Joe McKnight's rough introduction to the NFL continues

Jets rookie running back Joe McKnight will never get another chance to make a first impression in the NFL, and his first impression included him vomiting and cramping throughout rookie minicamp.

McKnight talked this summer about wanting to change his public perception, but now he’s got a rough second impression to overcome.

The Jets announced on Thursday that McKnight failed his conditioning test to open training camp Thursday, and was placed on the active/PUP list.  We’re used to seeing defensive tackles like Terrence Cody fail the test, but it’s rare to see a rookie running backs so out of shape.

We give Jets fans about two games before they really start missing Leon Washington.

Does this mean he won’t get a Super Bowl ring?

  2. majorlots says: Jul 29, 2010 9:03 PM

no worries, they brought in LT to carry the franchise on his back, 200 carries for 250 yards for the 2010 season…shonn green will be fine.

Wow. Typical jests post!!!!! What a bunch of losers. Didn’t I read about Rexy talking about what a great impression he made? Does Rexy like vomit?

Blah blah Jets, blah blah Jets are unbelievable… Blah blah this is the year they take down the Patriots…
All the Jets hype would be a tad more impressive if we didn’t hear it EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

  9. margra says: Jul 29, 2010 9:26 PM

Tell him to call McNabb. He can give him some pointers on how to overcome vomiting.

  10. jcjets says: Jul 29, 2010 9:31 PM

this is pathetic. how can you be a running back and be that out of shape? Plus the dude was a 4th rounder..not like he was a high draft pick. he must have a horrible work ethic. not good!

  11. JasonW says: Jul 29, 2010 9:32 PM

As a jet fan this guy is crap. Over hyped before he went USC and now this. I really hope shonn green is really good or we have no run game. Yes, LT is done.

  12. NYCharger says: Jul 29, 2010 9:33 PM

Nice running backs. LT will retire before the season starts cause he won’t play much, Puck McKnight, and Shonn—he will get a lot of rest on the bench with the Jets 3 and outs watching the opponent go up and down the field, running at Cromartie. Wait: run at Cromartie and it’s a TD.

  13. Ravenmuscle says: Jul 29, 2010 9:35 PM

Will we get to see a slo-mo replay of McKnight barfing on Hard Knocks?
Got to get my popcorn ready if they do.

  14. odds75to1 says: Jul 29, 2010 9:35 PM

dumbest thing the Jets did offseason (and there were a lot) was getting rid of Leon

  15. HarrisonHits says: Jul 29, 2010 9:35 PM

    @JasonW
Hey he still has a decent chance at leading the league in whining…..

  16. SomeFans says: Jul 29, 2010 9:49 PM

Oh… the jets are just pathetic… too bad that “big talk” mean so very little in the NFL. Thats is the only thing they are good at.

  17. ingreenmts says: Jul 29, 2010 9:56 PM

    Runningbacks that are done:
Leon Washington – Did you see that thing snap?
Thomas Jones – It was the OLINE not Jones. John Elway to day could have gained 1000 yards behind that line. See how many yards he gets behind the KC line…..

  18. FumbleNuts says: Jul 29, 2010 9:56 PM

By mid-season RB Leon Washington will be running fast and strong for the Seahawks.
    Mark that down.

  19. Karlos Long 5877 says: Jul 29, 2010 9:58 PM

Hahaha….. Possibly one of the most overrated franchises in NFL history prior to the start of the season. A bunch of overrated individuals with no class, and no game! 8-8 would be an accomplishment for this group of morons. Mark it!

  20. username says: Jul 29, 2010 10:00 PM

I guess Rex’s speech to during minicamp in which he said, “I want to you to train as hard as I do between now and training camp” was taken literally.

  21. KoaMisiFan says: Jul 29, 2010 10:05 PM

Whoa Whoa Whoa. What is this I’m reading? Jests fans admitting they have flaws? My beating heart be still!!!!!!
Ravenmuscle — that would be the best Hard Knocks ever to be on tv if they do that. Well, maybe the second best if Rexy also pukes his guts out (if the field can hold that much).
Hey, where’s NYJESTSALLFingDay and HellRElle24 and all the other jests fans to put a positive spin on all this? You know, like puking is just a good part of training camp and all that?

  22. NYJALLFINGDAY says: Jul 29, 2010 10:16 PM

I never liked this draft pick at all. Hopefully he does better, but I don’t know about this kid, not liking him.

  32. andrew32287 says: Jul 30, 2010 12:24 AM

You do realize that, back at the start of training camp in either 2007 or 2008, Leon Washington also had similar conditioning problems? On the first day he couldn’t even practice…
Pretty sure we won’t be missing him.

A running back not passing the running conditioning test? Oh well, Tanny only used two of their five picks to get him. OK, glad to see that’s going well.

  35. monropoobah says: Jul 30, 2010 4:17 AM

i feel like i’ve been predicting the jets will be 10-6 every year for many years. made it a couple of times. if that’s the ‘hype’ you miami and ne guys call out i can see your being bugged by it after a while. i LOVE the attitude ryan brings because its like saying enough of the bs; if the organization has been sometimes snakebit, it doesn’t have to continue. EVERYTHING out of the jets points to a new level of commitment to winning a super bowl. will they this year? really have no clue. but they have as much reason as any nfl team to see it as a realistic goal (and to understand that seeing it as a realistic goal is part of what’s needed for getting there).
i hope mia fans are right about henne and co. and that ne is at it’s best. i think you’re gonna need it. go jets!

You aren’t kidding that it’s challenging. With all the stupid jests fans on here of course it’s a helluva challenge to be a moron. Weren’t you one of the many many jests fans talking about how great Tannebaum is? What’s wrong? Can’t accept the truth when someone points it out that the jests are a total joke?

  38. joey-pickles says: Jul 30, 2010 7:43 AM

About the only confirmed bad trade/release that Tanny has made was getting rid of Pennington. Find me any other, I dare you…

  39. Don says: Jul 30, 2010 8:37 AM

No Rosenthal, Jets fans could care less. This guy may have 4 or 5 carries a game tops and even you could do that in your shape.

  40. Bleeding Green says: Jul 30, 2010 8:44 AM

You Miami fans are great. The Dolphins signed their rookies and instead of posting in those blogs, you clowns spend ALL OF YOUR TIME pissing on the Jets. You donkeys are really pathetic. As for Leon, I know I’ll miss him. When he was healthy he was the Jets best player and one of my personal favorites. Joe McKnight is Maurice Clarrett junior.

  41. 123456 says: Jul 30, 2010 9:53 AM

So instead of Miami fans worrying about their players beating up pregnant women or the team stiffing the players after they assault their better halves….they piss all over themselves about a rookie RB puking at training camp.
Is everyone in Florida dumb white trash?

  42. KoaMisiFan says: Jul 30, 2010 10:05 AM

You stupid jests fans are the biggest crybabies I’ve ever seen in my life. Guess after 41 years of being mediocre it’s to be expected. You whine because we Fin fans come onto the jests articles to get a good laugh, yet you idiots post on the Fins articles as well. Learn to live with it or move on. And I can’t believe you fools keep bringing up one bad player (yeah, Merling is a scumbag for what he did) and tend to forget that your new WR posted in cyberspace his favorite hobby of puff puff pass. Not to mention Edward’s infamous beating of someone half his size. Big man there!!!!!!! And even some of the smarter jests fans are saying it’s pathetic for a RB to be out of shape. Didn’t Rexy let him know that training camp was coming soon?

  43. KoaMisiFan says: Jul 30, 2010 10:07 AM

    From the Friday morning one-liners:
“Jets WR Jerricho Cotchery wants to be a stand-up comic.”
Man, is he ever on the right team!!!!!!

disagree, Greene is great and if McKnight can turn it around, he will be fine too, plus i am sure the Redskins would make a trade for McKnight if the Jets dont want him
(” Joe McKnight is Maurice Clarrett junior.”)
have to disagree here. McKnight is WAY faster than Clarrett and unlike Clarrett, he hasnt been in the legal trouble Clarrett has been in. McKnight will be all right, he was picked where he deserved to be picked.

Yep, the AFC championship is up for grabs and any of the 3 teams can win it depending how their “luck”(injuries) holds out.
I am a bit tired of listening to all the Jets and Dolphins fan talk all this crap though. Let’s face it, both franchises could be good this year, but have been mediocre for most of the last 10 years, with a couple of exceptions. Jets had a good playoff run last year. Fins had a good regular season the previous one.
IMO the only people that can talk crap in the AFC are the Pats fans, and this is coming from a Fins fan.
They have been dominant since BB took over. It does seem that maybe all his trading down lately has bitten him in the ass though, but we’ll see.

Wait a minute. All I’ve read is that Sancheezy has to be excused because he was a rookie so allllllll those INTs were just a result of his being a rook. Then you have the ‘nads to talk about Misi not impressing? But I’ve read just as many reports that he IS impressing so you believe what you read and I’ll believe what I read. But, I was a big OJ McDuffie fan as well. Jim “Crash” Jensen too.
p.s. — at least he’s not puking his guts up though.
