Dez Bryant off to impressive start in Cowboys’ camp

At the risk of making too much of two days of training camp, everyone in Dallas seems to agree that Cowboys rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant is off to a sensational start.

Assessing Bryant’s performance on the first day of camp on Saturday, coach Wade Phillips gushed.

He looked as good as any player at any position, on the first day, as anybody I’ve seen in a long time,” Phillips said. “He’s got a lot of ability.”

And then following Sunday’s practice, the first for the Cowboys in pads, the team’s web site singled Bryant out as the hot player in camp, noting that, among other highlights, he got behind defensive back Mike Jenkins and caught a deep ball.

As for the question of whether Bryant could push Roy Williams out of a job, DallasCowboys.com points out that Williams was jeered by fans after dropping a pass, and that Bryant followed up Williams’ drop with two good catches.
