Rams drop out of T.O. hunt

On Friday, reports surfaced that the Bengals are interested on Terrell Owens.  On Saturday, the Rams publicly entered the fray.  Eventually, Jay Glazer of FOX reported that the Rams would convene Monday to make a decision on whether to pursue Owens.

Glazer now reports that a decision has been made.  The Rams are out.

Per a league source, the Rams bailed because they knew that Owens prefers to join Chad Ochocinco and Carson Palmer in Cincinnati.  The Rams also realized they’d have to overpay in order to get him, given that they are not a contending team.

The Bengals are the only other team pursuing Owens aggressively.  Other teams are interested, but they are not yet going after T.O. actively — yet.

Welcome to Cincinnati, T.O. I hope you prove to be the difference maker that helps us get over the hump and finally win a playoff game for the first time in 2 decades…

Good to see common sense ruled out here. It never made any kind of sense to sign a locker room cancer and pair him with a rookie QB. IT would have been a disaster. The only teams I can see even chancing signing T.O, are contenders with a strong locker room to keep him in check. Kind of like the Patriots gambling on Randy Moss, only Moss had alot more left in the tank than Owens does. Maybe the Vikings can use him. I dont know. But no team with a young QB should be anywhere near him

  19. Trox says: Jul 26, 2010 3:59 PM

Anyone who doesn’t see this as a nice pick-up for Cincy is dreaming. First of all, the Bengals will get him for next to nothing. He has a GREAT relationship with Carson (they have been throwing together in Cali all offseason) and Chad who are both leaders on the team. These are the facts, last year on the Bills T.O. had the likes of Ryan Fitzterrible and Trent Edwards throwing to him and he still had just as my TDs as Hines Ward, Percy Harvin, and Donald Driver. He was 26th in receptions among receivers, and 33rd in catches. He dropped a few balls, but Fitzgarbage overthrew and underthrew him constantly. The Bengals have nothing to lose in picking him up, but if he stays healthy and minds his P’s and Q’s (which he did in Buffalo) they stand to have one of, if not THE, best receiving corps in the league. Before you shoot it down tell me a team that’s better.
And one more thing. Steelers and Ravens fans should really stop calling Bengals players criminals and jail birds…You guys harbor rapists and murderers. Bengals punch people, buy weed, and get traffic violations.
    Kisses.

  20. hotchick says: Jul 26, 2010 3:59 PM

I cant believe Cincy fans are happy about possibly getting a guy who did nothing last year.
Yes it was on a bad team bu he did NOTHING, and is now a year older.
Meanwhile the “do you have 3 Revis’s fool.” Look the one Revis shut down Chad. You do not need a Revis to shut down Owens or Bryant.
React to the TO that is available this season, not the one who played in SF.

  23. TheOne says: Jul 26, 2010 4:02 PM

Good, this will be sweet to see Owens, Ochocinco and Bryant on the same field. Bryant is well underrated. I think Cin could use Owens and Bryant deep, with Ochocinco over the middle. This will also help open up the run game for Benson and Scott. Also this will help Carson in fantasy once again and make him a good sleeper QB to take.

Natti even the Raiders aren’t trying to bring this cancer in. How can you be happy about this?

  25. alan69 says: Jul 26, 2010 4:08 PM

The Bengal’s coach won’t be able to handle T.O. along with Chad. Hope it works out and they get him cheaply. He may be able to help the younger receivers. Carson Palmer still needs to learn to throw the ball much more accurately for the Bengals to have a chance. He blows too many passes.

So what’s to say the Bengals don’t offer him the same sort of contract?
    2- Chad’s definitely a pain in the ass but he’s not a cancer- just a polyp I guess –
It’s definitely a gamble picking him up but best case scenario I can see is Chad and TO out there just having a blast like a lopsided sandlot game.
Course you never no when TO is just gonna take his ball and go home

Ok so if you really are a “hotchick” i’ll dismiss your ignorance. You’ve proven your own point wrong. lol He was on a $hitty team with a 3rd string QB starting. you can’t base last year off anything except for the fact he still had a moderate year considering the circumstances of the team he was on. Nice job correcting yourself right after making your point. All the haters won’t be hating anymore when they can’t stop our offense. Only thing that can hurt our offense now is Carson not being back to his old self.

Perfect – the Bungles need more headaches and morons to torture their fans. Uff – its always been an embarrassment to be a Bungles fan, especially since they went to those ridiculous stripped helmet design, but this makes it even better. You are the ONLY team in the entire NFL that wants this jackass – perhaps you should rethink your position on the matter… after all, just because it is on the Clearance Rack doesn’t mean it still isn’t ugly as hell.

    @TROX
Well said homie. That is what ppl fail to realize. TO has nothing but upside, for the Bengals. He mouths off, hes gone. Period end of story. I once heard a wise man tell me that even a stupid man learns over time. TO is older and, I would argue more wise than he was. He will come to us and he will make that receiver corps-THE BEST in the league. How could any team realistically stop it, with Ced Ben and BScott and Leonard waiting in the wings? You also have to consider that TO was the only receiver worth covering in Buffalo, he wsa negated by every team they faced much like Chad last year. Its all about context, and in the Bengals context, TO would be mighty.

    I am a long-time T.O. hater.
However, if he signs for the right price (low) and keeps his piehole shut, I see more positives than negatives.
Two things make me think he’ll behave himself – his friendship with Chad Johnson and the veterans in the Bengal locker-room.
All that said, I trust Carson Palmer’s opinion more than anyone else on the matter.

I have been a Bengal’s fan since they started and NEVER was embarrassed, so, I don’t know what’s wrong with you and your pinheaded statement above. They just need to hold on to a good coach. Nothing wrong with the stripped helmets either. Its the best looking helment in the league and is ten times better than the previous, unimaginative one. And, stripes are the last thing some running backs remember before they get hit.

You have the balls to speak down about Buffalo when you back the Lions? Come on, are you freaking kidding me? Buffalo gave T.O. the key to the city because they knew if they did, he (Owens) would do as much as he could for all of the local charities. Like he did in every other city that he played. Idiot.

Bunch of turd burglars on here who knows zero about football and believes too much in what the press says.
You all said Tank Johnson was a cancer. Buzz. Benson is a cancer. Buzz. Roy Williams is a cancer. Buzz.
Owens? Well Marvin and Mike are batting 1.000, so yeah… I’m all for it.
Cincy Jailbirds? Geez. Get out of the past man. Why are so many threatened that the Bengals are actually fielding a team of deep talent? For the second year in a row, I might add.
To all the complete morons who said last year was a fluke.. the 4th best defense in the NFL is no fluke. Check 2008… also a great D that year.
Now, they will arguably have the deepest offense in the AFC (they already had the deepest defense, to which there is absolutely no argument.. if you debate that you know butkus about the NFL).
Pair that defense with Chad, TO, Bryant, Caldwell, Benson, and Gresham??? I mean, any soul who says he’s a NFL person who would say he didn’t want that lineup is a flaming LIAR. hahahahaaha. “oh, he’s a cancer.. I’d rather go 2-14 than win with guys like that”… haha… u guys are all a bunch of pansies.
I mean, seriously. Steeler fans are supposed to be smart about the game. They can’t see the talent on that football team in Cincinnati?

    To hitdogo42:
It may be futile to debate with someone with as much insight as a lemming, but here it goes: The Bengals consistently draft players who have significant character problems and that is why your team will always be considered the scum on the under-belly of the NFL. In 2010, there was Geno Atkins and most notably, Carlos “I drink myself unconscious only when championships are on the line” Dunlap. In 2009, there was Rey “I’m not too old to be drunk with 16 yr-old girls yet” Maualuga, Michael Johnson and Bernard “there isn’t a school I couldn’t get kicked out of or a coach I couldn’t punch in the face” Scott. In 2008, there was Jason Shirley . . . you know what – you’re too stupid for me to go on – feel free to love your Superbowless chain gang; I hope you do sign the garbage bag, he’d fit right in with you.
