DeSean Jackson will report on time for Eagles camp

Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson, one of the best wideouts in the NFL after only two seasons, wants a new contract.  But he has been patient, avoiding any public gripes or demands.

And so it’s not a huge surprise that, as Jordan Raanan of CSNPhilly.com reports, Jackson will report on time for the start of the veteran phase of the team’s training camp.

An unexpected decision by Jackson to skip a week of Organized Team Activities in June prompted speculation that he was thinking about taking a stand.  He won’t be, at least not yet.

A second-round pick in 2008, Jackson will earn a base salary of $600,000 in 2010, the third year of a four-year deal.

He’s gonna report to camp on time… BUT Who’s gonna throw him the ball??!?

WOW, thats soooo nice of him. What a douche,HAIL !

  3. Bigdaddy237 says: Jul 28, 2010 10:31 PM

Jackson is NOT 1 of the best WRs in the league. He is a 1 trick pony that can be shut down quite easily.

  4. Route36West says: Jul 28, 2010 10:31 PM

This is a non story. But not PFT’s fault seems like this question has been asked alot although everyone already knew the answer to it.
Desean has done everything regarding his contract exactly how you would want him to and for once Florio didnt try to make him into some kind of thug.

  6. sdffa11 says: Jul 28, 2010 10:37 PM

the front office needs to do right by him and give him a small bump in salary, similar to what the titans did for chris johnson. knowing them, they wont.

  7. Jaydub says: Jul 28, 2010 10:39 PM

And here’s a newsflash: He’ll still be a showboating bitch who can’t keep his mouth shut.
He’d fit right in with the Jests

  8. Big Tex says: Jul 28, 2010 10:46 PM

A mouthy WR who wants more money and isn’t happy with his contract. That will probably create a schism.

  9. jbruder02 says: Jul 28, 2010 10:51 PM

Come on Florio, we all know that you try to kiss Philly’s ass at every chance, but even you can’t think he’s one of the best Wr’s in the game.
The man can run one or two routes. He’s fast and HAD a QB with a big arm that could get him the ball.

  10. LE says: Jul 28, 2010 10:54 PM

What’s with all the DJax haters? The kid has been nothing but classy since entering the NFL.
And yes, like it or not, he is one of the best. Stats don’t lie, children.

  11. MacheteMouth says: Jul 28, 2010 11:41 PM

anyone that thinks the kid runs one or two routes clearly doesn’t know ball…jerry rice ran two routes neither being a “go route” and u see how he ended up…oh, by the way jerry reached out to him his last year at Cal because he saw something special in him. they continue to work out together so no coincedence he succeeds…enjoy the young man’s talents AND pay him…

  12. jbruder02 says: Jul 28, 2010 11:47 PM

IF he’s one of the best in the league I guess that puts Miles Austin and Sidney Rice also in that category since they did it for one year as well. IMO one year of stats doesn’t mean you are “one of the best” receivers in the league.

  13. Fonetik says: Jul 28, 2010 11:55 PM

Haha wow you guys sure are critical. DJax burn one (or more) of your DB’s last year?

Florio, what about the “T.O. in the making, primadonna, big whiner, holdout is coming” series of posts you made a month ago?
The kid is a team player, and has never rocked the boat since day 1. You have painted this kid in a bad light. Give the budding star some credit, will you?
    And he’s still getting better…
    KK + DJax = 13 TD’s

  16. MacheteMouth says: Jul 29, 2010 12:35 AM

    @ jbruder02,
DJAX has done it at EVERY level vs ELITE TALENT…sidney rice and miles austin have not…DJAX arguably went to the best high school football program in the country, in the most populated state, and was pronounced MR FOOTBALL for the entire state his sr year..he went on to be the ALL AMERICAN GAME MVP and an all american career at Cal…sidney rice and austin do NOT have that pedigree…he also was a state champion track athlete and could’ve played pro baseball…totally diff pedigree than those dudes

  17. SwedishMurderMachine says: Jul 29, 2010 12:45 AM

You might not like the guy but i bet you would draft him in FF.

“What’s with all the DJax haters? The kid has been nothing but classy since entering the NFL.”
Yeah, loved the way he said the Eagles would “sting they ass”. “They” being the Cowboys. Big mouth.
“And yes, like it or not, he is one of the best. Stats don’t lie, children.”
The stats say he was not a top 10 WR in receiving yards and was tied for 10th with two other guys in receiving TDs.
    “jerry rice ran”
    Don’t. Even. Go. There.
“DJax burn one (or more) of your DB’s last year?”
No. In fact in three games against “my” DB’s he caught 8 passes for 98 yards.
    “KK + DJax = 13 TD’s”
Not gonna happen. The only WR that has caught 13 or more TD passes for the 0-3gles since Marion Campbell was coach in the early 80’s was TO. Before that, who knows?

  19. Hooby says: Jul 29, 2010 1:32 AM

    these comments are a joke….
    1. deseans attitude is a possible problem for the future but rite now he remains just a cocky wr…but what wr isnt
    2. jackson is nothing like TO, dont expect driveway situps
    3. jackson is not a one dimensional player, hes gone over the middle and made possession catches and taken hits
    4. kolb’s first td to jackson was a 40 yard pass, 32 yards after catch (72 yards total, math failures out there) and he has never shown evidence of lacking a deep ball power arm
    5. he may not be top 5 wrs in the nfl but he certainly is top 10 and the fact that hes only been in the nfl 2 years is even more impressive

  20. buddha says: Jul 29, 2010 1:53 AM

BIGDADDY, how is Desean a 1 trick pony? As a matter of fact, he became the first player in NFL history to be voted to the Pro-Bowl at 2 different positions, and starter at both positions at that. And oh yeah, just ask SKINSFANTOM about those 70+ yard TD runs that Desean can pull off as well. One trick pony?? STFU!!!

  21. Kay Bee says: Jul 29, 2010 2:00 AM

    Marques Colston > Desean Jackson
    Robert Meachem > Desean Jackson

  22. buddha says: Jul 29, 2010 2:20 AM

VOXVERITAS, what about Deseans performances he had vs Dallas in his rookie season?? I remeber him having some big plays in both of those games. I know he dropped the ball a little premature on one of them, but we scored on the very next play. And your reasoning for Desean not scoring 13 TDs this upcoming season is pretty lame. Just because not many Eagles have done it previously doesnt mean it wont happen this season. What an idiot! So keep googling your stats all you want, it doesnt mean shit!! And Jerry rice said Desean is the fastest WR he’s ever seen, and that Desean is also one of the best route runners he’s ever seen. Now run along and go google that interview. Or youtube it. . . . .whatever.

New to this website? You are high to even develop that opinion. One thing you will notice though is that every Eagles post results in the most hits b/c it is the whole country vs. the best fan base in the world.

  29. Dawkphan says: Jul 29, 2010 8:35 AM

DeSean has said all along that he would not be a distraction , and would not hold out, so how is this news? You may not believe that he’s one of the best receivers in the NFL but I’m happy with him and so are many people. Yes he is a showboat at times but he has never been a problem so stop trying to create a controversy! I think it’s funny that all the haters out there would love to have him on your teams, but since he’s not you classify him as a mouthy , money grubbing , one trick pony. Hold your head high Djax , the haters will keep hatin!

  31. WildBirdOffense says: Jul 29, 2010 8:52 AM

Funny how Vox will only use last year as an example. What about his rookie year VOX? When he burned the entire Cowboys secondary and McNabb actually got him the ball?
A receiver can only do so much. The QB has to get him the ball. McNabb didn’t do it when it mattered….which is why he’s gone.

I love reading comments from people who have little to no actual knowledge of the sport. The West Coast Offense run by the Eagles has never highlighted a particular player (maybe with the exception of 2004 with TO). Yet, they’ve played in 5 NFC Championship games since Andy arrived in Philly with his rendition of the West Coast O.
The guy MAY end up having one or two 1,000 yard seasons in Philly during his career but he’ll never be that stat flashy receiver you are all expecting. This offense won’t allow that to happen when your running back averages 500+ yards receiving out of the backfield each season and 6-10 different targeted receivers during a game.
He’s a hell of a player, don’t get me wrong. He’s extremely athletic, fast, and agile. He’s a still a great receiver despite his demeanor and attitude.

  34. birdmancometh says: Jul 29, 2010 8:59 AM

Yeah, you guys are probably right. He’s a terrible receiver. Ha, damn. Anybody here actually pay attention to football games, or is it just about making bad jokes on PFT?

  38. Krow says: Jul 29, 2010 9:20 AM

He’s on the wrong team if he expects to squeeze them for money. He’d better get his a’ss into camp. The Eagles don’t play that game.

  39. Heywood Jablowme says: Jul 29, 2010 9:48 AM

    @ SMUGGS1 – Good one ya’ bastard!
But that was last year. I think he did well the previous year and who knows about this year. I’m an eagles fan through and through but my expectations aren’t that high this year. Maybe 8-8 or 9-7. There has to be some growing pains with Kolb right? The Eagles front office won’t admit it but they are rebuilding.

  40. Philly Cheese says: Jul 29, 2010 9:56 AM

    Hey Vox,
Great job cherry picking your stats. You want to talk about classy young recievers, lets talk about about your boy Dez in two years and see where he stands.
…and Larry Hoover – watch and learn, KK will open some eyes and put up some numbers. The reievers love him for a reason, because he is accurate and gives them a chance to make plays after the catch. McNabb’s passes were too often low and not in stride with his target, effectively killing any momentum just to make the catch.

  43. josh2otter says: Jul 29, 2010 10:28 AM

Kolb is 25, DJax is 23… McNabb is now 33
Kolb, in 2 games starting with Desean gave Djax 10 receptions, 250 yards and 2 TDs. One start against the eventual SB champs with limited reps because McNabb was still ‘questionable.’
So what’s that for an entire season? 1,600+ yards and 16 TDs?
And now he gets to actually start in CAMP and in the preseason, amazing, imagine what he could do. DJax and Kolb will get the respect they deserve.

  44. KolbFan says: Jul 29, 2010 10:33 AM
