Dez Bryant deal is done

The Dallas Cowboys have announced that receiver Dez Bryant has agreed to terms.

And, yes, the e-mail from the Cowboys came through just as we were posting the blurb about the strong indications that the deal is done.

As a result, agent Eugene Parker represented the last first-rounder to sign in 2009 (receiver Michael Cratbree), and he represented the first first-rounder to sign in 2010.

UPDATE:  Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the contract covers five years, with a base value of $11.8 million and $8.5 million guaranteed.  As often has been the case, the actual numbers could be a bit softer.

  2. karl says: Jul 22, 2010 6:57 PM

you mean first first rounder. plenty of ‘guys’ have already signed contracts with their respective teams.

  3. Hap says: Jul 22, 2010 6:58 PM

Now what is Florio gonna do to try and upset The Cowboy applecart ?

  4. Quest For Six says: Jul 22, 2010 7:00 PM

You can knock the Cowboys on a few things but contract negotiations is not one of them. They do this better than almost any team in the league.

  5. Bona Fide says: Jul 22, 2010 7:01 PM

    I’m saying 5 years, $16M, $9M guaranteed.

  7. jdg605 says: Jul 22, 2010 7:05 PM

And all you haters said he was gonna be just like michael crabtree. Cowboys will have the best receiving corps in the league in 2010!

  8. rolandthegunslinger says: Jul 22, 2010 7:07 PM

Good job by the Cowboys front office for getting this done and out of the way. Now to get the rest of the draft class under contract in time for camp.

  9. NashvilleCowboysFan says: Jul 22, 2010 7:07 PM

HAHAHAHA, and cue the Cowboys Haters. For all those who thought that this deal wouldn’t get done or would be drawn out, you can suck it.

  10. jjared1101 says: Jul 22, 2010 7:08 PM

Great..now what the hell are we going to talk about? I guess we’re on Favre WOWTCH for the remainder of the training camps.

  13. pedey01 says: Jul 22, 2010 7:11 PM

Hopefully this leads to more deals with 1st round picks! For the record, I’m calling Dez Bryant being a major bust in the NFL. Guess we’ll find out in a few years

  14. wope says: Jul 22, 2010 7:12 PM

Awesome. Now when he’s a bust, retarded Cowboy fans can’t use him being late to TC as an excuse.

  16. TheToolofTools says: Jul 22, 2010 7:14 PM

We’ll see if this guy is all as advertised.

  17. bigrig says: Jul 22, 2010 7:15 PM

This was the perfect team for him to go to. With all of their weapons, he doesn’t have to be the savior.
DC’s all over the league gonna lose lots of sleep trying to find a way to stop that high powered Dallas attack.

  18. oyoy84 says: Jul 22, 2010 7:16 PM

    holla!

  19. roscoe says: Jul 22, 2010 7:16 PM

So much for him being this year’s Michael Crabtree and being a diva, huh Florio? Stick to reporting and stop speculating….douche bag.

  20. fan62 says: Jul 22, 2010 7:16 PM

This can’t be right? Wasn’t it Florio saying a few days ago that Bryant would not be around for the first part of camp, and that was the death-knell for the Cowboy’s season? What happened Florio? Was it just the Cowboy’s hate shining through again, or did this come from one your most trusted informants?
Please let us know how you completely screwed this one up.

  21. Bucket says: Jul 22, 2010 7:17 PM

Wow! I’m actually shocked considering the circumstances.

  22. Bob Nelson says: Jul 22, 2010 7:18 PM

A lot of other guys have signed. Why do you indicate this is the first guy to sign?

  23. Charisma says: Jul 22, 2010 7:21 PM

Maybe Parker learned from last year…
I bet he’s one of the Dooshers who pimp college athletes.

  24. This is not news says: Jul 22, 2010 7:21 PM

    Grats Cowboys fans.

  25. doe22us says: Jul 22, 2010 7:22 PM

Parker needed to do this his reputation took a hit with the Crabtree clusterf..k

  26. Catamount says: Jul 22, 2010 7:24 PM

he will be bitching for a new deal in a year. Chris Johnson showed the prima donnas how it is done.

  27. BigShorty says: Jul 22, 2010 7:26 PM

I bet you guys that badtalked him bout “wanting” to much money (even tho he never once said how much he wanted) feel pretty stupid now huh???

  28. bigrig says: Jul 22, 2010 7:27 PM

With Austin and Bryant split wide, who do you double? Oh, don’t forget Witten underneath moving the chains. Or Felix, yeah don’t forget to cover Felix, but just not with a linebacker because that won’t work.
And don’t even think about blitzing. Unless you’re looking to give up a quick six.

  29. Big Tex says: Jul 22, 2010 7:27 PM

So now let’s hear from all the naysayers who were predicting a long hold out.

  30. Wordsworth says: Jul 22, 2010 7:29 PM

Good, now we can get the kid into camp and let the position battle begin. Now the other first rounders are going to be dropping like dominoes and signing.

  31. Bigdaddy237 says: Jul 22, 2010 7:29 PM

So I guess all the haters were wrong! Lee should sign tomorrow and the whole team will be ready for training camp.

  32. edgy says: Jul 22, 2010 7:29 PM

I bet all the “Eugene Parker is scum” turds won’t show up here to say that they were wrong about his client holding out.

  33. downwithdansnyder says: Jul 22, 2010 7:33 PM

I smell at bigger than though, incentive laden, deal. At least if they were smart. IF he’s what they think he is, then pay him. IF he’s not then limit the exposure under the yet to be knows salary cap rules.

  34. perryplayer440 says: Jul 22, 2010 7:35 PM

Glad Dez wasn’t a huge diva like Crabtree

  35. BigMikeSkinsFan says: Jul 22, 2010 7:42 PM

    Dez holding out for a new deal in… 3, 2, 1…. 2012 – over/under?

  39. Chapnasty. says: Jul 22, 2010 7:56 PM

Hey Florio, how badly did it hurt when you had to write this article? All that preaching about his hold out and this and that laced with your hatred for the Cowboys and he is the first… let me repeat… the first 1st round draft pick signed. Go pick the Skins to win the Superbowl again.

  40. EG says: Jul 22, 2010 7:56 PM

you mean the first first-rounder to sign in 2010

  41. biggiep says: Jul 22, 2010 7:58 PM

I feel comfortable saying this even as a Niner fan: for all the jokes people made about Dez going to hold out like Crabtree, that was never realistic. Euguene Dumbass Parker had egg all over his face last year after that massive failure of a holdout, so much that he even ducked the press conference following Crabtree’s signing. I’m surprised he wasn’t fired after that, and there was sure as hell no way he would try that again so soon with Dez Bryant,

  42. KM91 says: Jul 22, 2010 8:05 PM

Dez is first, who would’ve thought it possible?

  43. dladd08 says: Jul 22, 2010 8:07 PM

    GO COWBOYS!!!

  44. Slder78 says: Jul 22, 2010 8:13 PM

I can imagine the conversation between Bryant and parker. “I want to sign now.”
    “but…..”
“shut up Parker. You’re MY bi—!”

  45. ftcsubs says: Jul 22, 2010 8:14 PM

whats the difference between this year and last year for dez’s draft position. seems like alot of money for the 24th position

  46. Mike says: Jul 22, 2010 8:34 PM

Eugene probably tried too hard to get the deal done to lift the stigma that was left on him from Crabtree’s holdout

  47. cidy says: Jul 22, 2010 8:36 PM

Am I imagining things. Not too long ago weren’t the great PFT prognosticators saying Dez Bryant was going to be this year’s Crabtree, possibly holding out into the season.
Getting paid to suck is easier than getting paid to predict.

  48. sabotslugs43 says: Jul 22, 2010 8:56 PM

  51. seals says: Jul 22, 2010 9:22 PM

Wow, Dez surprised me on this one. I had him pegged as the next 49er d bag from last year. Dallas, G Bay and Minn are the best three teams in the NFC. One will make it to the show no question. Simmer down saints douchers, that bs mug show won’t work two seasons in a row.

Now come on, Chris Johnson WAY OUTPLAYED that contract.
If his owner were Jerry Jones, he would admit this and give him a new one.
This is one thing Jones has learned, you have a guy that plays lights out and outplays his contract, you don’t wait for it to become a problem, you start the process of getting him a better contract yourself.
If Bryant outplays this rookie contract, you can bet Jones will give him a better one.

    “Dez holding out for a new deal in… 3, 2, 1…. 2012 – over/under?”
Right, because if there’s something that the Cowboys are known for besides not getting their first rounders signed, it’s players holding out on a current contract for a new one.
Can you name the last Cowboys player that held out games for a new deal? I can.

Considering that Roy Williams won’t be with the team for much longer, it won’t be an issue….idiot Skins fan. It’s not like he’s going to pull a Haynesworth and cry like a baby one year after getting the biggest contract ever…..effin’ douche bag.

The first thing most young athletes do when they get their first contract is to buy themselves expensive jewellry, clothes, and cars. But Dex Bryant is different. Before anything else, he is going to buy his Mom a nice new whorehouse.

  66. wangchungish312 says: Jul 23, 2010 1:32 AM

As a Packer fan I naturally hate the Cowboys but kudos to both sides for doing what it took to get a deal done. As a fan of football of all levels I don’t like the message that holdouts send no matter whose fault it actually is and I think many of them could be avoided. The other teams and players would do well to follow their example. Ouch that stung.

Your absolutely right, because when I think of Pro Bowl QBs, I instantly think of a guy who was able to get his club to .500. FYI, your “caps lock” key seems to be stuck. Either that or your point has such little merit that you feel the need to shout in an attempt to add gravitas.

  69. rooster75 says: Jul 23, 2010 12:07 PM

So does this mean the team can now put the plans for White House 2.0 on the fast track? You know, find a suitable short-sale or foreclosed house, hire Newton and Irvin as project consultants, start decorating and printing maps and directions, etc.
Maybe Austin can even get his girl to invite some of her Hollywood friends to the parties. Surely they would be able to add some of the class and glitz which those run-of-the-mill Metroplex skanks can’t quite provide.

Now Florio has to stop talking about the Dez holdout he was pulling for.
I come here for rumors not speculation Florio. You guessed the Crabtree holdout last year, and now you think you have a skill for calling those kind of things.
