensive line under the bus 3 wks earlier.

NCAA may be over playing its hand with this…players should start going to attorneys and counter suing the NCAA. This has nothing to do with their pro life, and the investigations shouldve happened WHEN THE PLAYER currently played. You have a few dozen libel suits and the NCAA will cut this NONSENSE out. – when guys havent even started their pro careers, this punishes them. It also forces even more players to leave early. What is the NCAA doing???????

You are absolutely correct(I hate to admit;), and I am saying this as a Browns fan. This problem is with the NCAA and the University of Florida. I’m sure the Steelers were not aware of this issue when they drafted Pouncey and will not affect his play with the Steelers. People should not get so worked up about it.

Anytime posts are directed at $$ analysis/breakdowns, etc., you unfortunately see a “dumbing down” of the posters on blogs, and profootball.com is not immune to this very annoying fact.
One of two facts is crystal clear from such posters:
1. They aren’t quite qualified to speak of such monetary analysis because it would require abstract analytical thinking…..ya know, higher level brain processes than those from lower levels of the cerebral cortex, where emotion and criticism reside.
2. They are extremely jealous and bitter of the prolonged success of the greatest franchise in professional sports……….a franchise where 9-7 is regarded an epic failure, not only by its own fanbase, but by its fiercest rivals.

not really a surprise to me to hear this… both of the pounceys played here in polk county at lakeland high school and its looked at as a major high school power house and churns out tons of college players and its been suspected for years the coach,etc.. does whatever it takes to secure top players so a player taking a payment falls along the same lines… im sure these guys are even getting paid or getting major perks in high school as well

@afiresnake, it’s not uncommon for agents to advance money to players before they get drafted, or after they’re drafted but not yet signed to a contract. It’s just that it’s not supposed to be until after their college playing career is over. As for the money itself, as I said, it tends to be an advance which is repaid when the money starts rolling in. The repayment of advances is separate from and unaffected by the agent’s cut.

I dont think the common folk does not care if they all die at age 45. Heck we get all worked up when a baseball owner dies or a college basketball coach or a NFL head coach who has not worked in years…. Plus the NFL can be exciting without everyone juiced.
Add to it the fact that we care when certain teams “win all the time” because they buy the best players. So if college can at least make it difficult for this to happen, this common folk perfers that.
As for the bad deal for the agent. If he wouldn’t get the player without the $100K, then its a good deal because he got the player. The more players you have, the better chance you have of having a big money deal. Having success with the players in your portfolio, the more players you can get later. Can’t have success if you dont have players. So paying 100K to land this guy could land to other players later. Thus more deals. And there is also the possibility that the $100K gets paid back to some degree. Either in cash or a willingness to recruit other players to the agents firm.
Or
Buy 1 lottery ticket have one chance to win Millions. Buy 10 lottery tickets a greater chance of winning.

dabarber is right, no one really cares, and when they do, is only when sanctions affect a rival of their favourite team. Even if the players are getting paid they still have to play the game. I agree dabarber, let them juice, get paid, use HGH, and whatever else. They are all going to anyways, and you’re simply naive if you think otherwise.
