Broncos Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway thinks far too much is being made about the question of whether rookie Tim Tebow is an NFL-ready passer.
“The thing about Tebow is they’re focusing too much on his release,” Elway told the Denver Post. “As long as he can get it in a timely manner, I think he has plenty of arm there. . . . He’s not going to change his release. He may get better. Obviously, by throwing you get more accurate and more accurate and you may shorten it up as time goes on but if it’s long and quick, that’s OK.”
Overall, Elway sounds like he’s sold on Tebow and on the direction the Broncos are heading in. But he cautioned that people shouldn’t expect too much from the team because “they are so young.”
“Maybe they make eight, nine, 10 wins would be a good year I would think,” Elway said. “But show a little more consistency and finish the season out.”
Can we just transplant Elways right arm to Tebows, and have an Frankenstien ambedextrious hybrid freakazoid?
Good for John Elway. This is not about Tebow’s arm strength. This is about Tim Tebow’s abilities to make necessary judgments to defensive schemes. This is about Tebow’s ability to make the correct throws vs. Cover 1, Cover 2, and the tricky new NFL style match up defenses.
Some QB’s take time to develop because of the uniqueness of the position.
I agree with Elway for once. I love Tebow and hate the Broncos. I do agree with Elway all the way, 100%.
Go TEBOW!!!!
I agree with Elway, too much is being made of “mechanics”. there have been made alot about “mechanics” I guess that if he caould deliver the ball on time and accuratley, thats all that should matter……
But the again, all the “pundits” at espn, dont think he can succeed, we’ll soon see, I dont think Orton is the answer in the Mile High City
Wonder if he was a Chief, would he have the same opinion?
Prediction: Tim Tebow will be a decent NFL QB.
They all said the same thing about Steve Young’s supposedly ‘slow” and “awkward” release back in the mid 80′s.
And, last time I checked Steve Young is a Hall of Famer!
Everyone claims the SEC is the best conference in all of College Football. Well, Tebow dominated the SEC. So, a guy who dominated the best conference in NCAA is supposedly going to suck in the NFL???
I’m not buying it! All you Tebow haters are going to look like the idiots you truly are, when Tebow proves you all wrong!
Kyle Orton has a noodle for an arm!
Brady Quinn just plain sucks!
Tim Tebow is a winner and he has a cannon for an arm! Who the hell cares if his release is long?
The SEC is the top conference in NCAA football and Tebow dominated it!
The Jacksonville Jaguars should’ve drafted Tebow.
When he succeeds, and make no mistake, he will, in the NFL, the Tebow-haters are all going to look like a bunch of morons.
Of course, by that time I imagine they’ll all develop selective amnesia and forget all the BS they piled on Tebow.
Player holdout in 2011 could really hurt Tebow’s development…we’ll see but all these teams with rookie QB hopefuls (Rams, Panthers, Broncos etc.) hope for a negotiation by christmas.
“Then the Lord John said to King McDaniels, “Now you will see what He will do to the Pharaoh and to the Charger alike: Because by Tebow’s mighty arm he shall slay them; because of his mighty hand he will drive them to the depths of the Division as I have done before.”
The Book Of Tebow, Chaper 2, verse 11.

At least he’s positive about the team and actually sounds like he cares if they do well or not.
Unlike Montana who basically takes every chance he gets to shit on ther 49ers and their organization.
…………………………………
And where would you guys be without Joe Montana? Probably Baltimore, Houston, Cleveland, or St. Louis.
McDaniels destroyed this team
“Elway doesn’t have enough arm” -Jay Cutler.
Do Bronco fans have any choice but to totally root for Tebow? He cost us a ton, our starting QB cannot throw beyond 15 yards, and our back-up got booted from Cleveland. CLEVE. LAND.
I have come to terms with it and it is time for Tebow. He is as competent and make something out of nothing which is more than you can say for Orton.
Elway is right.
Tim Tebow has the best publicity machine since Lady Gaga. Tim Tebow is an NFL ready passer – no, sorry – poser
Timothy Richard must have the cleanest sack in Colorado, due to the constant ball washing he receives from the Donkey faithful…
Young Timothy Richard will soon find out he ain’t playing against the likes of Vanderbilt any more…
It is nice to hear from John. Especially when he is positively condoning the suspect moves of a new Head Coach. No matter, Orton is the best QB on the Broncos roster this year. Tebow has a LONG way to go. Oh course this is blasphemy to some of you Gator fans(Talking to you JoeButler). His release is long, but McDaniels can work with that. His short and intermediate throws need work also, but still this isn’t what concerns me the most. What does concern me is his footwork in the pocket. He is a PROJECT QB, not the savior of the Broncos….yet.
Well, he’s got plenty of arm = the NFL equivilent of saying a girl has a great personality.
The Left Hand Of God.
Shall smite you disbeleivers. Mightily.
@ Ryan T. :
I wouldn’t have had a problem if the Jags had drafted Tebow. I would have had a serious problem if they had drafted him 10th overall, however. If he had been there in Round 2 or 3, I would have loved for the Jags to have taken him. But the Broncos liked him enough to trade up to take him in Round 1. Are you saying that the Jags should have taken him 10th overall? Because that’s just stupid. If the Jags had taken him at the 10 spot in the 1st round, the Jags’ front office would have taken more shit for that then what they took for taking Alualu (who I love, by the way)
@ TheOne: You sir, are gay.
Yeah donkeys!! Try finishing the season for once, since Elway played! Hahahaa!!
Still, i give you props for dumping cuntler. Cant stand the prick
@Occam. Now that was good!
Not that anyone cares, but I hate stupid elway.
I love Tebow and the reality is he ain’t gonna excel in the NFL. Can he play? Yes. Can he be average? Possibly. But he will never win the Super Bowl or pass for 4,000 yards in a season. I’m not hating Tebow because I really do like him. He’s just not NFL material.
Come on people, lets be serious. He will be nothing. His mommy wont be able to follow him around all his life.
Just love the trolling out here. Just great!
In John We Trust. John has spoken, we all should listen. He has put his stamp of approval on Tim and I do believe he knows something about football and how to be an effective QB and team leader.
Secondly, I don’t think in anyway he’s putting down Kyle or Brady, I simply think the article is only about Tim. If it was about what he thinks about the current Qb situation in Denver I believe the conversation would have been different.
put all of his physical attributes aside, this guy has all the intangibles you’d ever want to see in your franchise QB. he works hard, knows a lot about many different styled offenses, and is a team first kind of guy. I’d be very happy to see him be a successful QB, and even happier to see him make a case for his name to be enshrined in Canton. With guys like Haynesworth, Pacman, T.O. in the league, we need more Tebow’s.
8, 9, 10 wins??? hahahahahahahahaha!!!
Well… his arms are plenty long enough… now if he just knew what to do with them.
I think this guy is going to shock the world.
Last I looked the NFL doesn’t have a “heart” scale.
Jamarcus Russell had NO heart.
Got paid, is on his way, and doesn’t care.
NEVER DID.
Tebow needs to lose weight and kick that codeine habit and sober up… wait… I’m back on someone else…. I just wish him all the best. God gave him talents he doesn’t even know he has yet.
Dude, his arm strength in the Senior Bowl was AMAZING!
Oh WAIT!!
He played like trash.
Prediction: Tebow has a short NFL career as a QB/Tight End hybrid type thing …
and then he settles down back in St.Johns country and remains a JAGUARS FAN.
John Elway has plenty of front teeth

What the hell do you know? If you’re such a genius you’d elevate yourself to a REAL QB coach instead of being a keyboard jock, fatass!
I still can’t get over the aquamarine satin shirt twins on draft day. The entire bar was falling over laughing.
Classic closet-case fruity. If things go well he might keep it in a while to keep the endorsements coming. If things go straight to hell as universally predicted he’ll have his Oprah moment before his second season is up.
John Elway says he has plenty of arm and shouldn’t change his motion. Steve Young says he’ll be good and shouldn’t change his motion.
I’ll take these guys opinions over a bunch of beat writer hacks opinions any day.
Have watched him since high school. Arm strength is fine, it was footwork that caused a few of his throws to lose velocity. He seems to have corrected most of that already, so in addition to everything else he brings to the table, I think he will have a good pro career.
If not, he will still rake in endorsements, and use most of that money to help others in need.
Why so many want to hate this guy is beyond me. Wonderful kid…
“Long and quick.” Hmmmm. Never has happened in the history of football quarterbacks, but you guys just go on drinking the cool-aid.
“Maybe they make eight, nine, 10 wins would be a good year I would think,” Elway said.
_________________
8, 9, 10 wins? Is he referring to the next 2 -3 years? Has Elway even looked at this year’s Bronco schedule? I’m not sure what drugs he’s ingesting but anyone of sound mind isn’t suggesting the Broncos have a remote chance of 8-10 wins this year.
Yeah, 8-9-10 wins would be a good year, in fact a sensational year, but it isn’t likely to happen. 3-6 is more likely.
@BAtkins
I really don’t know what I did to upset you so much. I am a Bronco fan and yes, I do watch a great amount of football. No I am not a QB Coach, nor am I fat. I am actually a PFC(private first class) in the US Army and if you want to race, sure, lets go.
My problem is not Tebows arm strength. His accuracy on short throws(due to the long delivery) is a concern of mine. Probably because he is in a system which requires a quick delivery, due to it revolving around a short route, quick read system. His deep accuracy is probably one of his most underrated attributes, however, he is going to have to earn those playcalls.
Like I stated prior, his pocket footwork is what concerns me most. He is a check-down and make plays with your feet first. The history of the NFL has shown these players not to be successful. I understand his success in the NCAA, but he will not be able to run a Play-Action fake with an empty backfield like he did at UF. He is a PROJECT, but this project has much potential to be something worthwhile. Good luck to your team mate.
He’s actually saying they’d be lucky to go 8-8.
I agree with him, VERY lucky.
Name this QB: played two years as primarily a shotgun QB and he had to learn how to play more under center when he got to the pros and one of the first times that he went under center, he was actually trying to take the snap from a guard.
Britton31 – You may just be able to take me in a foot race – 60yds – 100 yds, and possibly a 3 mile run. 16 knee surgeries have a way of slowing a guy down.
I just want to pull my hair out when someone on the net start talking football when it comes to position requirements, technique, mechanics, etc. Not for nothing, I could throw 100 footballs and there isn’t a soul on here that could pick out which ones I purposely threw with my feet, shoulders, or hips out of position. All they will see is that I hit what I was throwing to.
Cool? Good luck in your endeavors while serving our great country.

Like when he plays the Raiders twice, and realizes that Vanderbilt was actually more of a challenge? Good call moron.
Also 909RaiderLifer, isn’t that the case for every rookie taken in the draft? They are all going into positions where the competition is going to be much tougher. So if Tebow (huge heart, amazing work ethic, incredible will to win, best collegiate athlete of all time) was a mistake at 25 what does that say about the Raiders picking DHB (fast) at 7 overall? Now go talk some more shit, since it won’t be long until the Raiders start losing week after week again and all you idiot Raider fans have to go back into your closets until next off season.
