BOTTOM LINE…… the Bengals swept the division last year and handily won the AFC North. They’ve dramatically improved their offense with Bryant, Owens, Jermaine Gresham and Jordan Shipley to run the Welker routes across the middle.
Their Top-4 Defense from last year gets back a healthy Odom (NFL sack leader when he went down), Rey Maualuga, Roy Williams from injury. They also added college football’s best pass rusher last season in Dunlap.
You tell me…. who’s the favorite?

So you truly think Antonio Bryant is a #1 receiver. In his 8 tear career he has 30 TDs, that is less than 4/ year. He has had 2 1,oo0 yard seasons. He played in 13 games last year and caught 39 passes. Plus he has knee issues.
I said that a few of the guys on my list were debatable, but I don’t think any of them would trade their #1 guy for Bryant. Especially given the youth of both Crabtree and Harvin.
Crabtree played in fewer games and had more catches and yards than Bryant last year, as a rookie. It stands to reason that he will only improve on that. Few rookie receivers come in and have an immediate impact.
Harvin also had more catches and yards than Bryant.
White had 2,400 yards and 18 TDs last two seasons. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
I still think most of those teams would stay away from Owens due to his age and character issues. The fact that no one else wanted to sign him I think proves my point.

You say this in jest, but they had a chance to sign both and didn’t…along with MOST other teams in the NFL who may have needed an improvement at wide receiver. It is “a little” telling.

Really? I understand supporting your team, but I am willing to bet there are LOTS of teams that would not want Owens or Bryant as their #1 receiver. Owens didn’t even reach 900 yards receiving last year and did not lead the team in TD’s. Bryant has injury issues and they both have character issues.

You’re an idiot Florio. The league is going to the spread offense mentality. When you’re third receiver is either Antonio Bryant or T.O. you’re sitting pretty well.
Look at the rest of the AFC North minus Cleveland. This move was simply to catch up to Baltimore and stay ahead of the Steelers in regards to the WR depth. nothing more, nothing less….

FACT…. there has never been anything to suggest that the Bengals ever wanted to cut Antonio Bryant. This is slopppy journalism. Florio may fancy himself an NFL GM, but he is not one.
FACT… the Bengals interest in T.O. was “rekindled” because they had the opportunity to get one of the most productive receivers of all time for $2mm. That is a no-brainer.
Just report a story…don’t try to create one. You’re not a very good author.
