Jets the latest entrant in Terrell Owens sweepstakes

Terrell Owens likes to see his name in the headlines.  So do the New York Jets.  So it was only a matter of time before Owens and the Jets were in a headline together.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Jets are exploring the idea of signing Owens and have contacted Owens’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus.

That doesn’t mean Owens actually ending up with the Jets is likely; Schefter quotes one source as putting the chances of the Jets signing Owens at “20 percent.”

But as we noted a couple weeks ago, the “Final Eight Plan” meant the Jets were among the group of teams that would have to wait until the first training camp opened before they could sign Owens.  And now that the first training camp has opened, the Jets are showing some interest.

    Vote of confidence for Braylon?
What kind of sense does this make, other than generating media buzz … for psl sales?
C’mon, Braylon, Holmes, Eldorado, and Patriots Killer Cotchery? Plus Sanchez? They gonna run the ball anyway.

  2. TheOne says: Jul 27, 2010 8:43 AM

Gay….just go to CIN. Carson will get you the ball crappy dirty Sanchez won’t.

  3. Bleeding Green says: Jul 27, 2010 8:43 AM

Kick the tires and move on. The Jets don’t need another rock star. Cue the haters in 3, 2, 1…

  4. jwill007 says: Jul 27, 2010 8:46 AM

He will sign there as they will pay him more then my Bengals….We lose no sleep we roll out Bryant, Ocho, Gresham, Shipley and COffman AN ENTIRELY NEW PASSING OFFENSE!
Bengals Fans, lets move forward with him we would be unstoppable without him we still will be DEADLY and the NFL is about to find out….
Keep talkin we need all the motivation we can get…..Florio talked all this stuff last year and we showed him about 5,000,000 others….We will do it again in 2010.

Fat Rex Ryan must be desperate for more attention before the season starts because he knows his team isn’t good enough to get any for their play.

  6. DonTerrelli says: Jul 27, 2010 8:49 AM

Hmm, T.O., Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes, Jerricho Cotchery, etc. It will be interesting to see how Mark Sanchez handles them.

Since when is %20 considered “likely?” It’s more likely that the Jet’s are overrated with or without TO.

I would LOVE to see the Jets sign him.
    -Sincerely a Pats fan
I hope they make all these moves. Give all the Jets fans all this hope. And compete with the Bills for last place. It would be so great. LT, Holmes, TO? HAHAHA…maybe Sanchez will throw less ints than Tds this year. But you go Jets fans..you go talking smack. By signing guys NAMES..you will win the East. You keep thinking that.

  10. salmen76 says: Jul 27, 2010 8:53 AM

If the Jets sign T.O. and everyone stays healthy on that team they will win the AFC hands down. They were in the AFC championship game last year. Now they have another year under their belt with Rex and they’ve signed lots of good additional players. The Saints will play the Jets in the SB in Cowgirl Stadium. Drew Brees and the Saints will scorch their a$$e$ for sure. Saints 52, Jets 17.

But this one has moved me to utter a “Please, God, no.”

  12. Kblakeshot says: Jul 27, 2010 8:56 AM

Just waiting for Indy to get involved. Bengals would still be my first choice though. Cant believe these teams dont want to pay this top 15 receiver!

  13. BRUTUS9448 says: Jul 27, 2010 8:56 AM

great move. Owens will fit real nince up there. Can’t wait to see the Jets crumble. Its a train wreck that you can’t take your eyes off of.

  14. DC_Bengals_Fan says: Jul 27, 2010 8:57 AM

This is basically Rosenhaus trying to get the Bengals to bid against themselves. First he tried throwing the Rams out there, that didn’t work. Doubt this will either.

  16. ijr213 says: Jul 27, 2010 9:02 AM

Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards and now maybe TO? Is Jericho Cotchery really not that good? He must be getting all sorts of frustrated about this.

  21. njhitman says: Jul 27, 2010 9:10 AM

Well he is looking for a team that gives him the best shot at a RING. We all know that the Jets are a better shot then the Ben Gals . When was the last time then went to the playoffs in back to back seasons .

  22. DB26 says: Jul 27, 2010 9:21 AM

Mr. Holmgren/Mr. Haskill/Mr. Heckert/&Mr. Mangini…. If this is going to happen, this creates a perfect opportunity to make another Browns/Jets move for you to send a couple mid round picks or even some pick swapping to grab Jericho Cotchery & Vernon Gholston. And yes, you all heard the name Vernon Gholston as I feel he will be a much better DL than OLB. The Jets Scouting Dept missed the boat on him when knowing he did not have the fluid hips to play the OLB position in a 3-4, way too stiff. As a DE in a 3-4, Gholston has the potential to be a monster & live up to his draft selection.
With Holmes, Edwards, & Owens….. Go ahead & move me Cotchery & Gholston for a 3rd/4th/swap of 2nd rounders!
Thanks Mr. Tannenbaum for agreeing to those terms!

    Couldn’t agree more!

  24. JetReaper says: Jul 27, 2010 9:22 AM

Ridiculous… I’d put the Jets at the 25th team in the league to possibly sign TO…
Actually if this were next year and Holmes and Edwards were both looking for huge money the possibilitities would be completely different and I’d almost expect it to happen…
But, even for TO. why would he sign on to be part of a 4 man WR rotation???

  25. Brick-Pride says: Jul 27, 2010 9:23 AM

    @ Ramrod
Since when is %20 considered “likely?” It’s more likely that the Jet’s are overrated with or without TO.
In America, the % comes after the number, and the word Jets doesn’t need an apostrophe, it’s not a possessive noun.
That being said, I feel like after week 4 the guy to lose his job to Owens would be Cotchery, and I would MUCH rather have Cotchery. The guy is consistent every year and never makes a peep. Plus he’s younger and knows the system.

LOL you think cause the last game oif the season we need a ton of help???? Dude then you dont know shit about football or other teams to talk like that and the playoff game half our team was injured…We will see what you think on Thanksgiving….But if you think you plan to see last years 2009 team then you are in for a RUDE AWAKENING! Keep talkin they need that motivation….

You could well be right but I think it would be hilarious if that douche TO went to the JESTS. After all, their “me first, big talker egomaniac” ratio isn’t QUITE 1:1 yet.

  28. SoFlor Steeler says: Jul 27, 2010 9:29 AM

What was really funny was listening to Greenburg slober all over Santonio Holmes – talk about a “man crush” – what an idiot – he actually stated he thought Holmes was better than TO – Jets fan delusion….

  30. Austskate says: Jul 27, 2010 9:36 AM

Jets are clearly just trying to win an emmy for Best Cast in Hard Knocks. If TO signs, it may be the best cast in the history of the show, rivaling the Cowboys from 2 years ago.
That being said, this is clearly Rosenhaus trying to get the Bengals to open their checkbooks a little more

  31. go big green says: Jul 27, 2010 9:36 AM

Mikey T looks into everything and thats all this will be. There is no room for him on this team with Stone-Hands, Cotchery ,and Holmes.
Go to CIN and play with your boy #85. I actually hope he does go there simply for the comedic value of the two of them on the same field every day

  32. john j pileggi says: Jul 27, 2010 9:39 AM

Not a good fit. Ryan would lose his mind with T.O. They have brought in some guys who have had issues in the past, and the risk of T.O. inciting or annoying those fragile personalities is not worth the risk.

Seriously, 10-6, and losers of the wild-card game at home and you’re talking trash like that? I know times have been lean for you Bengals fans, but come on.

  34. Braylon_the_Bearded says: Jul 27, 2010 9:45 AM

God I am PRAYING that the Jets don’t sign T.O. What a waste of money that would be. I don’t even think the Bengals need him. I promise, Jordan Shipley is going to be a SUPERSTAR. He will shock the league and the Bengals will be saying “Terrell Who?”

  35. ZennyandtheBrets says: Jul 27, 2010 9:46 AM

As much as I’d love to see Ochocinco and TO on the same team, I just don’t believe it could happen.
The Jets, however, make a lot of sense. They’re going to be a winning team and it’s the one place where his antics will be overshadowed by those of his completely insane head coach.

  36. FinFan68 says: Jul 27, 2010 9:53 AM

As a Dolphin fan, I hope Owens does go to the Jets. There is no way they can get all those personalities to gel into a cohesive team. That would be the final ingredient to the massive implosion looming in the Jets near future.

  37. Chip says: Jul 27, 2010 9:54 AM

Jets with or without TO will only win 8 games this year.

Do WHAT again in 2010?…One and done?…THATS your goal?…wow…but I guess being in Cinncinati..thats a legitiment goal. I didnt even know that city existed anymore.

  39. recent says: Jul 27, 2010 9:57 AM

Everybody seems to list the Jets WRs as Holmes, Edwards, Cotchery. Holmes hasn’t played a game for the Jets and is suspended 4 weeks, and Edwards was outplayed by Cotchery the vast majority of last year, so I think Cotchery deserves much more respect than being an afterthought at WR3.
All Cotchery does is catch every ball thrown his way, run crisp routes, play with a ton of heart every down, and stay out of trouble. I’ll bet he leads the Jets in catches this year, even if they other two get all the attention. Dustin Keller may even finish 2nd.

  40. KoaMisiFan says: Jul 27, 2010 9:57 AM

Whatever happened to the Mark Brunnel signing? Is this just another case of the jests getting their name in the media? But I hope they do sign T.O.

  41. aligreene says: Jul 27, 2010 10:01 AM

hes better than all the jet recievers ,but can they all play together and form a chemistry

  42. Patsfan1776 says: Jul 27, 2010 10:02 AM

As a Pats fan I hope the Jets pick him up. I think the chaos he causes on a team will be worth 4 games in NYC. Buffalo didn’t have the media atmosphere of the big towns and TO just flat out sucked up there but in the big markets he not only sucks but causes internal strife.

  43. Spygate Operative #1 says: Jul 27, 2010 10:17 AM

Aint happenin. But it could help for the first four games. BTW Dolphins suck.

  44. The_Game_Esq says: Jul 27, 2010 10:45 AM

It would take all of 1 game of poorly thrown passes or not enough passes at all to T.O. to send this team into season long turmoil.

  45. KoaMisiFan says: Jul 27, 2010 12:55 PM

Man, could you just see one poorly thrown ball to T.O. on 3rd and whatever and him coming back the sideline jumping into Sancheezy’s face. Poor little Sancheezy would go sit on the bench and cry like a little girl until Rexy walked over and offered him a hot dog to soothe him (well, if the hot dog survived that is).
