Tom Cable announced on Wednesday what appeared fairly obvious on draft day: Jason Campbell is Oakland’s starting quarterback.
Cable kept the notion alive during the offseason that Bruce Gradkowski could compete for the starting job, but a torn pectorals muscle kept the Polish Popgun from getting acclimated into offensive coordinator Hue Jackson’s new offense.
The arrival of the Jason Campbell era has ushered in some new found confidence in Oakland. Cable said Wednesday, “I know we’re going to be a good team. I’m not afraid to say that.”
Campbell only has to be average to give them a shot.
NEWS FLASH!!
good for them and good for him. i dont think he will too many wins but then again he only got 4 last year so maybe he can beat that total..
Can’t wait to see what the Pats do with the top ten pick they get from Oakland.
Jason Campbell gets nod over injured career backup QB.
Time to celebrate Raiders fan!!!
Oakland will challenge for a wildcard spot this year.
RAIDERS……………………playoff bound
Go RAIDERS!!!!!!
DUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHH!
You mean they werent’ going to resign Jabustus Russell before training camp so he could be their savior? (again)
Campbell is gonna light it up. Even with a semi-competent QB (Gradkowski) the Raiders did well. Campbell is more than competent.
Raiders will at least hit 8-8…better watch out.
As much as he underperformed is Washington, I’m glad to see that he got what he wanted: a starting job somewhere. Give ‘em hell, Jason.
C’mon, you almost have to root for this team to turn it around a bit. They’ve been down long enough.
Good for Jason, he’s finally with a team that has confidence in him and actually wants him. I wish him all the best! The guy never got a fair shot in DC, becuz he was running for his life the entire time.
he will get to continue running for his life in oakland.
This is my darkhorse team to win the west. Chiefs and Broncos are rebuilding, and the Chargers are missing their main WR and left tackle, with a rookie running back.
15-1 odds to win the division is worth a 10$ bet.
Cambell needs to be a lot better than average for them to get a shot at being a good team…
Lol we all knew that Campbell would be the starter.
We have a legitimate, respected leader at the most important position on the field. Look out America – the sleeper has awakened.
Decent QB but Raiders syle will be ” play not to lose rather than play to win ” as they simply do not have the guns to dominate.
Wow, what a shock, Jason Campbell is going to start, jeez
seriously, i dont see him being great (as some Raiders fans think), BUT he’s an improvement from what they had and i could see them winning more games because of it. Campbell is average, so he will put up average numbers, BUT the Raiders running game will help them win games and Campbell won’t throw as much interceptions as Russell did
Jason Campbell will do fine in Oakland. He had 2 problems in DC, a crap O-line and a coach that was too dumb to put him in the shot gun to compensate for a crap o-line.
I was really looking forward to witnessing the spectacle of the legendary Gradkowski/ Heyward-Bey connection for years to come.
freddy kruegger
lol JASON CAMPBELL! He’s a great guy! Poor guy has had about 16 OC’s now! Hopefully he can keep him up right he gets nervous fast. All the Raiders need is some hope and they have that with Jason Campbell.
Jason Campbell is a great fit for what Hue Jackson wants to do on offense. The thing I like about Oakland is they have big WRs, Redskins never did, it’s gonna help JC a lot. I’ll say 8-8 for the Raiders.
I am a skins season ticket holder and a fan for over 30 years. I can tell you that Jason is the worst QB I’ve ever seen with 50 starts. All the blame is given to the O-line and the changing coordinators however there have been games where he hasn’t been sacked and his numbers were stilll poor. He has had 2 years in Saunders and 2 years in Zorn’s system and regressed as the season went on. He only has 5tds outside the red zone in 2 seasons! Last season he was being outplayed by Gradkowski until he was injured. Trust me Raider fans, you will be screaming for him to get benched by week 7. He won’t make a play or even try to make a play. Down by 2 scores in the 4th and its 3rd and ten with a blitz? get ready for the check off underneath. Yeah! no interception, let’s punt.
Screw the usual haters who jump on every Raider thread with their usual childish crap. Hey, where’s armpats?
I think Gradkowski should have been given a fair shot, after what he did for the team last year.
By the way, Seymour reported with the rookies yesterday, so he could get there asap.
redbengal, every bet is worth a 10 spot! Do it!!
But, dont be madd when they go 8-8 this season. Good defense, but i still will need to see how the offense will fair.
Mike Bush is a good RB, but McFadden is injury prone.
Great tight end, not sold on any WR on the team. And the O-line is less then impressive.
Still, they will give the AFC West a run for there money. Including the Chargers…
I am as big of a Raiders fan as they come, and I am excited about Jason Campbell being on this team. I do believe that he was made out to be an unfair scapegoat in Washington. I believe that if McNabb succeeds there this year, it is due to the revamped OL, and not so much a huge upgrade at QB.
That being said:
I think it is a bit early to say the Raiders are sure fire contenders in the West. I think it is also misinformed to say that it is a foregone conclusion they will tank. This is a team that has had a pretty damn good offseason, and should be well ahead of where they were last year. The big question is whether or not that the improvement will translate to wins.
So saying “the Silver and Black is back,” or “10-6, AFC West Champs” is premature. But also saying “The Patriots will enjoy their top 10 pick in 2011″ is a bit brash, and is being said only to demean-not as a legitimate, fact based prediction.
Come on everyone-level your heads.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i–9yYtk9CI …… great jamarcus russell video!!! check it out!!!
Jason, good luck. Your 8-8 season will not include a win in week 1 in Titan Town.
Titans 1-0
Oakland 0-1
CJ=200+ total yards
Shocker. I think the Raiders will actually be contenders this year.
Campbell is thanking God that Gradkowski tore his boob muscle. Otherwise, with the finish Gradkowski turned in last year, he would be the starter.
I love how Raiders fans think Jason Campbell is their saviour. He couldn’t do much in DC and had a better surrounding cast. Maybe he’ll play better with a white guy with an eye patch on his helmet than he did with an Indian… er, I mean, native American on his helmet. Could be that simple, LOL.
Jason, good luck. I suspect you’ll be on your back when you visit Titan Town in WK 1.
Titans 1-0
Oakland 0-1
CJ-200+ yards all day
Doesnt matter who starts, they will still have a losing season. Especially gonna lose against the Niners this season.
The Raiders – the only team in NFL history that upgraded to a QB that shouldn’t be in the league. Raiders are a joke, their fans are assholes, and the owner is a senile old man.
“Jason, good luck. Your 8-8 season will not include a win in week 1 in Titan Town.
Titans 1-0
Oakland 0-1

This will not happen, lol. What a pipe dream.
as a avid Eagles fan, I thought this guy was a good qb with the wrong team
. Hope he does well in Oakland!
The Raiders are my surprise pick of the year for the playoffs this year..

You’re only saying that because you don’t have to live with these fans out here. The only thing that has made most of them bearable lately is the Raiders’ consistently poor record over the past several years.
If Davis gets rid of Cable and gets a good coach, the Raider Fans will probably jump up to the #3 spot on the list of Most Obnoxious Fans – right behind Queens “fans” at #1 and Cowboys fans at #2.
Good to hear for Raiders fans. Im looking forward to watching them scrap up the AFC West. Heres hoping for a Black and Orange AFC Championship game!
I warn you again raider fans, dissapointment at the qb position is inevitable with jason camsuck
Redskin fan here. If this guy could get some time (multiple years) in the same system he could do well. He has played for something like 5 different OC’s in his short career. The Skins had a washed up bingo caller brought in mid-year to call the plays and Cambell still had a solid year last year. We have had no line for years and Cambell got crushed. Hopefully the Raiders will give him a legitimate shot to lead them.
BTW, Zack Miller will blow up this year. I will definitely be targeting him late in FF.
All the blame is given to the O-line and the changing coordinators
the blame on the offensive line was good for last year, BUT not for the other years. As for the coordinator issues, there have been other passers who had different coordinators, so that’s not an excuse in my view, he should do better in Oakland because McFadden is what Campbell needs, a good checkdown running back.
Look at the surprise on my face :~\
Jason Campbell = Super Mediocre
He will be OK
Not great
but OK
Jason Campbell was a consummate pro with all the stuff going on in Washington. I think he is a great guy, but not a super bowl caliber quarterback……
Then again trent dilfer did it, and Rex Grossman got to one.
Anyways, CONGRATS JASON!!!
campbell is an average QB. Very timid thrower. He won’t lose games, but he won’t win them either.
He can hold onto a lead. He can move the chains. He can score. Just don’t ask him to march down the field with 4 mins left down 5 points. That is not his game.
He won’t be the hero, but he will never be the goat.
Only a Redskin or a Raider hater would call Campbell a bad QB? His numbers improved each year with a bad line and a different OC every year, midgets for WR and a West Coast offense that called for those dumpoffs!! The D got better but the running game got worse which in turn means more passing less running with a bad line and average as an overstatement WRs!! Which equals 4-12 not to mention an owner who threw away money on washed up free agents trying to get a quick fix!!
If the fans are counting on Jason Shambles I feel bad for you. Doesnt matter what system he was in. He’s clueless on the field. Cant blame the line for all of the hits he took.
Don’t disregard Bruce Almighty as a factor in case of injury/performance. Guy was very solid when he stepped in last year. Excited to see what Campbell can do but BG deserves some respect too.
Road kill behind that OL.
This is starting to solidify my belief of a Raiders/Browns AFC Championship game… with of course Lions/Rams squaring off in the NFC…
As a Raider fan I am just happy we will have a competent QB behind center. We can actually open up the playbook. My concern is still the O-Line. The Raiders have some youngsters that could break out with a QB like Campbell throwing to them. Louis Murphy and Chaz Schilenz should put up solid numbers. I think TE Zach Miller makes the pro bowl this year. The thing that excites me as a Raiders fan this year is our defense. We have major depth on the line and our LBs have been upgraded significantly. I’m very excited to see how this unit plays. We shouldn’t have trouble stopping the run this year.
Campbell a solid quarterback. The only problem that I see with my Raiders is the O-line. While I try to persuade myself that Mario Henderson wasn’t the worst overall tackle last year (profootballfocus.com), I have concerns about the right tackle spot also.
If those two positions hold up, and the foot of Chaz Schilens, this team has a chance to become a good offense.
Also, don’t forget about MCFadden’s receiving ability. While he may be a so called “bust”, there’s no doubt that he brings a wide skill set to the offense. There’s no reason why this offense can’t be in the top 15, but we’l have to see it on the field first.
Jaworski was the Polish Rifle and Gradkowski is the Polish Popgun.
I love it. “That’s gold Jerry, gold!”
Yes! Thanks for a top ten pick you guys. Good luck in 2012. tuckey, tuckey
If Jason Campbell can’t win 8 or 9 games this year … pay the big bucks AL and get Manning or Brady one of them should be available.
All you people making excuses for Campbell … he had different OC and systems every year in Washington make me laugh. I good QB can learn any system real quick. The Campbell lovers remind me of the JaMarcus lovers … keep making excuses for these QBs because of their color.
Let’s give the bad offensive line a rest.
The #1 QB last year Aaron Rodgers had the WORST OL … hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Campbell is a great QB over the last one, What’s his name.
Go Dallas!
I am not a Raiders fan, but I do believe he is a big step up from JaForkedUs and Bruce Almighty. He was a victim of 4 coaches in 4 years, and Shanahan wanting to trade for Donavan McNabb. Give him some stability and a descent OL and he will produce. Raider fans, I feel you, but I believe you’re on the way back. Have to take the 1st step, before climbing the mountain.
who cares 2011 lockout is inevitable

Geez, ya think? If you had been forced to eat dog crap for three years and someone was kind and fed you Spam, wouldn’t you be grateful?
After JailBustus, we view any quarterback with a pulse as a major upgrade.
He has had 2 years in Saunders and 2 years in Zorn’s system and regressed as the season went on.
———————————————–
Actually his stats improved every year, no matter who the coach was…
Regarding those who seem to think that Washington has no size at WR; Devin Thomas is 6’2″. Malcolm Kelly is 6’4″. Not saying they’re good, but they aren’t small. The Raiders WRs still have a great deal to prove themselves.
Tango you illiterate jackass. Still showing off your stupidity to the world, huh? What exactly is a “syle”? As if your pathetic spelling isn’t bad enough you come up with more of your idiotic, unsubstantiated and just plain stupid drivel with “the Raiders play not to lose rather than play to win”. What article of Florio’s did you steal that gem from? Get a life you loser, and see if you can sell your Raiders season TICKEKs (since that’s how you think the word is spelled) you moronic loser.
Hey, PFT, Oakland signed Rolando McClain…..Thought I’d be the first to report it on here =]

and Louis Murphy a rookie had a better season then both with a terrible QB!
Let’s give the bad offensive line a rest.
The #1 QB last year Aaron Rodgers had the WORST OL … hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
And that OL wasnt the worse by the numbers and what did it get that number 1 QB sacked in OT of a playoff game resulting in a touchdown and an exit to the off season
@The Real Shuxion
cant wait to see if they even play football next year.
@joetoronto
Murphy; 84th in yardage
Chaz; 117th in yardage
Higgins; 151st in yardage
Bey; 228th in yardage
Kelly; 122nd in yardage
Thomas; 135th in yardage
Looks like 6 of a kind to me, but YMMV.
