In May, a report emerged that the Cardinals are concerned about the back of linebacker Gerald Hayes. A source with knowledge of the situation claimed that Hayes was fine.
If he was fine at the time, his condition thereafter deteriorated.
Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports that Hayes underwent back surgery over the summer, and that he is not expected to practice when training camp opens.
Coach Ken Whisenhunt acknowledged that Hayes underwent “a procedure” and that he’ll be evaluated when players take physicals before camp opens. Hayes apparently will land on the physically unable to perform list.
