Dolphins extend Dan Carpenter

The Miami Dolphins have locked up their kicker for three more seasons.

Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post reports that the Dolphins have signed kicker Dan Carpenter to a three-year, $6.205 million extension that keeps him under contract through the 2013 season.

Carpenter signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2008 and beat out Jay Feely in a training camp competition. Last season he made 25 of 28 field goals and was selected to the Pro Bowl as an injury replacement when Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding pulled out.

The Dolphins have also signed punter Brandon Fields and long snapper John Denney to contract extensions this offseason, ensuring that the special teams nucleus is in place for the foreseeable future.
