Marvin Lewis’ impending “lame duck” season continues to be one of the more underreported stories during a time of year media hacks like us make mountains out molehills.
We haven’t heard any updates on the situation since the Scouting Combine, but Lewis confirmed Tuesday that talks are ongoing.
“Mike [Brown] and I at some point hopefully come to an agreement from both sides of us and we all feel good about,” Lewis said, according to Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “We have spoken about the contract a few times since then but we don’t talk about it daily. That’s not me to worry about it or bring it up. I don’t go about it that way.”
Coming off a playoff season, Lewis has plenty of leverage. It’s possible that he’s hoping to push changes in the organization through as part of a new deal. If Lewis gets to the regular season without a contract, we wonder if “coaching free agency” will be too tempting to pass up.
“I would love to continue to coach here,” Lewis said. “I think every year is a new challenge, a new start and hell we’ve got Ocho.”
That’s a reason to stay?
