Last year, the Vikings made a run at receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh in free agency. When they didn’t get him, they addressed their needs by taking receiver Percy Harvin in the first round of the draft.
This year, the Vikings attempted to fill the void created by the departure of running back Chester Taylor by signing LaDainian Tomlinson. When L.T. picked the Jets, the Vikings again had to resort to the draft to address their needs.
They did it by picking Stanford’s Toby Gerhart in round two. As of this morning, he was the team’s last unsigned rookie. Now, Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that Gerhart has agreed to terms.
Gerhart figures to get plenty of opportunities as a rookie, either while giving Adrian Peterson a break or after Peterson puts the pill on the carpet four or five times in a given game.
