All Ted Fans: There is only one measure of a good team in this league, and that is championships.
Ted, despite five years running two separate franchises, has yet to come close to winning one. That is not the mark of a good GM. If you are going to be satisfied with the annual playoff losses Ted is famous for, you might as well all go be Viking fans.
…and please, take Ted with you. He’s done far more to put good talent in Minnesota than he has in Green Bay anyhow.

Awesome FavreBlows, Ted won a meaningless award, and followed up that ground breaking, award winning season with… a 6-10 dud.
You know, Lindy Infante once won the NFL Coach of the Year award, so I guess that means he’s a great coach, right? So did Ray Rhodes, Dick Jauron, and Lovie Smith. All first ballot hall of famers, I’m sure.

Brees, Pierre Thomas, Shockey (trade), Jon Goodwin, Remi Ayodele, Anthony Hargrove, Bobby McCrayScott Fujita, Jon Vilma (trade), Scott Shanle (trade), Randall Gay, Jabari Greer, and Darren Sharper.
These guys were all starters for the Super Bowl champs, and not one of them was drafted by the Saints. 13 of 22 starters, the core of the Champs.

Of course his first year was evaluation, according to you. I suppose imploding the offensive line was just “evaluation”? Leaving the 4-12 off does nothing for me, it’s just you trying to justify your Teddy love by trying to wish away his futility.
But let’s do things your way, only use 4 years, not including the first, which would start us off in ’93 for Wolf, seeing as how he was not acting GM until the 1992 season.
Not one season worse than 9-7, 2 division titles, multiple playoff wins, and a Super Bowl win. 44-22, 51-29 if you count the first year, taking over a 4-12 team.
Ted has one division title, 1 playoff win, 1 losing season, and an 8-8 year, and no Super Bowls. 38-26, 42-38 if you count first year, taking over a 10-6 team.
So what point were you trying to make?

Just reading your screen name gave me a pretty good idea of the level of intelligence I was dealing with, but the first paragraph in that post really drove it home. You don’t need a billionaire owner backing you up in the NFL. Unlike baseball, where money talks, the NFL, up until this year, has had a salary cap, and revenue sharing, which puts every team on a level playing field.
This is why small market teams, like New Orleans, Pittsburgh, and Atlanta can remain competitive with teams from New York, Dallas, and Chicago. So there is no reason for Ted to be so frugal. He just has a strong desire to draft his own guys, and doesn’t care that the Packers have been and will continue to be a mediocre team under his watch.

thanks FavreBlows, i give you credit for admitting that seriously. but the point is that the free agent picks have been a huge part of it. spielman’s draft picks, free agent picks and trades have all been golden and that’s the best way to build a team, upgrading the roster by all 3 means at your disposal.
free agency is like the draft, it only works if you use it wisely. dan snyder has used it horribly but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use it anymore than you shouldn’t use the draft just because al davis uses it horribly. that’s all i’m saying. and i’m not saying that thompson is the worst gm in the league either, he’s made some good picks like rodgers and matthews.
it’s just that to me, snyder and thompson are the 2 extremes as far as free agency and both are wrong, you have to be somewhere in between those two.

TT is just fine as GM. He prefers to build mainly through the draft, but he has been very effective in building what is now one of the most talented rosters in football. And the comment that he doesn’t spend money is lacking merit for a couple of reasons……they tend to spend money in re-signing their own……and he has to be a bit more careful than most. He doesn’t have a billioinaire named Zigmund backing him up.
I will give you this. The Vikings management decisions over the past five years have been simply F’n golden. Everything they have touched has turned to gold. That is extremely rare in this league and to claim that it is evidence that FA spending is the key to success…….well then you haven’t been paying attention to Daniel Snyder the past decade.
And I will always say that TT’s decision to first draft Rodgers, and then tell Favre to F-off, will go down as one of the best, and courageous management decisions in NFL history.

I stopped cheering for the Pack, and so I decided to root for Favre. He left the Jets, and I had no other ties to them, so I chose to root for Favre when he went to the Vikings. I was impressed with what I saw from the management, and how they seemed to actually value winning. So, like I’ve said to you many times, I’m a Viking fan, and will be when Favre hangs it up.
But keep rehashing this pointless argument, as it seems to be the only ammo you have to use against me.
And to clarify, Ragnar once stated he was your “friend.” But it’s quite clear he doesn’t really like you, it seems like a pity friendship to me. Maybe they let you hang around because of all the free curly fries you give them.

i don’t blame packer fans for pretending they don’t mind never getting pro bowl players through trades or free agency (except for woodson, 1 in 5 years) but obviously you would be dancing in the streets to have a gm who signed or traded for free agents like steve hutchinson, jarred allen, pat white, antoine winfield, brett favre, not to mention a gm who has picked 4 1st round picks and 2 of them have been rookie of the year, plus a 2nd round pro bowler like sid rice.
anyone who says they’re glad they don’t have free agents like hutchinson, allen, etc. are just not telling the truth. but since you have a gm who isn’t gonna sign pro bowl free agents, you might as well pretend you like it. it’s not like you can force him to change.

brent, the problem with the packers is that thompson is just too cheap, he will never pull the trigger on deals that could put them in the super bowl. that (and his bad drafting) is why your o-line was in a shambles last season, he wouldn’t sign anybody to fill the holes. same thing with your lack of pass rush this year, your special teams, your secondary – he doesn’t bring in people to fill obvious holes.
i can understand majik bullet switching teams when there’s a gm that he sees ruining his team. you guys never used to have losing seasons before thompson came did you? and under thompson you’ve only had 2 winning seasons in 5 years and only won 1 playoff game.
i’m sure thompson doesn’t suck on purpose but jesus look at his results. his biggest problems that i see are that he’s cheap, lazy and stupid. seriously, as long as he is your gm, viking fans feel safe that we’ll keep on winning the division year after year.
