The Tampa Bay Buccaneers report to training camp today, and No. 3 overall pick Gerald McCoy won’t be there.
Although Bucs General Manager Mark Dominik is in daily contact with McCoy’s agent, Dominik sounds like he expects McCoy to miss at least some camp.
“Every day you miss of training camp hurts, especially for a rookie, and especially for a rookie playing inside like [McCoy],” Dominik told the Tampa Tribune. “Every day does make a difference. The opportunity to learn, to get the feel for the speed of the game and the intensity of it — especially with the rookies being in pads for the first time — is very important, especially for offensive and defensive linemen.”
McCoy’s college teammate Trent Williams, the No. 4 overall pick, agreed to a contract early this morning, and that should help the Bucs and McCoy come to an agreement on a floor for McCoy’s contract. But McCoy has said he wants to wait on another college teammate, No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford, to set the ceiling. So McCoy might not get his deal done any time soon.
Quite the leadership qualities being displayed here by McCoy. He waits for a different player on a different team to dictate what he’s going to do. That’s called being “Bradford’s Bitch”.
Yep…no signs of progress for this team advancing beyond anything the Culverhouse era produced. I’m sure glad ownership went with the mob mentality and ran Gru and Allen out of town.
Dammit. C’mon, Bucs. C’mon McCoy. GET IT DONE.
