Steelers place Willie Colon on IR, sign Adrian Jones

As expected, the Steelers have placed tackle Willie Colon on injured reserve, following a torn Achilles’ tendon suffered during offseason workouts.

Though the team flirted with Flozell Adams as a replacement, Adams wanted too much money.

Instead, the Steelers have added a veteran with a lower NFL “Q” rating — Adrian Jones.

Jones, a fourth-round pick in 2004 of the Jets, started 44 games before being cut late in the 2007 season, Eric Mangini’s first second year as head coach.  Jones started 10 games with the Chiefs in 2008, and he was out of the league in 2009 after being cut by the Texans in training camp.

I hope the Pittsburgh cops are ready for this one.
After this news hits the Steelers fanbase, they are going to be absolutely flooded with dog-kicking and wife-beating calls.

    Burning River,
I think they are too busy pimping for Ben.

Are you sure he’s qualified to be a steeler? You didn’t mention an arrest record.

  8. aec4 says: Jul 21, 2010 6:02 PM

The steelers would have been better off just playing Colon, torn achilles and all.

  9. Wallacej says: Jul 21, 2010 6:11 PM

This guy couldn’t make it with the Jets, Chiefs, or Texans. Forget this bum, just stick one of the TE’s in there and call it a day.

  10. TheSleepness says: Jul 21, 2010 6:44 PM

2006 was Mangini’s first year as Jets coach.

I love how Bengal fans always have an opinion about what the Steelers do. Do take a look at the success your pathetic team has had since 68. Oh wait, there is no such offering.

  13. ingreenmts says: Jul 21, 2010 7:21 PM

Adrian Jones? All the Steelers qbs better get used to seeing the ground.

  18. bgnflfann says: Jul 21, 2010 9:42 PM

This guy is the worst nfl tackle ever. He missed his assignment in a jets game against NE, gave them a free shot on pennington who missed the rest of the year. Ben’s accuser will love this guy!

  19. rollli1967 says: Jul 21, 2010 9:45 PM

Eric Mangini thought this guy was crap and released him. He is only a band-aid at RT. Immobile Byron Leftwich, and of course Worthlessburger once he comes back will be running for their lives. Squeeler QB’s will had better get used to turf being rammed into their visors.

Yada, yada, yada … All of you EXPERTS have an opinion and SB winning GM Colbert and a savvy ownership have an opinion.
Uhh, if you don’t mind, I think I’ll trust Colbert and the Rooneys on this unknown.

Who placed a Willie in Florio’s Colon? He probably like that.
Time of another sweep of the AFC North boys!

  22. yoyage says: Jul 22, 2010 7:29 AM

Colon sucked anyway..good ridance, how can his replacement…whoever it ends up being…be any worse??

Maybe this move will help the Steelers get 2nd place in the WHOLE AFC , just like the Ravens did the past 2 seasons….I’m sooooo jealous!

  27. Blast Furnace says: Jul 22, 2010 8:52 AM

Here is a funny thought – the Ravens, the Bengals and the Browns have 1 Superbowl championship combined. ONE!!! You wear your jealousy on your sleeves fellas. Sad, really.

  28. steelcurtaind says: Jul 22, 2010 9:09 AM

this cat wont even make the roster and he will be lucky to be on the practice squad. Pitt always does SOOOOOO MUCH better when everyone thinks they are going to suck.
05 – no one figured they were going to win the SUPERBOWL
08 – coming off Tomlins first season getting their ass handed to them by the JAGS twice! Another year older, blah blah ,blah turns into another RING!
10- Holmes gone, Willie P gone, Ben raping bitches, O line is out = ??? At least a AFC NORTH TITLE! Bank on it bitches. Da Burgh THRIVES in troubled times. Just makes em work harder. Watch out as that D fense is REAL HEALTHY on top of getting MCFADDEN BACK! best pick of the 10 draft. Plus POUNCEY’s gotta an extra 100 K

  29. utteke says: Jul 22, 2010 10:54 AM

    Blast Furnace,
Thanks for pointing out that none of the Cleveland Championships were won during the steroid era. That just makes them that much more impressive that they didn’t have to cheat to get them.
For those of you saying Colon sucked I have to laugh. He might not be all pro but he was the best O-Lineman that team had. Your QB’s are going to be running for their lives. It’s going to be fun to watch!

  30. i'm president charlie! says: Jul 22, 2010 11:46 AM

@utteke – i guess they only had steroids in pittsburgh @ that time…herp de derp derp derp

  31. Blast Furnace says: Jul 22, 2010 11:52 AM

Just when you didn’t think the haters could get any more embarrassingly funny, they pull out the “championships” they won when the league had like 13 teams and played “championship” games on one of the team’s home field. Compare it if you have to (& of course, you have to, because what else does Cleveland have to offer) – but, that’s even sadder than the blatant jealousy evident in these comments, utteke. PATHETIC!

Listen special ED, Willie was a RIGHT tackle. Left tackle gives pass protection. I think it sucks are run is going to be affected (will still do it better than cleveland btw) but this dribble about QB protection is pointless. Max Starks is the L.OT

  33. SeaSteel says: Jul 22, 2010 5:56 PM

    @ utteke
Nice one, shortbus. The Browns did indeed win NFL championships but you haven’t done DICK in the Super Bowl era. Wish you guys could get it together. I enjoy Steeler/Raven and Steeler/Bengal ravalries.

  34. SeaSteel says: Jul 22, 2010 6:43 PM

    @ fan15062
Thanks for that. Although, since your post contained thought and humility. You may be on the wrong site.

I like Tomlin but he is way off base giving Leftwich all the snaps. I saw Dennis Dixon play in college and mangle a good USC team including throwing a 60 yard pass on the money from his back foot. He is fast and elusive and can drive opposing defenses crazy. Leftwich moves like a PSU QB SLOW SLOW SLOW and with Colon down, Starks can’t do it all by himself. Wise up Mike, if not for the Steelers Dixon is eventually going to start in this league and have a success career. Byron, you are a nice guy but I’m wishing for a medium grade injury so Dennis can get his chance. You have nothing to lose. Charley Batch is still here.
