Brad Childress thinks Brett Favre needs 2-3 weeks of camp

Brett Favre won’t be there Friday when the Vikings open training camp. But as long as Favre shows up two or three weeks before the Vikings’ September 9 regular-season opener, coach Brad Childress thinks that will be just fine.

Couple three weeks is probably what he needs,” Childress said, per Chip Scoggins of the Star Tribune.

Childress’s time frame would suggest that Favre should probably show up in time to play in the Vikings’ third preseason game, on August 28. Minnesota’s final preseason game is on September 2.

“The fact that you play [the season opener] three days earlier kind of cuts the window,” Childress said. “Usually we go from the fourth preseason game to [having] 10 days out where you get a couple extra works days or rest days or whatever.”

Childress says he still doesn’t know what Favre will do, and that Tarvaris Jackson is scheduled to take most of the snaps with the first-string offense for the time being.

Brett Favre thinks he needs 2-3 hours of camp. So I guess we know where this is headed.

Is a “couple of three weeks” kinda like a “pair” of pants?
Chilly’s edumacation is showing up in this thread.

  4. steelerhypocrite says: Jul 26, 2010 3:06 PM

Yeah, right. Childress is only saying this in case Favre struggles out of the gate.
In fact, here is his speech after a miserable Week 5 loss to the winless Jets – “I thought he needed a little more pratice, but I’m not worried, the old gunslinger will prevail…oh, I also plan to tonguejack his ass later this week.”

  7. Hauschild says: Jul 26, 2010 3:11 PM

So, there you have it. The coach doesn’t care, the players don’t mind, it’s pretty much been relegated to a non-issue.
Simply let this process run its course and we’ll find out within another month what the decision is going to be. Ain’t no way I’m banking on a guaranteed return from a 41 year old QB – that accepts nothing less than 100 percent from himself physically and mentally – that’s got a shoddy ankle.
If Favre returns, great. If he doesn’t, well, 2010 is going to become a yawner. Couple that with a potential lockout, and that will be enough for the NFL to lose a significant audience – at a time it feels it is the best thing since sliced bread. I love how businesses rise and fall.

Everybody knows Favre only needs 3 days … Chilli continues having counting problems … still hasn’t mastered that 11 and 12 thing – so this “couple of three” ramble is understandable.
Note to IHate … just stay on your own side of the Mississippi, homeboy.
Go Saints! (Week 1 at least) .. Go Pack !! Go to Cincinnati T.O. – you and Chad in those uniforms … WoW!!!!

and I heard the quote was….

And TEd is doing the same thing to all you Packer fans…He’s f*cking you good, and you pull your pants down and ask, “Thank you Sir, can I have another”….

Childo is pretty ballsy putting staking his season on a 41 year old QB with a bum ankle who thinks that training camp is for rookies. If Princess Favre does decide to hang it up for good, the Queens will be in a dogfight with the Lions for last place in the division, and likely being awarded an all-expenses paid trip to sunny L.A.

Is that right!? Really? The Vikings went into the playoffs 2 years ago with Tarvaris Jackson at the helm. Please!

  28. Socrates1818 says: Jul 26, 2010 6:30 PM

The receivers (Rice, Percy, BB and Shank) should take a quick trip down to Miss together this week just to catch a few balls from Brett. Don’t ask nothin about comin back, just catch some balls like the high school kids do. That would blow Bretts’ mind, he’d come back, if there was any doubt and would be TURNED ON. It would take team chemisty through the roof. Jerry Kramer always said that the players on Lombardis’ great teams loved each other and that made all the difference

  29. NoGravyForSconnies says: Jul 26, 2010 7:30 PM

sweet! keep him on EXACTLY the same schedule he was on last season when he finished with the 2nd highest qb rating in the league, finished 3rd in mvp voting…
and ripped out the hearts and all hope for the future from every last one of the thousands of chubby packer fans in wisconsin, and both of the thin packer fans in wisconsin.

  30. NoGravyForSconnies says: Jul 26, 2010 7:36 PM

it’s mean and almost sadistic of pft to keep posting stories about favre’s return, knowing that each story is just pouring salt onto the open wound of packer fans who have been in agony since the day favre came out of retirement and coincidentally the packers started fighting for second place in the division.
but on the other hand, packer fans are kinda masochistic since they all claim to love the pain that ted thompson inflicts on them year after year (2 winning seasons, 1 playoff win, and 1 pro bowl free agent signing after 5 years of ted.)

Should his name be misspelled on the plaque too? Is that part of your grand attention-grabbing plan? I’m sure the NFL is tripping over itself on this idea, it’s so good. You should focus on the things you know best…homosexuality and fishing…and not necessarily exclusive of each other.

  37. sand0 says: Jul 27, 2010 8:48 AM
