Jason Shirley remains property of the Bengals

As expected, no one claimed the contract of Bengals offensive lineman Jason “I Am Serious, And Don’t Call Me” Shirley, who recently was waived with the designation “non-football injury.”

Shirley suffered an Achilles’ tendon injury while playing basketball in April, and he won’t play in 2010.

He has been placed on the non-football injury list.  The Bengals have the option to pay his base salary of $395,000.  We’d be shocked if the Bengals opted to do so.

Shirley remains under contract through 2011.  He joined the team via round five of the 2008 draft.

Shirley is a beast, he was injured playing basketball with other pro athletes, raising money for charity. Stuff happens! He is a work in progress that should turn out quite good for the team (or any team for that matter) in the near future.

did this guy even play last year? WOW…shocking news!

No whodeyz, he was practice squadded after Mikey’s brilliant demand that he try movig from DT to OT. Just curious, the “Shirley you jest” jokes are funny I to some of you I guess? Honestly, that is more lame than the Seinfield references and countless other piss poor attempts at humor by the writers and commenters alike.

You sure the L.A. Jags didn’t come in snatch him up like the dirt bags they are ?

CurseofBoJackson- It wasnt “Mikey’s demand” for him to move from DT to OT. Hard Knocks showed that it was Paul Alexander’s idea to move him to OT. Mikey had nothing to do with it.

Shirley if he recovers will be 1 hell of an OG in 2 years….IN the preseason and on Hard Knocks went out after the switch and was PANCAKING olinemen….He is raw but PHYSICAL…..Stay up Jason and committ to workin your ass off hard to come back….
At least you will get a practice squad salary while you are there….Thats like 70-80K to be with the team for 1 season….while you are rehabbing….

They should pay him since he WAS doing charity work in the name of the Bengals.
And, this guy is a physical specimen. He just knocks D-Linemen around like he is playing with Highschoolers.

@ Football, you’re wrong. It was Mikey’s opinion on Hard Knocks to move him there. I remember the shocked look on thier faces when he threw that out there. Just like when Mikey asked if there was anyone on the defense that had good hands and could be moved to tight end!!
