Flozell Adams joins the Steelers

The Steelers have signed a rather intriguing option to fill their massive hole at tackle.

Flozell “The Hotel” Adams signed a multi-year deal with Pittsburgh, according to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network.  Jay Glazer of FOX has confirmed the move.  The longtime Dallas Cowboy has lost a step, but still remains a force in the running game and upgrades a thin position for the Steelers.

Pittsburgh has reportedly yet to determine what side of the line Adams will play, but Max Starks and Adams figure to be the two starters no matter how they line up.  La Canfora guesses that Max Starks could move back to right tackle, a position he played during the 2006 Super Bowl season.

He’s (as Justin Tuck of the NYG once said) a dirtbag and cheap-shot artist. He’ll fit right in with Hines Ward and James “HGH” Harrison! He’s also a big dude, maybe he can stand guard outside of public restroom doors and run interference for Ben!

With Ben out for 4-6 games….with Santonio and the big play gone…..the Steelers go back to Noll/Cowher grind it out run offense that sucks the air out of the clock. Their counting on Troy and Aaron Smith to return them to the league’s top defense. If you can make first downs and eat clock all the Bouldins and Ochochinkos can never get back on the field. Suddenly, I think the O-Line doesn’t look like a laibility anymore.

Alternatively, they may just let Flo occupy the center and both guard positions simultaneously. A “noseguard”. Which would definitely come in handy in Pittsburgh.

    2005 SB season.
Now the Steelers don’t have to worry about a bad line supporting the heavy running they’re going to be doing in the first 4 weeks. Kemoeatu, Pouncey and Adams are all maulers.

Perfect fit. A guy who can’t do anything without holding goes to a team who can’t be called for holding in moments that matter. Hey, they have a lot of “fans” so the NFL HAS to rig their games, right? Yeah, it’s ridiculous, but it’s exactly what happens. This is a team who, without rigging, MAYBE goes .500 since 2005, has zero rings, and MAYBE two playoff wins.

  34. DanRooney says: Jul 29, 2010 8:40 PM

They can’t call holding penalties on Adams as long as he’s playing for the Steelers. It will be too obvious that something is fishy with all holds against James Harrison that the refs never call.

  38. 60minuteassassin says: Jul 29, 2010 8:59 PM

This was a no brainer for the Steelers. However, I think a one year contract is in order for Adams as he is clearly on the downside of his career, but they are desperate.

  39. DirtDawg55 says: Jul 29, 2010 9:00 PM

ccoolahan also believes in the tooth fairy, thinks he has a chance to date Princess Leia, is trying to get his science grades up so he can qualify for the Star Trek Academy, claims to have been abducted and probed by aliens (and loving it!) and actually believes Extenze can help him with his sex life (which largely consists of pounding a series of plushy toys)
Please. No rational person believes in the tired old conspiracy theories. It’s a figment of small and feeble minds to try and deal with the vast difference between superior teams and lacklustre teams. Every team that wins, cheats.
Of course, all of this is a denial of the truth. In 2009 Pittsburgh was 9th from the bottom in penalties per game and didn’t qualify for the playoffs. The year before, when they won the Super Bowl, they were 12th overall in most penalties called. Wow, that’s come great conspiracy they have going on there!
And if the most popular teams get to win all the time then explain how come the Bears haven’t won in ages, or how the Packers had a twenty year period where they barely sniffed the playoffs never mind the Super Bowl, or how the Cowboys haven’t won since 1995 or how even the Steelers went dry for most of the 1980s.
Listen. When stupid people try to prove something they only end up proving they are stupid.

  40. hitdog042 says: Jul 29, 2010 9:01 PM

Adams is horrible. Yes he can run block. He also hands the defense 10 yards routinely and sometimes 15. He also can’t pass protect. The biggest issue in Pitt.
Steeler fans are funny. Owens a bad move for cincy and clammor how nobody wanted him. Nobody wanted Adams either. Lmfao.

How about the last Super Bowl when they called holding on Steelers twice in the last five minutes. Once to give AZ a safety. And the other one to make them go 90 yards for that fabulous game-winning TD.
I’d say those two calls were in moments that mattered…

Tell us, or wise ccoolahan14 (is 14 your age?), this league edict that the Steelers must win – from where does this get handed down? The league’s secret office in Area 51? Are the secret plans delivered by black helicopters? You better investigate this, and that darned faked moon landing. (And get on it quick – school goes back into session soon.)

  43. Jodog says: Jul 29, 2010 9:13 PM

Steelers suck. Fans are retards whose whole sense of self-worth is based on how well their hockey and football teams do.

  44. Spoonthis says: Jul 29, 2010 9:29 PM

It does seem like a desperate move because if they were impressed with him a month ago, they would have signed him when Colon got hurt. Not much available talent left at the beginning of training camp so at least they signed an experienced run blocker. Like DanRooney said, holding / tripping calls don’t happen very much during Steeler games, especially when Harrison is on the field so hopefluuly the refs wil overlook Flo’s tripping habit. I’ll take experience anyday over unproven talent. I don’t expect miracles from Flo, but I think he can help improve the current lineup. God I hate the Cowboys.

  45. drumbug71 says: Jul 29, 2010 9:34 PM

Sucks for the Offensive Line…even if he is an upgrade, the refs are behind the QB this year, I think, so they’re going to be able to see holding a LOT easier than in the past. If Flozell was called that much before, how much more could he be called this season?
ccoolahan14 — it would be interesting to see a team be under .500 (“MAYBE goes .500 since 2005″) and still get 2 playoff wins in the modern NFL.

I look forward to reading the articles here after the Steelers make an acquisition. Rosenthal has a talent for turning any steelers news into a positive. I will probably have my account suspended for writing this. I had it suspended for calling Rosenthal a Steelers homer and i did not write anything racist or offensive and i did not curse or threaten violence. I simply called Rosenthal and Florio Steelers homers and I was suspended. They are running this site like Dan Snyder runs the sports radio in Washington.

More than a few teams are crying that they lost out on Adams. I can’t believe that the Cowgirls cut him over what amounted to about $2 million in salary.
This is a step up from Colon. This guy is a bulldozer and mean. The Steelers are proud to announce the return of their running game.
    Another great Steelers move.

Hope they did a multi-year deal so we’re not paying much per season. We can always cut him before the contract’s up. Glad to have a savvy vet on that line. But his tripping of Justin Tuck last season was almost as blatant as the jewel thief repeatedly tripping the socialite in the old comedy “What’s Up, Doc?” If he pulls any crap like that this year, I hope Kugler or Tomlin give him a swift kick in the backside. That was ridiculous.
