Turning water into wine might be easier than turning Tim Tebow’s five-year contract into a $33 million deal.
The Broncos signed the No. 25 overall pick to a contract with a base package of $11.25 million, and an “absolute maximum” of $33 million.
To get close to all that money, a source with knowledge of the situation said Tebow will “have to make Peyton Manning look like a fool.”
Tebow’s incentives are broken down into playing time and performance escalators. If Tebow can reach every playing time trigger and become the consistent starting quarterback (possibly soon), he could make up to $24 million over five years.
Another $9 million is tied up in escalators for difficult goals like Pro Bowls, playoff wins, and Super Bowl appearances.
Our understanding is that Tebow’s camp was willing to take $11.25 million as the base salary because they expect he will become the starting quarterback and that number will become moot.
Now all Tebow has to do is prove Josh McDaniels right, and prove just about everyone else wrong.
More than likely we’re looking at a 5 year-$19 million deal. Mark my words, he will end up with at least a pro bowl quality career, if not back to winning those championships like he’s used to. Go get em Timmy Tebow, been truckin since the Nease days.
start him by week 3!!! there is no way you pay a back up QB that kind of money no to start!!!
As they say in the NBA..Its Garbage Time…First we saw Mark Brunell…then T.O.,,,now Flozelll…can ADALIUS be far behind?
Tebow = Fail/Bust

_________
He will need to walk on water to achieve those elements of his contract.
This is exactly what I posted last night and sure enough, the Broncos were smart enough to do exactly as I said.
let the games and competition begin………..
Attention Tim Tebow: Go ask Brady Quinn how those “I’m gonna be the starter soon” expectations worked out for him.
of course he wont make $33 mil because it’s half of 66 which is one 6 away from the number of the beast.
@KILLERFIN
it’s funny how our 3rd string QB is better than your 1st string hahahaha you just got T-BONED BRAH!!!!LOL
Tebow could start opening night and put in a credible performance. But Orton is really underrated and Brady Quinn is no slouch, either, so it may take awhile for him to earn the bonus money.
Way to go out on a limb Rosenthal.
Next Rosenthal will predict the Dow Jones will not go down to zero. Wait, look who’s in the White House now, umm, I take that back.
But Tebow will make a $hitload more over the next 5 years than you will Gregg.
Jesus is not happy with his son little Timmie. and has filed a formal complant with God. Hey I’m the chosen one. Am I not?
Yeah, yeah, they said that Jesus would not make it to 33 years.
That sounds like his church’s accountants crunched all those numbers.
I’m getting sick of seeing religious references every time I read an article about Tebow. If you guys don’t want to be religious, fine. That is your right. But how about showing some respect for a person who is trying to live a wholesome, moral life without mocking them at every opportunity. With all of the scum in sports you should welcome someone with some character rather than taking subtle shots at them.
Anybody’s income on this site in relation to Tewbow’s matters how?
Yes its obvious to most who have been here for more then a cup of coffee tha these announced salaries are BS inflated and fake #’s. So PFT breaks then down to the real deal. Why is it such a problem that they did it with Tebow.
Sounds to me its a dealt hat makes everyone happy. Tebow gets big money if he is a successful starter, the Broncos get to pay him less if he is not, and the agent gets to boast about $33 mil which most wont know is not realistically attainable.
It really is what rookie deals should be. A solid base that pays the guy well while the team determines if he is for real, then large esculators based on playing time. The pro Bowl and Super Bowl numbers are just candy for the agent.
$11.25 mil is not bad for someone who’ll be a back-up TE in another 3-4 years ……… Too dum to be a QB, too slow to be an RB ……… A BU blocking TE seems about right.
Tebow haters are baffling to me. The guy has won championships every time he’s been given the opportunity. No, Brady Quinn is not a starter. But Brady Quinn is not Tim Tebow. The kid is a winner.
If you want to bet against him that’s fine, but please make sure to check back in a couple years to let us know how that turns out for you.
Pro Bowl as what? TE, FB or QB. If its QB Teblow is screwed. He is about as far from a real QB as you can get.
He still got a great payday though. Since without Josh McDumbass he would not have went til the 3′rd or 4th round. Big contract difference. I am sure that cult (bible thumpers) he belongs to will appreciate that.
McDummjy has a history of reaching on draft picks. Like last years wasted effort on Smith, Ayers and Quinn.
something rubs me the wrong way about seeing a guy named rosenthal making a snide remark referencing jesus. give me a few days to find a jewish nfl player and i will come up with a creative quip.
Good to see they got him signed, now lets hope Thomas isn’t far behind and they can have everybody there for the first day of team practices on sunday.
As for everyone claiming he will be a bust or even those claiming he will be a pro bowler, give it a rest. Nobody knows how this is going to turn out, pro scouts and GMs get paid a lot of money to do what they do and even they miss on about 50% of first round QBs. Tom Brady was passed on 198 times before getting picked and I doubt many people on this board would have been saying GMs were fools to have done so at the time.
“Tim Tebow will not make $33 million”
Maybe this is better
“Gregg Rosenthal will not make $33″
I think the first one is more likely to happen. Rosenthal you are a DB.
Tebow is one of the rookies I’ll really be rooting for. I couldn’t help but become a fan of his as a college player, and I hope he brings a new face to the NFL. Religion and all aside, I think he’s one of the stand up honest hard-working players that the NFL needs right now.
So… Jesus, Raplithburger, Ray Lewis, Tebow and Belicheet go into a bar and the bartender says…
Peyton does a damn good job making himself look like a fool, he doesn’t need Tebow’s help.
For teams that failed to get their first round picks signed before Tebow, now have to suffer the consequences of that 33 million number being thrown around.
bunch of haters

Because this Tebow doesn’t respect other peoples beliefs and has a history of pushing his belief on other people. That leaves him fair game to be mocked. If he doesn’t want’ people harassing him about god he should have been harassing people about god.

AHAHAHAHAAHAAAHAAA!!!!
Tebow sucks lol. He couldn’t even win in a clutch situation in the BCS Championship. He is a very good lame duck thrower though…

I absolutely cannot wait until the ravens fail. you added one person to your offense. BOLDIN. How the hell does that make you offense much improved? Don’t say stallworth either b/c he is a joke of a wide reciever. And talking about junk didnt you guys sign a bunch of old ass d-backs with kneee problems and a washed up QB in Bulger to back up your 39.4 qb rating starting qb? You ravens fans are becoming so annoying. Your defense is another year older and your secondary is lacking. You couldn’t even stop the Bengals with their non-existant passing attack. Stupid ratbirds.
How is making the Pro Bowl difficult? Wasn’t half the league in the Pro Bowl last year because no one wanted to play.
I agree with Pete. I don’t even share Tebow’s religous beliefs but I respect the guy.
I don’t understand why so many people want to bash a guy for doing things the right way. OK the crying thing wasn’t cool, but the rest of the time he seems to be a good guy.
I’m not even religious and the constant bashing of Tebow over it gets OLD! He is doing what all Christians are supposed to do, witnessing…trying to grow the faith, trying to sell the message, trying to change opinions… which is NOTHING different than you are doing expressing your opinion trying to sway others to believe he is bad for this.
As well as being so openly religious doesn’t make him a man of character either. A man that used to be one of my best friends PREACHES it all the freaking time… all 3 of his kids went to private Christian colleges, he has regular prayer service at his house, he is a Sunday School teacher, work, church members, friends think he is the ideal man… yet secretly he has been having multiple extramarital affairs for the last 20 years. He is one of the biggest compulsive liars I have ever met. Having your public image be that you are such a great Christian gives you no more character than standing in a garage makes you a car!
The Tebow haters are so friggin’ annoying. One calls him dumb and doesn’t even spell it right. Another says he’s “about as far from a real QB as you can get.” Really? What a bunch of clowns. Go ahead and post who’s the McDumbass when you get jobs with NFL teams. Or jobs at all. Losers.

If he doesn’t like it keep is azz off of TV. Oh no, I bet he gets caught raping an animal or god forbid a human.
I wonder if Timmy s mommy is in camp with him. Crying like a biatch made my day. I guess he didn’t win every championship he had a chance to win , eh Gatorkevin??
Marcinik07
Learn something about the guy before you post dumb stuff. Go watch the 4th quarter of the ’08 SEC Championship or the 2nd half of the NC game in ’08 and tell me Tebow isn’t clutch.
Hey much……The bartender says, “What are you guys having to drink today?”.
I heard that one before.
To get close to all that money, a source with knowledge of the situation said Tebow will “have to make Peyton Manning look like a fool.”
Guess he better start training with Tracy Porter then, try to pick up tips so he can learn how to do this.
Before Tebows career in pro football is over He will be crying what Jesus did on the cross. ‘Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?- Which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me.”
I’m a Gator fan and a Tebow fan but I’m realistic for the most part…I don’t know how he’ll do in the NFL but I know it will take a lot of hard work and luck for him to succeed.
With that being said, isn’t the one thing even haters can admit about Tebow is that he works really hard? Doesn’t he seem like kind of a lucky guy? I just find it hard to believe that a guy, ANY guy, who works his ass off, naturally has great physical ability, and a positive attitude can’t succeed at some level in the NFL. Maybe not as QB…maybe at another position like so many have said. But still, the guy will have a job in the NFL and will be able to contribute in some capacity for quite a few years to come…I’ll bet you he would count that as a success.
As for all the haters (and christianity-bashers too), it’s pretty transparent really. Here’s a guy who does all the right things, says all the right things, works as hard or harder than just about everybody else, and still tries to live a wholesome life (at least publicly)…so when this guy achieves any sort of success, it shows you that it CAN be done…you can be a good person in all the right ways and it will work out for you. So when you see a guy like this, it leaves you NO excuse for yourself. There’s no reason you can’t follow this guy’s example and use it to succeed in one form or another in life, so you try to pick away at him, hoping and praying for him to stumble (as all humans do), so you can say “See! See! He’s no better than me! I told you so!”. Meanwhile the dude is making millions, everyone he meets has nothing but praise for him, he’ll be able to get a job anywhere he goes in life from now on, and to top it off there are about a million girls who are lining up to drop them for him right now. What are WE doing? Talking crap on an internet comments-board…probably on our company’s dime!

WTH are you talking about? Fire up the Google machine and show me where any of what you are saying is correct. Don’t mistake the media pushing Tebow’s beliefs down your throat as Tebow doing it himself.
No disrespect to Tebow, but the offensive system in which he played at Florida doesn’t not produce NFL caliber quarterbacks. Judging from the history of Florida quarterbacks who’ve played in the NFL, Tebow will not have much success.
Give the kid credit – too many athletes would rather take the money and “run”, so to speak.
I can’t remember too many that have been willing to put their money where their mouth is, with regards to performance.
Instead of hating, maybe we should finally accept that the kid is a good guy who’s actually trying to earn his way through.
I am not a Broncos fan but I’ll be pulling for the guy.

Why don’t you compare past Florida QBs completion percentage, TD to INT ratios, win percentage, etc with Tebows, then get back to us. I’m pretty sure past success has more to do with future success than does one’s alma mater.
