The first episode of Hard Knocks should include Rex Ryan uncorking some champagne.
Jay Glazer of FOX reports that Ryan signed a two-year extension as coach of the Jets. As the “Mangenius” could tell you, it’s not a bad idea to strike while the iron is hot in New York and tack on guaranteed years following a surprising playoff appearance.
The numbers for the deal are not expected to be high considering how many years are left on Ryan’s original contract.
Ryan’s bluster and promotional skills sometimes overshadows his coaching ability, but there’s no doubt Ryan brings a unique defensive advantage to the Jets.
No one was talking about Darrelle Revis as the best cornerback in the league a year ago, and that’s partly because Ryan’s pass rush makes Revis look so good.
