With rookies signed, Miles Austin sits atop Cowboys to do list

M. Austin3.jpgThe Cowboys have arrived in San Antonio for training camp and they’ve even given their introductory press conferences.  (Wade Phillips lost 40 pounds and is a grandfather!  Tony Romo came in five pounds below his weight!)

After the pleasantries were over, COO Stephen Jones indicated that taking care of Miles Austin is priority number one of the front office now that all the team’s rookies have signed.

“When we make sure we’ve got our hands around everything, he’s first and foremost,” Jones told Todd Archer about this week’s SI cover boy.

Jones alluded to the “uncertainty” of the labor situation, but it sounds like that won’t stop the Cowboys from paying their best receiver something close to what their fourth-best wide receiver Roy Williams makes.

    Ouch. That stings.
    But it’s funny.
    And true.
And after Ogletree gets some playing time, he might be the 5th best.

  2. @robert ethen….
best comment in a long, long, time. I’m still in laugh/hiccup mode (thanks for that, btw…)
I’m not sure why I found that so funny (Labatt Blue may have helped), but I did. Cheers!

  3. I wish more NFL owners would take a cue from Jerry Jones on contracts.
Too many owners try to hold players to contracts they have clearly outplayed but Jones has shown time and again if a player deserves a re-do, he’ll get it done and in a timely fashion.
Ever since the Emmit Smith debacle in 1993 Jones has managed to avoid another long protracted holdout over money.
If they deserve it, give it to’em. Don’t wait for there to be a stink, like what happened with Johnson and the Titans this offseason.

  4. “Wade lost 40 pounds and is a grandfather!”
…and STILL sucks as a head coach.

    Another ethan classic…..

  6. “…and STILL sucks as a head coach.”
And is still 5-2 vs. Andy Reid. Including 1-0 in the playoffs.
