Vikings running back Adrian Peterson hasn’t been in close contact with Brett Favre this offseason. But after seeing Favre last week, Peterson says he expects them to be teammates this year — and he’s willing to beg Favre to come back if that’s what it takes.
“I saw him down in L.A. for the first time this offseason, down at the ESPYs,” Peterson told the Oklahoman while in town for a football camp. “Looking in his eyes, I got the sense he was coming back. I’ll be going down to his house, telling him, ‘Favre, I need you back.’”
Peterson said reaching the Super Bowl would carry extra weight for him this season because the game is in Texas, where he was born and raised. And he says the Vikings need Favre at quarterback if they’re going to get there.
“I grew up watching Favre,” Peterson said. “I’m as big a fan of his as the people that’s watching him. People in Green Bay that’s been watching him all his life. Just to have the opportunity to play with him and come up short, it would definitely feel good [if he came back] this year [and we] hoisted up that trophy [together] in Dallas, Texas.”
For Favre, whose own agent thinks he’s a drama queen, it must be music to his ears to hear Peterson talk about him in such glowing terms. When Favre eventually reports to the Vikings, he’ll surely say he decided to return for another season because he loves his teammates as much as they love him.
Of course Peterson wants him back. They won’t break .500 if Butterfingers has to carry the team alone.
Not that it will happen, but they would have to “hoist that trophy together” cause we all know Adrian would drop it if he held it alone
oh… my…. god!
“bi-queen” was just a term I used to harass the viking fans. But this is starting to turn into a faver-fumblerson-chilly three way.
I get it now! I understand the pre-occupation you Viking fans have with all things gay.
“Looking in his eyes, I got the sense he was coming. I’ll be going down, telling him, ‘Favre, I need your backside.’
It is crystal clear now. You boys have fun with each other.
Obviously he wants him back. He saw that the team didn’t do dick to improve in the offseason. No notable free agents and a draft that was one of if not the worst in the entire league.
Favre is their only hope of not finishing third in the division this year.
…Would be great to see Favre and AD hoist the trophy that should be renamed to “The Bill Belichick Championship Trophy.” The Lombardi Trophy was great in prehistoric times but this is the era of modern pro football….
it’s amusing how an article like this instantly sparks such spiteful comments from these classy people.
Adrian…I need you to hold on the to the friggin’ pigskin!
These two deserve each other. LOL
Just put the whole team on a plane, fly down to Miss, bus ‘em over to Favre’s house and let ‘em all file by one at a time while Favre sets on his throne. They can all kneel before him, kiss his ring (yeah, the Super Bowl one), wash his feet and beg him to come back. Maybe he could even kiss a few tears away. This is ridiculous.
To those Vike fans I admire & respect–this has got to be pissing you off alittle. I mean how much longer is this guy gonna drag this out? I feel for ya. I’m sorry, but your coach needs to man up.
“Just to have the opportunity to play with him and come up short, it would definitely feel good [if he came back] this year [and we] hoisted up that trophy [together] in Dallas, Texas.”"
Holy crap, easy on the brackets!
first series against 49ers, first half against Seahawks
So now every member of the Vikings will be making a pilgrimage to Hattiesburg to pay homage to The Great One, no doubt bringing gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
This is what that egomaniac Favre lives for. One by one all the players and coaches will beg him to come back, either by paying him homage in person or by phone. He will drag this thing out until every member of the organization kisses his ass. After all Its all about Brett.
Last year Adrian didn’t look like the same runner who was shredding defenses in ’08.
Going into the season with Gerhart as the backup RB is a risky proposition. In addition to getting far too many carries last year, he may not be quick enough to hit the hole in the NFL. He’s fast, but not quick. Gerhart also stands too tall when he runs. Chilly should have traded for Lynch instead of using a 2nd round pick on Gerhart.
Peterson is no dummy, he realizes that T Jack Off is a recipe for disaster combined that with shit for brains as head coach and you end up staying home for the playoffs, as opposed to fumbling three times in the playoffs, big difference you know.
I actually feel bad for Petersen, he is a lot like Barry Sanders. One of the best backs of his day but played for an idiot of a head coach and on a team that everyone knew was going to self destruct before doing any real damage in the playoffs.
Just like Sanders, Peterson is wasting his best years in an inept organization and unless traded, will end a career without holding the Lombardi trophy.
… and he comes back…. and the season ends on another pass interception he should have NEVER thrown… then what?
and he’s willing to beg Favre to come back if that’s what it takes.
I’ll be going down to his house, telling him, ‘Favre, I need you back.’”

Gotta hand it to Peterson and Chilly. They did their homework.

What a pack consistent losers.
My god, this just reeks of desperation. Poor pathetic Vikings..
He is not going to be back. His ankle is not healing and even if it does feel good enough for him to play, it is not strong enough to withstand an entire NFL season.
Unless of course he is not telling the truth about his progress, but that would make him a douche bag diva who is trying to make himself out to be the savior riding in on the white horse. I still refuse to believe Brett Favre has turned into that.
This can’t be good for the confidence of the other QBs on the roster, though. PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ME WITH THESE BUMS!
STOOOPID COMENT, PETERSON!! How do your other QBs feel when they hear you saying stuff like that? You have 52 teammates. Let the GM and coach pick them.
Maybe it wouldn’t have taken Favre so long to decide to come back if the Vikings had done just one friggin’ thing to improve the team. Hel-lo!
skimbell-The real Super Bowl Trophy should be named after…..Belichick. He did the impossible: he created a dynasty in the salary cap era. Greats like Lombardi, Brown, and Noll, among others, were able to keep their teams together because of the lack of a salary cap and more restrictive free agent rules.
Second: Belichick has been able to deal with the bad boy athlete as well as any coach in the modern era. Though there are exceptions, players in the Lombardi and Brown periods, and even into the Noll and Landry dynasties, mostly respected authority. The coach said jump and the player said how high. Today, in the era of Belichick, a coach says jump, and the player says “f— off. I don’t do jumping.”
Third: The Chicago, Cleveland, Green Bay, Dallas, Pittsburgh, and San Francisco dynasties (not to mention the Jimmy Johnson Cowboy dynasty) were not ravaged by free agency the way the Patriots have been. Yet New England continued to win.
So Belichick has mastered playing under a salary cap, won championships despite the ravages of free agency, and got the me-athlete to listen.
Also, no coach with the exception of Brown, Walsh and maybe one other coach in history has been more innovative than Belichick. Some of his defensive schemes in Super Bowls both as a head coach and defensive coordinator are legendary.
And while Tom Brady might some day go down as the greatest pass thrower of all time, Belichick’s rosters while with the Patriots have been more like Paul Brown’s than Noll’s. In other words, the New England roster under Belichick has had very good players but it is not overflowing with Hall of Fame talent, so Belichick has had to roll up his sleeves and coach hard to create that dynasty.

ad says “favre i need you back”, and he’s coming back, and throughout wisconsin a little piece of every packer fan just died.
in the dark places where packer fans dwell, favre’s return hits them like daylight, and they hiss and shield their eyes and drag their bulk deeper into the darkness like some albino vampire.
to hear the rage and panic in every comment from every packer fan every time a post comes on reminding them of the inevitability of favre coming back to punish them yet again, it’s very satisfying. especially in a year when the packers lost 2 starters, kampman and jolly, and got nothing back in free agency.
you need to remember though, the vikes also won the division 2 years ago with tjack so basically… you’re screwed no matter what.
Fine that Peterson prefers Favre.

Favre may be wishy washy and indesisive, but at least he’s never threatened to hold out on his team for more money.

The LA Vikings?? Is that a Roller derby team or something??
Obviously Peterson is a racist for not wanting Jackson as the starting QB….
In other news…. I can’t wait to laugh at the Packers when they put on those hideous throwback uniforms this season… those things make the Bronco’s throwbacks from last year look like timeless classics.
when you get past all the anger and tears and scorned lover screams from packer fans about favre what you hear alot of, and i’ve had alot of packer fans ask me this, is this:
“will these dark post-favre years ever end? will there ever come a time when we can compete with the vikings?”
let’s take a second to think about this question.
okay the answer is no, and here’s why. it’s not just favre as far as why you can’t compete with the vikes, after all we also won the division the year before he got here. the problem for packer fans is that the vikes have way more good players than the packers.
the vikes have twice as many pro bowlers and twice as many all pros as the pack. because we have a competent gm who understands that you have to use all 3 methods available to upgrade your roster – free agency, draft, and trades – and he’s gotten pro bowlers using all these methods.
when spielman and chilly came in the defense was already good with pro bowl players like k. williams (draft), pat williams (free agent), antoine winfield (free agent), but they made it better with chad greenway (draft), ced griffin (draft), jarred allen (trade).
but the offense needed to catch up to the defense so they add pro bowlers like steve hutchinson (free agent), adrian peterson (draft), sid rice (draft), brett favre (free agent) percy harvin (roy), etc.
this is why the vikings have improved by 2 wins every year since spielman and chili got here. the packers problem is they’re stuck with ted thompson who is unbelievably cheap, on top of which the packers have been bleeding revenue since favre left and probably just don’t have the money to compete plus free agents really don’t want to come to green bay cause it sucks so bad there.
so when you have a horrible o-line there’s no money to improve it, when you have a horrible pass rush same thing, when you lose starters like kampman and jolly you’ve got no way to replace them.
that is why the packers will never be able to compete with the vikings. favre is a huge reason for it but not the only reason.
i hope this has been helpful for you.
Truth is, you simply hate to hear it in the open.
Begging is what the coach and general manager do most everywhere. You give the star whatever he needs within an ample budget. Begging is cheap.
The majority of teams in the NFL would do the same thing; they are not invited to the Brett Favre party.
It will end when his game blows up on him. I’m betting someone will do a Theismann on him.

Unfortunately, Belichick’s “dynasty” has been permanently tainted by Spygate. Were any of his wins legit? We’ll never know for sure, and I seriously doubt there will be any type of movement to change the name of the Lombardi Trophy to that of someone who’s integrity has been questioned in many people’s minds.
Regardless, I don’t know why you are so concerned over it anyways, Pervy. Call the trophy whatever you want, it’s not like the Queens will ever bring it home. Their organization has consistantly shown that they never have it when they need it the most.
Before anybody nominates Bill Bellicheat for anything, let’s see what he can win without Matt Walsh and his trusty video recorder.
All he has done since Spygate is blow a Superbowl in the 4th Quarter when his team had a lead, something Lombardi never did. Lombardi won when it counted (now I can see why Pervy can’t recognize his genius) and never cheated.
I could see why Pervy loves Bellicheat, work outside the rules and blow it in the big games, sounds like the Vikings to me.
“Belichick= modern man”
You forgot CHEATER
i am forced to retract part of my earlier comment explaining why the packers cannot compete with the vikings. i incorrectly stated that the vikes have twice as many pro bowlers and all pros as the packers.
the truth is that the vikes have 8 pro bowlers and 4 all pros but the packers have only ONE all pro (woodson) so the vikes have not twice as many but 4 times as many.
the vikes not only have more all pros than any team in the league, they are all FIRST TEAM all pros.
i have also decided that in fairness we must include ej henderson since if he wasn’t injured he would’ve been a pro bowler and all pro. and sadly i have ruled that matthews must be eliminated from the pro bowl team since he only got on as an injury sub and also he plays juiced and will soon be banned for using steroids. which means that the vikes have 4 times as many all pros and 3 times as many pro bowlers as the lowly packers.
the rest of my earlier comment is exactly correct in every way. you are welcome.
carry on.
Brad Childress: “Favre, I want you from the back.”
Seriously, what is with this sick game? I think Favre just wants to be begged every year.
Oh, and btw you lazy, illiterate rednecks down in Mississippi, it’s pronounce “FAHV-reh” and you know it. They changed the pronunciation to “farv” because the original pronunciation doesn’t sound American enough— and we don’ lahk them forinerz down hyar in Mississip!
so let me sum up by saying that yes, the vikes are obviously better than the packers (duh) and given the terrible packer news of the packers loss of favre, the financial meltdown since favre left, tiny market status, nonstop off field scandals (johnny purple drank jolly, dells rape) and the ted the gay albino’s allergy to free agents or spending money, that situation is very, very, very unlikely to change.
however, on the plus side, history buffs and your great grandparents can still derive some satisfaction by looking at the old grainy newsreel film of the packers glory days during the ice age, before all the dinosaurs died.
The truth is Favre wanted to be a Packer but after his teary farewell speech the Packers moved on. Took the boy for his word.
The truth is the vikings already know it’s favre or nothing which is why they let him do as he pleases.
“the truth is that the vikes have 8 pro bowlers and 4 all pros but the packers have only ONE all pro (woodson) so the vikes have not twice as many but 4 times as many.”

I think it’s high time to realize there is an increasingly larger chance that Favre does not come back. Let’s visit his possible mindsets:
1. He’s an egomaniac that cannot function without having the spotlight — This one is least likely, almost impossible based if nothing else then on where he decided to retire and rarely leaves. How many retirees you know retired in Mississippi???
2. He flat-out loathes training camp — This one is very possible considering his age and the generation he hails from is about 180 degrees from his current contemporaries. Also factoring into this scenario is the need to focus on a different type of conditioning and keeping fresh for a rigorous 16 game season.
3. His ankle is simply not improving — This one seems most logical based on the NFCCG, his recent comments about the lack of progress and his age.
For football fans, let’s hope for #2 because if his ankle isn’t where it needs to be, it probably isn’t going to get much better in another month for a 41 year old body. There just might be some tremendously disappointed NFL football fans before the season even begins.
mike, i think it was ruvell100 that posted the story about all the for sale signs that keep getting put in ted thompson’s lawn but i have heard about it for a long time too. apparently it’s been happening pretty much every weekend since the favre trade.
it usually happens late at night and it’s probably just kids but supposedly ted thompson keeps running out in his bathrobe every time it happens but they just run away laughing at him as he shakes his fist. he always keeps the signs too like some old man who keeps baseballs that get hit onto his property.
that kind of vandalism is really bad, ted says it’s a form of abuse.

I am not joking when I say I’d rather have Favre quarterbacking the Vikings than T-Jack. I would rather have a dude who has won 4 playoff games in 13 years give them the illusion of a championship team and fail miserably, therefore retarding the develop of the quarterbacks behind him.
If you were a promising young quarterback, would you sign with Minnesota? The front office and coaching staff is as loyal as the fanbase. Who know’s when you’d get kicked to the curb for a media darling with horrible practice habits, a delicate psyche and a long history of playing horribly when it matters most.

Alright, I’ll bite. Care to explain yourself?
Cmon Super, dazzle me with your football acumen.
i think all vikes fans pretty much feel that as long as the packers are stuck with thompson for a gm the division will remain ours. ted hasn’t done a think in 5 years and even when he had favre he wouldn’t give him the weapons to put them in the super bowl.
and now that favre has left the packers are just 17-15, their o-line, defense and special teams still sucks, they lost starters kampman and jolly and thompson did zip in free agency again to fix their shortcoming or compensate for the starters they lost.
plus best of all the gay albino is signed for like another 5 years. which means at his presesnt rate he’ll be their gm for 10 years and have 4 winning seasons and 2 playoff wins.
