Bucs don't plan to talk contract with Donald Penn

Bucs G.M. Mark Dominik may be sorry that he lied about his ability to fine tackle Donald Penn and joked about the tackle’s weight, but the team isn’t ready to hand Penn a new contract with training camp around the corner.

Rick Stroud of the St. Petersburg Times reports that the Bucs don’t plan any meaningful discussions about giving Penn a contract extension before camp.

Ranked by some as a top-ten left tackle, Penn remains an unsigned restricted free agent that is not subject to fines for skipping more work.  Eventually, he should show up. In the meantime, we expect to hear Bucs coaches lavish praise on untested former basketball player Demar Dotson, who will step in for Penn on the left side.

And we don’t expect to believe any of it.

Wow…it’s hard being a Buc fan with constant negative, when we should see more positive. I keep telling myself…these guys know what they are doing just wait and see….we’ll see!!!!! Go Bucs!!!!!

Demar Dotson has already been described as a future “star-in-the-making” by some Bucs brass. Nothing but hot air, but the local web zines eat it up.
It’s amazing that the Buccaneers have no desire to protect their “Franchise” QB, Josh Freeman. If Dotson starts the season as a starter… Freeman is going to get killed out there.

Anyone who tho thinks Penn is a top 5, or even top 10 left tackle, I want some of what your smoking.
From a stat number (Outsiders) he was rated in the bottom third.
Doubt he would start for over half the teams in the league.

The Glazer’s will sign Donald Penn to a contract when he can demonstrate to them he can deliver in the Attacking Third for Manchester United!

Complain all you want about the Bucs Brass but you gotta admit they were smart enough not to sign Antonio Bryant.
